@icy_jade any revelations?

I am so excited about this adventure of yours!

Yes for yellow, not for blue. Since I love the yellow at first sight and not for the blue.

A bit hard to give up the blue as the color is ok, size is great and price is ok. But I think it’s too big a purchase for me to have to be convinced to love it.

Ok I asked Wriston to continue looking... :P2

Yellow at local lab for second testing. Fade and unheated etc. GIT is government and university linked and quite reliable according to my jeweller but no questions asked when I asked to send in for testing locally.

I would rather you just took your time and made sure you came to the right decision for yourself, as it is a nontrivial amount of money and therefore something you need to be happy with. I also dont need you to have reached a final decision for me to be able to plan what I would do in either contingency -- if that makes sense?

I am definitely interested so will go see him and hope he still has it =)2, unfortunately my week is now stacked with meetings such that I only have a small window on friday morning free -- will be hoping that does not close up between now and friday. I have a feeling though that it is going to be too big for me.

I have already thought quite a bit about it, and I have an uneasy feeling that it wont suit me as my job and my (husbands) family tend to be more low key (I may not get the most positive responses socially from touting a 6+ ct stone, it sounds silly I know but I dont have anyone supportive of jewelery arround me (other than my closest family members), and most are quite the oposite disposition.).

I wear my baubles and rock them (I think) and don’t really care what others think. Probably a sign of advancing age hahahahah. If you do go lemme know!

oh Congrats Icy!!!! It's a beauty and I could tell you were quite in love with it!

The fact that you keep using "ok, ok" for the blue is telling. At that price just wait!

My totally cheap budget giant jade flower has me swooning so I think you kinda need to swoon if you're going to drop that kind of money. If you're not swooning at that price what's the point?!

This has all been very exciting Icy! Here is the closest to becoming Thanos I have gotten. I am wearing all of them 20190828_090440_HDR.jpg today but the chrysoberyl and sapphire on one hand and spinel and spess on the other. Glad you went with your gut decision! It will be amazing on you.

Yeah was analyzing with a colleague... that fact that:
- I don’t like yellow
- I don’t like emerald cut
- I wasn’t even looking for a yellow sapphire
Yet I still love the yellow... means I must buy...

As for the blue, it’s too much money to settle for “ok”. And I don’t want to buy multiple blues. So the search continues...

I love this! The spinel omg...

Anyone else up for channeling their inner Thanos?

Yes congrats! That is awesome, it looks beautiful on your hand. 100% gorgeous.

Haha yes you sound bad ass, so I can imagine this is true :lol-2:. Would totally agree with marching to the beat of your own drums. But I keep asking for things to get a little easier at the moment, and this would not be a step in the right direction. In a few years though, I think I'll probably look back on this and say 'nah what were you worried about mate?'.

Not if you end up with one over ten carats in the not too remote future.

Cannot afford! Jeweller had a nice vivid blue 12 ct and the price was o_O

Based off your pictures, the yellow one screams "GEM", while the blue one is "hmm, nice color" but not nearly as attention grabbing. It's a nice color, but the cut/inclusion make it lack some of the flash factor.

Yeah. The window n inclusion bugged me. Ultimately it was like it’s ok... but didn’t make my heart flutter. But very ok.

I think I would prefer the step cut halo. The brilliant rounds leave more gaps that are filled in with millgrain, and imo the millgrain looks too busy. The step cuts complement the emerald cut of the yellow sapphire.

I think I need to look around more... maybe the diamond forum? Or is there a thread for CS emeralds? I’ll look at readymade settings as well since I prefer not to custom.

This is a tough one. The yellow just POPS in direct sunlight and bright light. Not so much in more muted light (the inclusions become a bit more visible and the sparkle factor dims a bit). In more muted light, the blue shines, while it doesn't look quite as nice in bright light. Are you looking for an evening ring to wear in dimly lit restaurants and for evening events, or an every day ring that you would wear to work?

But since you are thinking about the yellow and a bit ambivalent about the blue, maybe that speaks volumes about what your heart wants...

Wear to work everyday ring. Both not practical size wise but my colleagues are so used to my bling that one commented that the 2.7ct blue sapphire in this pic is way too small on me.
4911F474-D787-4EB7-B779-248F0D9A43A2.jpeg

Something like “they (the stones) look just right. Not too big at all”. Enabler or what?

How about light blue or pink sidestones? They do not have to be small.

Not my idea - WWW

Thanks but I want an antique style with halo... if I don’t find a suitable readymade setting :P2

Ya stone not small but still looks better with halo imo :P2:P2:P2

Ok something happened today that made me think of what you said and @mellowyellowgirl

Bumped into a colleague at the pantry and the conversation went something like this:
Colleague: so did you get the stones?
Me: not yet but probably the yellow
C: they are very big right?
M: shows this pic

C: oh they are just right. Not big at all.
M: ya!
C: anyway smaller than your ring right? (Points to ring today). Yup so good size.

You totally hit the nail on the head Icy! After you wear a few big boulders around, everything seems small!

15mm....piffle!

Haha I bought a 15mm flower and a friend told me it might be too small. I protested but yes now when I wear it, it is a wee bit on the small side!

