Hello Everyone!

I need your input on possibly purchasing a Tiffany & Co. Jean Schlumberger 16 stone ring.

I have admired this ring ever since it debuted and was advertised amongst Tiffany's " Celebration Rings"

I'm just wondering if it's actually comfortable to wear.....
I've heard some mention on PS that regular eternity rings can be uncomfortable, and this particular ring is a much bulkier eternity style.
I read one reivew of it claiming that it was like wearing a ring of thorns- ouchhh and no thank you!

It is a very beautiful ring though, so I'm wondering if anyone owns one or has in the past and what your experience/thoughts might be.

Thanks very much!

Is there a Tiffany store nearby so you can try one? I found it too bulky/prickly between the fingers but eternities aren't comfy for me in general. That's such a classic design, good luck with the hunt!

I was able to try one on in NYC, but it is hard to tell from just briefly trying it on. To really know I feel like I'd have to wear it for a few days.

Totally agree. How abut getting a costume replica to wear for a few days? It won't be as heavy but would give an idea...

I have one and I love it and think it’s super comfortable - not prickly at all. I agree that it’s bulkier but you get used to it and the prongs/metalwork are not sharp. Do you have other eternities (if so, do they bother you between the fingers)?
I would advise trying it on a few more times to see how you feel and what your initial reaction is about the comfort.
Bottom one is mine and I was trying on the ruby one for fun!

So glad you started this thread because I have been thinking about the same ring as a 20th anniversary gift. For those that own it, how do you think it runs (sizing)? I’m usually a 6 but don’t want it to be tight. But a 6.5 seems fall off loose to me. Tiffany says available only in half sizes, yet some resell sites show 6.25 (and I didn’t think it was possible to resize). Sorry to jump in on your post but I’d love to learn as much as I can before making such a large purchase.

I’ve heard TIffany sizing runs a little small, but I’m not sure how true that is.

No worries at all! The more info., the better, especially for a large purchase! When I tried one on in NYC this past Spring, I feel like I sized as a 6.25 and that Tiffany's had that size in-store for me to try (so I think that is a real size.... ??) **I need to find the card the Tiffany's sales rep. gave to me, so that I would have my sizing info.** I also believe it is correct that you CANNOT size this ring, it has to be ordered-to-size.

Yours is beautiful! My dilemma is that I don't own any eternity rings, so I'm not sure if one would bother me. I do have sensitive skin though... I am glad to hear that the prongs/metalwork are smooth on the design, for prolonged wear. Maybe this could work out for me....

The ring only comes in half sizes, not quarter sizes. It also CANNOT be sized but I have heard of Tiffs resetting into a larger size but also for a ridiculous price so I would be cautious to not get something that fits too tight. The good thing is, even if it's slightly larger, it looks great even when it spins since it's an eternity band.

lol I REALLY have to find the card that the Tiffs sales lady gave me! I'm really curious about this sizing now...

and, I also think I now have an even bigger dilemma- which one to pick!!!
I'm really liking the color combos, but then again I initially was really leaning towards rose gold and simple, white diamonds..... If anyone has photos of theirs, keep 'em coming! haha

Thanks all!!!

Hey Everyone, so I've recently read some pretty discouraging things about the quality of Tiffany's.
Some owners of Tiffany's rings have said that the metal doesn't hold up as well as rings they purchased from other jewelers and also that diamonds have come loose and fallen out of their Tiffany's bands. They noted that repairs to these things that seem to be defects were also very costly at Tiffany's and the customer service was not what you'd expect.

I was surprised to hear this and wanted to ask PSers to see if you had similar experiences with your Tiffany's pieces? Specifically any Tiffany's bands- have you noticed the integrity of the metal becoming faulty over time? Have you had to have it repaired? Have diamonds in the setting risen or fallen out? These are the types of complaints I've been reading.

Some women have reported that their engagement ring was from another jeweler and their wedding band was from Tiffany's, they wear both rings together daily, and while their engagement ring is still in very good condition, their Tiffany's band just has not held up.

I'm interested in the 16 stone band, but after these reports, I'm not sure I want to purchase something that could be problematic later on....

Thanks for any input! : )

I have a platinum three stone ring from Tiffany’s, lots of milgrain, bezel set main stones (1ctw I think?) and channel set with shared prongs for the rest of the tiny stones. I’ve had it 13 years. Knock on wood, I’ve never had any issues and I have not been easy on it. Some of the milgrain has worn down, but it’s not noticeable unless you’re an inch away from it and you knew that it used to have more milgrain. I’ve knocked it against crap on accident so many times and it’s still super solid. That being said, when you buy from Tiffany’s you’re paying a premium for the name. That was important to me as a 22 year old, and I love my ring so I wouldn’t necessarily make a different choice, but now I think it’s silly to pay so much when there are better diamonds and amazing jewelers out there and you’ll pay SO much less for the same thing. Most people won’t know it’s from Tiffany’s unless you tell them, which would come across as so snobby to me. Unless someone asks, I don’t tell them where it’s from. And people don’t usually ask, they just say how pretty and unique it is. Most assume it’s an antique ring.

Thank you for the feedback! Your ring is lovely and it certainly does have an antique look to it!
I actually have never seen anything like it at Tiffany's! The Tiffany ring I'm consdering is a modern style, but I absolutely LOVE antique stones and settings. I feel like platinum is durable, but I'm considering gold in the modern Tiffany's ring. I know gold is softer, and that paired with the negative reviews just has me concerned.

