Hello,

Do you think that a jeweler would be willing to take the stones of my eternity band as a trade in value towards buying slightly bigger stones and setting them in an eternity band? I haven't asked any jewelers but I may look around if it seems like a possibility. for me the quality of my band is very high I just feel frustration of wanting it to be bigger. It would then be that I have 16 (.20) round brilliant stones F-G color, VS clarity.

I don't think the jeweler I worked with would do it, as its a custom piece and I read the policies on his website. though the best way to know would be to ask, BUT there was honestly a lot of back and forth on my sizing issues and I think he felt kind of done, and working out of state is hard! I don't think he'd be willing. but who knows.

Thanks

If it’s a common sized band, I think you would get much more selling it second hand than trading in your diamonds to with the jeweler. Either way, it’s probably going to be far less than you originally paid.

Where would be a place to try to sell it? Thank you!

I think I’m just going too far and probably should be happy with it and move on!

Diamondbistro and loupetroup then add a thread to the pre-loved forum with links to where you have your ring listed.

Loupetroop or DiamondBistro are a good place to start. You can always post it for a price you would be okay parting with it for, and if it doesn’t sell, just try to enjoy it for what it is.

I am sorry that you are parting with your eternity. I haven’t followed your threads, but wanted to chime in to echo others about sites to list it for sale.

Diamond shrinkage syndrome (DSS) is what we affectionately call it here, where you feel like you could have gone bigger after the initial purchase and feel of the stone and ring.

Sadly, our head has a way of working, and sometimes it eats away at you.

Do you wear this ring with another?

I am not sure how long since you had the ring made; but, have the honest conversation with your jeweler and see what s/he says? Now that you have the ring- you would prefer to have larger stones and how would they approach it?

As others have stated- if jeweler is happy to trade it in, it will be at a lower rate for it and be prepared for it. Listing it on the sites also means that you will not get retail value, either. So you are going to take a hit irrespective of where you list it.

Having said all of that fiancial stuff- the most important thing is that you are happy with the ring to enjoy wearing it.

Could you be happy with the current ring as is? If not, the financial loss that comes with the trade- think of it as an education for what you like. We all have been down this road and yes, it is disappointing that it isn’t what you had anticipated....and that is ok to feel cos that is exactly what it is. Use it as your knowledge growth in appreciation of your bling.. and yes- it is so bloody worth it- cos you get what your heart/ head truly desires.

Hope you have some luck with jeweler to come to some sort of arrangement. Otherwise, the choice is yours- accept the ring as is or list it and make the ring of your dream, after saving up more money to make it happen.

In preparation for the new ring, and you probably have already have done it - make a list of what you like and don’t like about your current ring you liked and disliked. Take pictures of it so that the (new) jeweler knows exactly how it is that you want it, and do not waver... of course come back here for us to help you scrutinise, if you so choose.

Have some fun with it- cos it’s lux and it should be enjoyable.