Beryllium diffusion is a very common treatment for yellow sapphires, hopefully this lab can test for that.

Should be fine if lab confirms stone is unheated. LIBs tested by GIT lab.

I’m partial to blue sapphires but that yellow is divine. Who cares about rocking a big gem to work?! When I was looking for my sapphire, I told my husband that I have big hands and long fingers so I need something big. He chuckled at that but I wear it every day! You know, that smaller blue sapphire is gorgeous. I’ll bet that baby with a halo would appear plenty big for you? Just a thought - not to confuse you. Just get them all and be done.

Yes you'd look great in it I am sure as it doesnt look out of place at all in the $#%! huge halo you put it in. And I can see how that rationale works, a few mamoth jade pieces and everything will look modest in comparison!

I can't remember where in this thread this information is (forgive my lazyness I now have no time left to search) but you asked me to let you know when I went to see your jeweler. He is lovely. I saw the 6+ ct. but it was really easy to see once I put it on that it was not a good fit (too big, not as blue as I'd like!).

But it was fantastic as I realized while I was looking at it that I could articulate what I wanted (what I liked about it vs. what I wisher to change, which is amazing as going in there I had not been sure at all and this had been making me all kinds of angsty). Asked him to search for a smaller 4-4.5 ct. one for me, so will see what happens! Unfortunately my budget was set on something he said to me about 9 months ago about price per ct. so it totally depends on whether anyhing can still be found that aligns with that pipe dream!

I should feel my heart skip a beat when I see the right blue (that I can afford)... so, not yet.

Did he show you the other blues? He has a few I think.

Great that you have a clearer pic of what you want. Just don’t be too specific hahah. I always find it best to say I wanna see everything lol. 9 months ago? So you should have more funds saved up now? :lol-2:

Yes the little one you had a photo of upthread was quite pretty. Apparently already spoken for though. He also had another 4.2 ct which looked like a perfect size but was more of a midnight blue.

Maybe it would have been better to see everything, it would certainly be fun . But it drives me nuts when someone walks through my office door and I first have to play 20 questions to work out what they actually need. I guess we will see how it goes! Lol no to the last point, we are trying to buy a condo so you can imagine what happened to all the money saved in between.

The little one is available. She looked at it yesterday n wanted darker. It’s tough to figure out what shade works for each of us. But I think Wriston is used to it haha.

I am sure it will find a home quickly anyway, as it was quite sparkly. Since I have finally accepted the idea of someone else searching for me. I suspect I'll actually try to be paitient and sit back and wait (instead of vascilating over all the shinny must have things ).

Yeah at that price point should be fast, especially if he finds a nice setting for it.

Where else have you been looking? I keep browsing all the Japanese sites. It’s an addiction. :oops2: hard to stop since all the so called rare gems are super common on the Japanese sites :P2

There is a nice jeweler inside Far East Plaza called Jewelry Point. They don't stock many sapphires though (infact they seem honestly extremely pleased when I bring my own in to talk to them). The owners are very sweet though, and they make outstanding custom settings.

Other then that I have obviously combed everything on the recommended vendors list and the ones who consistently pop up here as occasionally carrying sapphires but aren't on that list like cvb id, enhoerning, xothebijouxbox, oldsouthjewels but they are all too far away for returns which makes sending a large amount of money to them unconscionable. Obviously though I am keen for more recommendations which come from the local region (as I would love to have more local options as arkieb, chaik and burmesedaze have all indicated are around).

@icy_jade I do not see allot of great Cat's Eye, prices are not low either - on par with the best fancy sapphire. I am not in the market, so not paying a lot of attention to prices lately.

I hope you might mention such stones here, if you see anything!

Chrysoberyls!

I also tried a men’s ring:

I spent some time getting educated on cat’s eye by him a few days ago but have to admit that I still don’t feel the spark from them... anyway then he showed me some of his old (sold) pieces and bemoaned how prices have risen etc so the big ones are no longer affordable...

Thought to share some pretties with you ladies. As you can see he really had some huge ones in the past.

Yeah they don't really do much for me either Icy. They remind me of the cheap marbles my kid has lying around the house.

I'd much rather any of your rings or any of his lovely pink sapphires!

Ooh any progress on deciding how to set your yellow Sapphire?

Unfortunately no... or maybe sort of yes. I actually just paid for the sapphire on Thursday.

But since I’ve sorta been mulling for so long, I’ve been slowly deciding the design that I want in my ring, provided I don’t go the readymade route (slim chance but possible):

Likely to be in ring:
  • Art Deco style
  • Halo
  • In WG with YG cage/cap (?)
  • Milgrain
  • Shoulders
  • Slight sloping profile
Maybe:
  • Airline
  • Engraving
  • Pear diamond accents
I need to sit down and draw some sketches out, but it’s hard to find time...

Or perhaps go the brainless route and adapt from some readymade setting that catches my eye, since the halos/settings I’ve seen are far more creative than what I would have come up with, except that I don’t rem any Art Deco style ones.

In the meantime I’m accumulating inspiration pics in a photo album and browsing whenever it strikes me. :P2
