I'm going into a Brilliant Earth showroom this week to view this 2.65 ct LB diamond.

https://www.brilliantearth.com/lab-...//www.brilliantearth.com/lab-diamonds-search/

In terms of specs on a paper, everything checks out to my liking. HCA score is a 1.4 as well.

My worry is that, in looking at the 360 image, I feel like I see black dots or black inclusions. Are my eyes playing tricks on me? Will this most likely not be able to be seen via naked eye since this stone is listed as VS1? Granted it's IGI rated so might not be truly VS1.

Specs: 2.65 ct, 56.5 TA, 61.1 Depth, 34.5 CA, 40.9 PA

you won't see any of these things in real life. These pics are hugely magnified, so it will definitely be eye clean.
Thanks for putting me at ease. I'm going to go in and see it in person regardless before I make any decisions. I just hate that they are black inclusions. Wish they were white.

Totally understand, but I am almost positive you won't see them in person unless your vision is super crazy.

Agree with lovedogs that you won’t be able to see those inclusions with the naked eye.

In terms of scintillation, my understanding is, the scintillation outcome is based off of the way the crown and pavilion angles play together and Brightness along with Fire level is based off the respective crown and pavilion angles individually?

Scintillation is not something I can explain well  but I believe it is correct to say that crown and pavilion angles that work well together will create lots of white light and coloured fire coming back out of the crown towards the viewer, the proportions of which will depend on crown height and table size, whereby higher/smaller usually means more coloured fire because the star facets and upper girdle facets are larger and therefore have more opportunity to split white light that is being returned into its constituent colours through diffraction/dispersion.

IIRC scintillation is how one eye sees a bright facet but the other eye sees a dark facet (where both are looking at the same facet).

Brightness is also a tricky one to explain - you can consider it in terms of overall light return (more light return = brighter) or you can consider it in terms of relative brightness to other facets (so one bright facet amongst many dark facets will mean that facet looks brighter than if all the facets were equally lit).

Have a look at the Cutwise platform, run by Serg on here - some serious science to make your brain hurt IIRC (the site doesn't work for me on this computer but I'm sure it has science stuff on there). Garry H (Cut Nut) has also previously posted a link to an article that he and Serg have published, which covers most of it, but I'm not sure where it is on the forum and I have to go to bed now... lol

You can see the sort of thing Serg does in this thread:

What did you end up with? I'm looking at diamonds in the same range on BE.

I am also looking at BE lab diamonds. If you want to see a specific diamond, can you just request it by calling them?? I’ve been thinking of going to the Boston showroom but didn’t know you could request to see specific diamonds.

I believe that you can (or at least should try to!) call ahead to make an appointment and request specific stones you are interested in, but I may be wrong...

If you do it, let us know how it goes! :)

You do have to request the specific stone(s) you want to see. However, it is a request only.

I have one on hold and viewing it this Wednesday. If all goes well, I'll purchase.

So I bought a diamond!

Went with a 2.60 ct, F color, VS1 clarity from Brilliant Earth. Saw it in person and it sparkled beautifully. I'm happy with it. I was driving myself crazy with the small nuances of the specs and how they play with each other (i.e. Crown angle vs Pav angle, etc.) and found myself driving myself nuts. I kept telling myself after have had seen many times on Pricescope..."Are you buying the diamond or are you buying the paper with the specs?". Seeing it in person settled it for me.

Some more about the diamond:
Table - 57%
Depth - 61.6%
Crown Angle - 34.5 deg
Pavilion Angle - 40.8 deg

I plan to do a simple thin band 4 or 6 prong rose gold setting.

Yay! Congrats! They seem like wonderful specs to me :) so glad you loved it.
I think we all go through that thinking process.
So excited to see the diamond and the ring!

Sounds beautiful! :kiss2:Are you having BE do the setting or going to someone local?
Someone local. I have a family friend who has done all of my sibling's and a few of my close friends' rings. He of course tried to talk me out of lab grown because it mucks with his business.

Looks like those specs are pretty much bang in the middle of the PS-recommended ranges, so it's no wonder it looks good ;-)

Congratulations, I hope it looks lovely when finished - please do post pictures if you are happy to do so! :))

I’m looking to upgrade my diamond and have been scoping out Brilliant Earth also. They only allow 50 minute appts, in my opinion that’s not long enough. I live 2 hrs away and would have to make a return appt if I wasn’t able to choose my diamond. I’ve been scoping out all of the MMD vendors.

I wouldn’t go to an appointment without a pretty solid idea of what I wanted. Have you asked about requesting specific stones to view? I live a little over 2 hours from LA and I still just ordered mine from their website because I didn’t feel the need to drive when I knew pretty much exactly what I wanted. I was just waiting around for a stone that matched. You have 30 days to return it as well.

I agree with you on knowing what I want. I’m in Bakersfield and I’ve tried on a few diamonds but have not made a final decision on shape or setting yet. I’m thinking of having Erica at Love Affair Diamonds make my ring and even source the stone for me but I still want to check things out.

I would probably go to a normal jewelry store then to try on a bunch of rings and look at diamond shapes. I just don’t think BE’s model is geared toward that type of customer. They mainly want people to purchase online and by only having appointments instead of a showroom, they are keeping overhead lower. Or if you have specific designs you want to try, send them a list ahead of time so they can pull them for you quickly.

Here are some awful pictures I took of the diamond. It was hard to snap a really good Pic and also prob don't really know the most proper way to capture it's beauty. Brilliant Earth packaged it up really nicely. They are not the smoothest to work with. Calling them three or four times to remind them of simple things still doesn't yield any great results. I'm waiting on a refund check because I had a price difference from my returned diamond and it was supposed to come with my diamond...even after several reminders...they didn't include with the shipment. 1C69E1B2-F476-4326-B78C-1DE46816122D.jpeg 722BD890-E10E-4902-B18D-8C848675035F.jpeg 7491FCA3-D98D-47D7-A9FF-C81F57596C0A.jpeg 1C69E1B2-F476-4326-B78C-1DE46816122D.jpeg 722BD890-E10E-4902-B18D-8C848675035F.jpeg 7491FCA3-D98D-47D7-A9FF-C81F57596C0A.jpeg
