Found your 2.04 N by pure luck: https://hk.co/SearchDetail/SearchDetails?PacketID=14e3c5e0-0045-4e13-8813-e9dabc1b008b

There is somewhat of a bow tie, but I kind of like it.

Hari Krishna (the cutter) has it listed for 3,380.65. Hopefully your retailer isn't charging more than 25% more than that.

Been looking through the Pricescope diamond search for some other options. https://www.pricescope.com/diamonds...1&pageview=24&adv=false&days=100&cert_number=

Even in the lower colors, brown diamonds aren't as common as yellow onees, but the ones that are brown will have brown listed on the cert like this http://dtol-cert-images.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com/GIA_pdf/2205063598.pdf

USA Certed Diamonds (Martin Sheffield) can serve as a poor man's RapNet because he lists pretty much all of the diamond inventory that's available on RapNet and not subject to retailer restrictions.

4935.00 is what I’m being charged >> I know that’s more than 25% but would you say that would be a “pass it deal” on the HK diamond ? I’ve looked on USA cert diamonds and will continue I guess those “lower color” faint/light browns are elusive .

@jmp46470 there are times where too much knowledge is a curse and this may be one of those times.

So your jeweler wants to sell you this diamond for 4,935, a diamond we know costs 3,380 (or even less if he's able to get a discount from HK). This isn't as much a reflection of the diamond, but rather how much money your jeweler wants to make.

At first glance, 1555 is a lot of money to make off of a single transaction on a diamond, particularly since he'll probably also make some money on the ring setting he sells you.

But let's break it down a little bit. Hari Krishna charges 100 dollars to ship the diamond from India. Your jeweler probably getting the diamond on memo, a form of supplier financing, where he doesn't pay unless the stone sells, but needs to pay a markup on it when sold. Since he's probably not a big customer of Hari Krishna's, let's put that memo fee on the high side and call it 10%, or 338. Then on top of that, he may have had to pay up to 200 dollars shipping the previous stone you considered back and forth from India. So now, that 1,555 in profit turns into 917. Out of this 917, the jeweler needs to pay rent, his staff, insurance, utilities, etc as well as any potential losses from returns and upgrades.

So this is the subjective part. Do you like him enough to pay him almost a thousand dollars for his work and to keep his business running? Maybe, maybe not. The reason I said 25% is because from what I've seen the big guys, Blue Nile and James Allen charge between a 20-30% premium over what their suppliers charge. 25% is 845, which is not very doable for a mom and pop necessarily, but decent money for the big guys (who also don't need to necessarily pay memo fees or shipping charges, and do way more volume).

My personal recommendation? Try to get in touch with Martin Sheffield. He's sometimes hard to get ahold of, but last time I checked he takes the lowest premium of any vendor (about 10%, but that was a few years ago). He might make you pay for the 100 dollars HK charges him to import the stone, and his return policy is only something like 3 days, but he'll get you the diamond (the same diamond others will sell you) cheaper than almost anyone else.

Hi just wondering if a rose gold setting and prongs would make the faint brown more noticeable. It’s a K but I would like the warmth to show:love:. Still waiting for the ring to come in and just wondering what to expect.

Oooohh..Faint brown is my favorite undertone. I have an M faint or light brown...can’t remember which. It’s only .40 and a stacker...I have mine in white gold...and it’s hardly noticeable...
