It's very satisfying ordering online especially at a discount (and using Rakuten to get cash back too) and getting it within a day or two. And the anticipation is exciting too I agree. Definitely easier than going to the store. Though occasionally I like shopping in person to feel and touch and try on what I am interested in...case in point I just bought a faux fur blue short jacket and without seeing it and trying it on in the store I wouldn't know I love it. I didn't even know I wanted something like this. Aka impulse purchase on my part. But it's so soft and fun and easy to wear. Not warm however. LOL.

My impulsiveness is directly related to my anxiety / PTSD (medication has helped immensely) and my Aspergers trait of intense focus on “things”. Since toddlerhood I have like to create collections of things and have an in-depth and intense appreciation of them. I have collected everything, as a child, from coloured foil chocolate wrappers to butterfly and moths (already deceased) and pieces of metal found on the footpath / roadway to adulthood where my collections include obviously jewellery and watches, timber boxes, porcelain, musical instruments, netsukes, Lalique etc.
I have a lot of stuff.
I’m not a hoarder as such, I don't have trouble divesting myself of items, to me it is definately all about the investigation and pursuit.
I believe I was always “anxious” or unsettled within myself. My brain seems to go at a million miles an hour sometimes, so intense focus brings me calm and buying “stuff” helps at the time. However I have little interest in most items after the “pursuit and capture”. Recognizing this means I now buy less meaningless stuff. I still enjoy my special items and still enjoy pursuing and investigation but I don’t need to have it all delivered to my house,
its good you recognize this
i have disgraphya and i definatly obsess about certain things and the collections that go with them
right now i have an awful lot of Carltonwear and nowhere to display them that i brought as one of my impulse obsessions
im thinking about selling some of it

i try really hard to only have things that are either beautiful or serve a purpose

I made a LOT of huge big ticket impulse purchases this year, and I’ve personally banned myself from buying anything else this year....I sold some stocks in the summer so that I could remodel and repaint my house. Instead of the remodel, I ended up spending the money on a used baby grand piano, a new patio set and and BBQ grill, a Hawaiian vacation and down payment on a new car. I have been really bad...and no remodeling took place st all!

I think emotional impulse purchases for me tend to be comfort food - like ice cream :lickout: whereas non-emotional impulse purchases are usually makeup or skincare - I am a total sucker for Priceline or Mecca Maxima, Sephora etc; although I have really focused lately on shop my stash" so I don't buy any more & use up what I have. :shifty:

I never heard of disgraphya...could you tell me about it?

I love that you buy things that are beautiful or serve a purpose.

Oh I love that you bought a baby grand piano. I am guessing you play the piano...does anyone else in your family play the piano too? What pieces do you enjoy playing?

And I think you spent your money very wisely. You can never take away beautiful experiences like a Hawaiian vacation. Maybe remodeling happens next year?

Haha yes perfume is always a sweet buy. And so easy to go overboard. I find myself (well used to not so much these past few months) longing for the next HG perfume and searching for it by purchasing samples. Though I already have a few HG perfumes I still seem to want more.

I definitely do this. Eat sweets when I am longing for comfort and looking for relief from anxiety. Now however I have added salty to my repertoire which is new for me. Not good. I don't need to add more comfort food to the multitude I already enjoy when I am anxious and stressed. :/

I now basically live ontop of a large shopping mall, so I walk through department stores and all the usual beauty/apparel/resteraunt chains whenever I leave the house. It has massively dulled my enthusiasm for shopping, the stuff just looks super ho-hum. But I've made up for it by becoming much more enthused for trying all the speciality food stores that open up (even if they are complete gimmicks-- I.e. do I really need 7 different bubble tea shops beneath my house?). Also big on shopping on Korean ebay -- gmarket. Lol I am sure to buy a few useless things there every month. Was in Seoul a month and a half ago and that was a complete disaster too -- I barely fit in the taxi with all the bags I had, so I guess I have an Achilles shopping heel!

