I’m getting ready for a trip back home to China and can’t decide what bling to bring with me :/

How do you guys decide what to take with you when you’re away from home?

It depends where I'm going (ie how safe I feel in the new city). When I went to Mexico, I wore sterling silver studs and a 10k gold band; when I go on business trips I wear the jewelry I wear daily; when I go to my dad's house for the holidays I take all of it (which is really only two or three pieces more than I normally wear).

I just got off a cruise and I brought nothing real and happened to accidentally leave all my fakes at home. :eek2:

I bring what I can and will wear and nothing extra generally. It's so much easier that way and as long as you have beautiful bling to wear you can get by without the usual variety of pieces. Safer and easier on all counts. Enjoy your trip.

ETA: I bring my real bling. Life is short. I am going to wear my favorite diamonds and pieces. Eat the cake, wear the bling. And enjoy.

My wedding set is always on, as are my studs & pendant. They go everywhere except for our main summer holiday, as it's too hot & sun lotion-y for diamonds.

Other trips I will take a RHR & would always usually reach for my unheated hot pink sapphire, but since my 10th Anniversary I have worn my skinny 18ct plain Lucida band pretty much 24/7 on there, so my other things are a bit neglected. I find the Lucida really comfy & elegant all by itself.

No. Well, with the (recent) exception of going to the local vet with all 4 cats every week for L-S dips. I haven't been wearing it for that but I am enjoying the AVC moissy I just got and that is perfect for such occasions. Not too big not too small. Just right. I suspect when I reset Bubbalah in a solitaire I will wear her even to the vet. But for now I am enjoying mixing it up just a bit.

I’m going to Beijing to see family so nothing unsafe. There’s a huge range there in terms of bling that you come across, even in my own family! Hence the decision paralysis lol.

@MakingTheGrade do you have go to bling that you feel most comfortable in?

Not really. I tend to wear my paw pendant with my memorial bead of my last dog Beau. And usually I wear my diamond bracelet “stack” of my slide charm and aca bangle but I was thinking of just wearing my jadeite bangle to China since I don’t wear it much here and it’s more typical to see in China.

In terms of rings I have 2 stable thumb rings and everything else gets rotated around! I have rings for when I want to be blingy and rings for when I want to be discrete. I don’t want to bring too many rings though and it’s hard to pick which ones to take. It’s like choosing favorite children!

Haha. Just like actual kids, your favorite is probably the one you spent the most money on.
(Generic “your”, not just poking @Wewechew )
You are not wrong. My favorite “child” (aka dog) has to go into the vet every 3 months. He is so high maintenance. My husband gets after me for having a favorite at all

Yeah. I only have one pupper so she’s my favorite. If I could bring her I’d happily leave all the bling at home!

Being without at least one favorite ring on my hand would affect my enjoyment of the travel/vacation because I'd miss the sparkle too much! So I'm with @missy - I always bring what I love regardless of destination, and that usually means my biggest diamond e-ring. (I'll leave my other rings at home) I never got into the travel ring concept because my mind can't be fully satisfied unless I'm wearing what I know to be genuine. If I'm passing through somewhere sketchy or if I don't want to draw attention to myself, I just turn the ring so the diamond isn't visible. I've never had a problem, whether in Europe or Asia.

I bring earrings, a bracelet, a wedding band and e-ring type ring and a pendant. I wear it on the plane/trip and I don’t bring any extra bling. Too much to think about so I bring whatever I am wearing and that’s it.

I bring only what I wear. It makes life so easy. I sometimes change it up a bit and bring something that I don't always wear at home.

Depends on where we are going.

Just wore a plain 18KY band to Antarctica because I knew that I would be getting in and out of zodiacs to go ashore.

Alaska, would wear what I normally wear.
Pear or CBI ering, RHR was HPD Trilogie or Queen Pari, one or two tennis bracelets and a pendant.

Norway, I read that they are not into big diamonds so I wore my Tiffany Fancy Yellow, my HPD Fancy Intense yellow tennis bracelet and pendant.

Mexico/Caribbean, I leave my jewelry on the cruise ship.

When I go on vacation they're usually ridiculously active, I take the cheapest stuff that I don't have to worry about. When its a work trip I dress it up a bit more. Visiting the folks? about the same as a work trip. In general though work and visiting family means I'm in a hotel so, again, I keep it classy but aside from my earrings which I always wear, leave the more expensive stuff at home.

for a trip with lots of activity: stuff i'm not afraid to lose

for a trip to see family, for work, etc: stuff i'm ok with wearing 24/7

i've been known to forget things in hotel rooms, rental cars, etc. so i just try to minimize how many items i have to keep track of :) i assume you're more organized so 2 options for each thing you typically wear could be nice. have a great trip!

my latest travel ring - bronze & silver rose (one of my DIYs ;-) )

Hahaha yep this 100%. I tend not to take anything crazy valuable, especially if it's a "outdoorsy" sort of trip but otherwise I just plan stuff to match outfits. I try to also think of taking bling that will work in many ways - like pearl studs or pearl strand - can be worn low key or dressed up KWIM?