Hi Emerald Empress!
I'm so surprised that people have found that Tiffany quality not up to snuff.. I have a few pieces and I think they are all incredibly well made and wear beautifully.
I have two 16 stone bands and they are heavy weight and great quality.
Yes.. a tad prickly but pretty comfortable wearing just one.
When the two are stacked.. not so comfy but a nice eyeful.=)2
Good luck with your decision!

Thank you for the feedback! How long have you had yours? Do you wear them often? Have you had to have them serviced by Tiffany's? They look to be in very good condition.

Hi!
I got them a few years ago second hand.
I don't wear them a lot as I have been on a white gold streak for a while now.
One of them was half a size too large so I had Tiffany put balls in it for me.
They did a great job for around $50.
The stones are really beautiful.. especially in the light.
I'm a sucker for Schlumberger pieces.. they are really so special.

The stones do look beautiful, and what you'd expect from Tiffany's. Yours would be especially fun to wear around the holidays : ) It has such a warm and happy quality to it, like sparkling holly berries.

I love the look of this ring, and think I could get used to any slight discomfort in wearing it at first, it's just the reviews I've read from ppl (not on PS) who wear it very often who said it didn't hold up well....
There also seemed to be a trend of more recently manufactured Tiffany's products having defects and not being as well made as older pieces. If that's really true that makes me very sad. I don't have any Tiffany's pieces in gold at this point, but really had my heart set on changing that this Christmas.

I love that.. "a warm and happy quality.." so nice.
I hope that Tiffany keeps up their lovely first rate quality.. what a shame it would be if they didn't.
I wish you luck, smiles and lotsa fun finding your new piece.:kiss2:

I bought both rings on Ebay. Both sellers were from the USA.. can't remember who they were.
A good thing is that this particular ring is rarely faked. You have to study the way it's marked inside though very carefully and see that it looks correct.
Also.. only buy from sellers with a return policy and who have 100% feedback.
I have been studying (and buying and selling) signed pieces for many years now so I can usually tell a fake right away.
If you have any doubt after if comes return it right away.
Pieces that are faked all the time (like a VCA Alhambra bracelets) I never buy second hand.
Hope that helps!:read:

I’ve been wearing mine for almost 4 years and have never had any issues! I would hope that the Tiff quality of current production is not going down. If you’re comfortable with preloved it would also save you several thousands of dollars over retail.

When I read things like this I always wonder what sort of regular care people are giving their rings. A lot of people just put rings on and wear them and never think if they are wearing them in damaging ways or situations they shouldn't be, and never go to get prongs checked/tightened, etc. Any prongs can loosen over time and have stones fall out, so you should get them checked yearly for rings you wear every day. Because of the way the particular band you are interested in is made, I could imagine the prongs catching on things and loosening and people not knowing that was a thing they needed to watch out for - but that's inherent to the design, not the manufacturing quality. Even the best quality ring of that design could have that problem.

I don't have anything by Tiffany but my SIL has one of the pave wedding bands in rose gold - the really skinny one, the metro maybe? Bought I believe 4ish years ago. It's fantastically made and has held up extremely well even though it's a dainty full eternity and she wears it every single day. She does take it off for things like gardening, exercise, swimming, and I clean it, examine it under a loupe, and check the prongs myself several times a year so I can tell her if she needs to take it in (not something she'd think of doing on her own because she's not really a jewelry person).

You make some very good points about taking proper care of your jewelry- to include knowing to remove jewelry in certain conditions like gardening, cleaning, swimming, etc.

I am pretty good about taking my pieces in for regular checks and cleanings too, as prongs can certainly wear down on pieces worn daily.

This band is something I'd want to wear often, perhaps even daily.

The stories I've heard about it not wearing as well as expected concern me. Hearing from PSers who have this band (and know how to care for it) are making me feel a bit better about it.

Hoping I could bother you for your expertise? I'm looking at purchasing one seconhand for my wife as I cant quite meet the 10k price tag. I've found several on ebay and I'm not sure they are authentic at all.

The first one, the placement of the "Tiffany & Co" on the inside of the ring covers 1.5 stones, the placement doesnt seem consistent with what ive seen described as authentic. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tiffany-Co...443169?hash=item5b71edf161:g:~nMAAOSwf71dEldF

The second one I cant get a good look at that placement but the banner that the "Tiffany & Co" is lasered on seems too wide? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tiffany-Co...443169?hash=item5b71edf161:g:~nMAAOSwf71dEldF

This one seems closer but the pics are bad :/

Hello!
Happy to help if I can. No bother at all. :D
I have found with rings that have been made over a long period of time like these Schlumberger rings is that they are signed in various ways. A ring made in 1980 might have a different hallmark than a ring made in 2000. I have two ruby ones that I'm pretty sure are signed differently. I can take pix of the way they are signed this weekend and I'm happy to post it for you.
The seller of the Ebay one has all good feedback. That is a good sign.
I'm not sure how Bonanza works.. whether they rate sellers or not.
Also.. try and make an offer for lower than what they are asking.
I think $7000 is a bit high for this ring second hand.
Here is what recent ones sold for.

Thanks for the idea on making a lower offer and seeing what they accept. I just dont have enough experience to tell which of these might be fake or not. I've been researching for days and its just driving me nuts! If you think one of the two ebay ones is authentic I'll likely send over an offer