I would love to be so close to a large shopping mall. When I was growing up we were within half a mile or so of a large mall and I would go there often just to browse and enjoy a few hours shopping. I wish it dulled my enthusiasm. I definitely spent too much money then and still do. I think I never tire of certain things even if in front of my face much of the time. For example if I worked in a candy store I would be in BIG trouble. I would never tire of eating the sweets. I wish.

Interesting @Bron357. Like you my brain goes a million miles a minute at times and my DH thinks I have attention deficit disorder which is relatively new for me as I was never like this until I started going on the internet (2006). Before that I had a good attention span. Unlike you I don't just enjoy the "pursuit and capture" but enjoy owning the items/pieces as well. I would love to reach the point where I don't feel the desire to keep buying new stuff. I just love getting packages delivered. It's like Christmas morning almost every day here. LOL. Our Amazon purchases for example have reached a record high this year. #funny/notfunny

Last night picked up the boots today since they were sold out online. Can't wait for the sweaters!

Ooh so exciting! Please share here when it arrives. Cannot wait to see what you got. :appl:
Just last week I made another impulse purchase of another pair of the 50/50 boot from SW. Like I needed another pair. But oh they are so new and shiny and pretty.

HI:

Honestly, I don't impulse shop anymore. So much jewellery and $$ clothing was purchased in past that way, and I've put that behavior behind me. My DH definitely impulse shops--especially with electronics and bike stuff.

cheers--Sharon

I want to get to the point where you are Sharon. As for our DHs mine is similar to yours that way. I think Greg enjoys shopping almost as much as I do and most of his "toys" are more expensive than mine. Electronics check. Bike stuff check. Tools and woodworking supplies check. For me it's bling, boots and clothes (cycling clothes included). We are a good pair. LOL.

Sometimes. I really try not to because our budget can't take many impulse purchases. For me when I do, its usually a cheap snack because I've gone to the grocery store starving lmao. This week's impulse buy was golden oreos lol.
My husband is worse. He's like oh this looks good. I want that. And this. And that. And this too. And I'm like *facepalm* This is why I go to shop alone and he doesn't come with me very often.

It's amazing you have such self control @MeowMeow! Nice going. :appl:
As for your dh well I hear you. I used to tell my dh if he wasn't so easy going and calm and generous about spending etc I would be less frugal. But those days are behind me haha.

Yep. I go in phases and it usually always coincides with season changes or times of stress. This fall I focused on the house, redecorating and replacing appliances. I also tend to de-clutter during these times, cleaning closets, the garage and basement.

That is all very commendable and productive. I wish stress would motivate me to declutter. That would be awesome. If you have any extra energy please come here and help me. :appl:

Haha oh believe me. I think I would be much worse about it if my life prior to getting married hadn't been such a cautionary tale. My dad was career enlisted military and as such didn't have a ton of money. But you wouldn't know it from the way my mom shopped. She impulse purchased with the best of them. But I didn't know really what was happening until she sat me down when I was a freshman and told me my dad was declaring bankruptcy and all we could keep was the car. So I spent grades 9 through 11 homeless living in shelters, our car, and family's houses until my mom finally moved in with my dad in his tiny little camper trailer that you put in campgrounds. We ended up on base housing for awhile in the middle of grade 12 because of dad's civillian government job but oof. Live through something like that again? Hell no.

So I budget budget budget. And I've married a man who is also military so I have to make his small salary cover the 3 of us. We aren't perfect. Definitely live paycheck to paycheck. But thanks to budgeting and my only impulse purchases being a snack every week nobody is declaring bankruptcy anytime soon lol.

You’re very strong and courageous @MeowMeow. You took adversity and turned it around into something positive. Amazing.

We are products of our experiences. My DH said he was so tired of scrimping and saving and doing without (he put himself through college and graduate schools) when he was a student that he went the other way when he went into the work force. And he spent a lot on trips and stuff. He did without nothing. Which is the opposite of my spending philosophy. I bought my first apt when I was in my twenties and paid off the mortgage (30 year mortgage) in less than 3 years. Doing without the entire tiime. So when we got married we met somewhere in the middle though truth be told I went more his way after some time.

