Ugh, two of my babies are sick (first picture, Brodie and Rhonda). Rhonda picked up a respiratory infection from the groomer - she cannot be vaccinated because she has autoimmune meningitis (GME). At first I felt really guilty, because I figured it was kennel cough, and I shouldn't have taken her there, but the vet said it was a different type of respiratory infection anyway. She has such horrible allergies, that I have to keep her hair short or she scratches herself bloody and raw. I don't take her often, but the few times a year she needs to go, she REALLY NEEDS help from the groomer. 6 days later and now Brodie has it also......coughing and hacking all over. Little (black and tan) Nikki is holding strong, knock on wood.

Both sick dogs are on antibiotics, but this is the first time I've had to put Rhonda on something since she's been on her immuno-suppressive drugs. I'm terrified that she won't be able to fight it off, so my anxiety levels are WAY HIGH right now. She was diagnosed in February of 2017, and i've been able to keep her mostly healthy since then, with only one relapse since being diagnosed. Now I'm worried.....and struggling not to panic and freak out about everything. If anyone has a prayer to spare, please send one our way.....it is SO not fun in this house right now.

Little did I know when I posted that picture, that 2 days later my beautiful little girl would be gone. :(2

I wish I could come give you a hug in person. The loss of a pet is devastating - sending prayers your way @Austina :((

This is George, the tuxedo and little Leisel. He's a good brother to her. She's getting spayed next month. I have held off until close to 4 pounds because she's sensitive to vaccines and gets sick easily. Leisel is a foster fail.

Congrats on adopting Leisel!:appl:George and Leisel are both gorgeous. We have a George too. My parents recently rescued him. He is a love and a rascal.

Meet my brother George.

I am so sorry @violet3 and sending lots of healing dust their way. In fact, bucketloads of healing dust being sent to both dogs. ****DUST**** Hoping for a complete recovery. (((Hugs))).

@violet3 I'm SOOO sorry to hear about your sick babies!! In the future, maybe you can try a mobile groomer? Many of us disinfect our vehicles between appointments and there is no exposure to other sick pets. I belong to a grooming board and can try to help you find one, if you like.

@Austina I'm sorry for your loss....

Thank you Missy! We're working on it! Just really hoping that Nikki does get this disgusting hack. The others are on a fairly strong antibiotic, and Rhonda is doing much better! I just get a little panicky when she gets sick - some kind of PTSD from when she was paralyzed I think.

Thank you! What a wonderful idea! My groomer, unfortunately, is how I got Rhonda in the first place - she had rescued and homed her. They are very attached, and Rhonda is very scared of everyone, so I don't want to change that part. Our groomer has agreed to see her after everyone else has gone home for the day - do you think that is a good solution?

I understand that connection perfectly, I have pets that I have rehomed also and the new guardians stay with me as well. I think it could be a good solution violet. Bear in mind that the germs from all the other dogs that have been there are still in the crates, in the bathtub, on the tables, on the tools, etc. until things are sanitized. This is one of the reasons current vaccinations are required by most reputable grooming salons. While it is impossible to stay on top of who is/might be sick when you see 20+ myriad dogs a day, vaccination documentation helps, but the need for sanitation is multiplied too. Personally I use a hospital grade disinfectant on everything except shears after every pet visit, it's a simple yet effective solution that kills 99.9% of germs including parvo, MRSA, and canine influenza viruses. If she could spray down the relevant areas with something like this BEFORE Rhonda arrives, you can cut down the chances of her picking up anything further since airborne contaminants won't be present from other dogs, and anything on surfaces will be killed.

This is the one I use. It's very cost-effective as one gallon of concentrate makes 256 gallons of spray. The only draw back is that it smells strong until it dries, so it would be good to use it before Rhonda arrives. I hope this helps and please, feel free to ask any other questions you may have.

Thank you for this thoughtful response! I'll pass this on to her - Rhonda doesn't go often at all because this all is my concern. She does require vaccinations on the other dogs, but the vet said this one wouldn't have been related to not having the bordatella vaccine. She's just so fragile, that I worry all of the time. It's nice to have a groomer friend on here!!! I would love your job. Do you love it?

Yes @violet3 I LOVE it!! I was a paralegal/office manager for law firms for nearly 30 years and finally tired of attorneys...and decided to follow my heart and work with animals. Now, I'm happy to go to work every day and love to see my happy pet clients.

I wrote out my story earlier in the year, you can read it here: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/small-businesses—your-experiences.246026/

Not my fur baby but my friend's fur baby K and we met with them yesterday. K was hit by a car in late May and went through (and is still going through) rehab. He almost died. Look at him now. He is doing great!:appl:

Eating a cone yesterday while we enjoyed our ice cream.

and enjoying some cool water too.

He is a good boy and what a comeback story. He literally almost died and they were told to put him down but instead his mommy and daddy didn't give up and did everything they could do to get him to this point. The doctors all thought he would be paralyzed but he is walking on his own now with a slight limp and he keeps improving every day!!!

@violet3 how are your sweet babies doing? Keeping good thoughts for them an hoping each day they get better. (((Hugs))).

OMG, look at that sweet baby! What a miracle for his parents and for him! He looks a little like my Rhonda - is he a husky mix? Thank you for asking about the pups - they are doing better! The coughing has stopped for Brodie, and is getting better for Rhonda after 7 days on an antibiotic. I'm hopeful that she is going to make a full (well Rhonda full) recovery!

@Austina my heart aches for you. Last week we had some really odd moments with our dog. Not eating, throwing up listless, diarrhea, and its truly scary especially when even the vet has no clue. She is on the mend but I have a bunch of new grey hairs.

had very happy cats her tonight because they had chicken for tea
but its getting quite late and dark and i went out to water the garden and no Borris
and most of the day she has been snoozing on her old chair at the back door
anyway i just went out to the wash house to dump the dirty tea towels into the washing machine and Borris was curled up on Grandad's old army blanket we use for moving
i just picked her up and she smells like roast chicken
i forgot when i dished her's up i spooned some juice over it but her head was in the way at the time

Little Oliver is getting so tall. He is only 6lbs but he is tall and growing each day.

He is stained yellow from Lime Sulfur weekly dips. He will eventually go back to his normal hair color. I think.

last week i sowed a tray of Californian poppies
its so warm right now i just left the tray on the lawn
the next day i saw 3 little cat foot prints in the seed raising mix and with love in my heart i thought that was sooooo cute
yesterday i noticed the seeds are up and someone .... had used the seed tray for a cat toilet (phew lucky just a number one)- but how can i complain because it looks like a perfect little outside dirt box with actual real dirt in it
i piled all the mix back in and will hope for the best
have moved the tray though to a less convineant place for Borris