@missy, most people have heard of dyslexia but not dysgraphia. The former refers to difficulties reading, the latter difficulties writing.

According to my app, I've had 158 deliveries this year.... and I don't know whether I feel a little embarrassed or proud. HA!!
Be proud! I think that’s a record! Lol although probably a lot of us have tried to do as well as you : )

I think in the middle is a great place to be. You still get to have the creature comforts while still making sure the important things are taken care of. You sound like you were very smart with your money. Paying off the property and not having a mortgage for very long sounds like something I would do if I was in a place to do it. After the way I grew up having anything more than 2 or 3k in debt is terrifying to me.

But at the same time I think if there's some wiggle room in the budget there is nothing wrong with a treat now and then. Especially if its shiney :D

Oh I love that you bought a baby grand piano. I am guessing you play the piano...does anyone else in your family play the piano too? What pieces do you enjoy playing?

My 17 yo son play the piano really well, and I dabble when I have time (I played from the time I was 6-12). The baby grand I bought also has an auto player, so my husband who spends the most time at home can put in a disc and enjoy some phantom classical piano music by himself. All of the purchase I made with the remodel money was because I wanted my high school senior to really enjoy his last year with us, and around us. Remodel may not happen anymore, since we will have college tuition and living expenses next year!

Haha I would also have been in trouble in the candy store. However I recently discovered that this is one of my rosacea triggers (at least chocolate is a big trigger for me. Suspect some sugar syrups are too but am having more trouble isolating this.). Otherwise chocolate/candy would be one thing which I had no saturation point for.

Same. I have rosacea and my definite known triggers (after many years of trial and error in figuring it out) are dairy (;(), chocolate, peanut butter, tomatoes, and sugar. Though I find if I keep the peanut butter to very small amounts (as in small amounts in non dairy ice cream) occasionally I am OK. But yeah it's hard for this sweet tooth addict. I did break my sweet tooth habit years ago because of rosacea but I won't lie. Every now and then when life gets particularly stressful I lapse a bit.::)

I think that is a great purchase! And smart too. Cannot take back those memories of your HS senior enjoying this year with you guys. And anyway remodels go out of style after a few years anyway. LOL. Enjoy this year with your son!

Dairy and sugar sounds tough. I would miss the simple things like coffee with sugar and milk. I would also miss cheese.

I am still not sure what the full list of triggers are for me, but I know for sure that I can't eat soy sauce, anything alcoholic, or anything containing chilli or chocolate. Sadly I am also reactive to a lot of cosmetics, thermally hot foods/water and sunshine. The last one is probably the sadest of the lot. But it is forcing me to completely change my lifestyle for the better. So there is a silver lining.

It is also is helping curb my shooping habits too :), otherwise I would be in trouble from both the sephora and large Japanese style pharmacies under my house.

I hear you on all of the above. And the sun. I LOVE the sun. But I still enjoy it. My dh and I are always outdoors for many hours in the nice weather. I just make sure I am wearing sun protective clothing and/or sunscreen (I can only tolerate zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide everything else causes a huge hive filled rash) and/or a parasol. Depending on the activity. So you can still enjoy the sun with adaptation.

I wear basically no makeup (but that is my choice and not because I cannot) but if I am going somewhere special I can wear Dermablend creme and most mascaras (I like Maybelline) and lip gloss. Just find makeup with minimal ingredients that you don't react to and hopefully you can find something that works for you. It is trial and error and I always recommend trying only one (or max of 2) new things at a time to see how your skin reacts.

And one silver lining as you mention is a healthier lifestyle. I definitely attribute my more youthful appearance to protecting myself from the sun and not drinking or smoking and exercising and eating (most of the time) healthfully. Though I do occasionally eat stuff I should not especially when I am stressed (as in the past 4 months sigh) but perfect is the enemy of good enough.

Good luck and hang in there and if I can be of any help please do not hesitate to ask. I sort of feel like a rosacea expert though I am not. I have had it for decades and learned a lot while dealing with it at its worst.
