Before on the left, after on the right. I fashioned a new leg in the middle photo out of polymer clay, glue and paint. My fiance commented that I show so much care and attention to this box!

I was at a vintage and antique store yesterday and saw a jewelry box JUST like this. The shop was asking $400!!! Your box is lovely and such a deal :kiss2:

Holy smokes! I definitely would not pay that much for it! I have seen similar ones on ebay with really nice mosaic tile designs on the lid and even those are usually priced for buyout at 2-300.

That's good to know! I told my DH that the box in the shop seems to be priced higher than others online. He's super sweet and will remember things I've liked and go back and buy them for bday/Xmas gifts - but I didn't want him paying that much!!!

I've been finding lots of sales this weekend.
Here are a few highlights.
A cut crystal De Vilbiss perfume atomizer(missing the bulb) and a very cool set of swords for olives. Marked "Toledo, Spain" IMG_20190713_130709864.jpg
And for a whole $5.00, I got a 10k ring set with 25 really included diamonds.
If you sorta squint at it, the diamonds really sparkle!
It weighs 3.52 grams, so it was a good deal, anyway!

I had to look twice since you changed your avatar @stracci2000

What great stuff, love the olive swords, so unique. I can just picture the perfume bottle on a vanity with a bunch of other pretty containers and such.

Can't complain about 3 1/2 grams of gold for $5, did they not know what they had? Always amazes me to find gold so cheap!

At Cheers a couple of days ago I could have bought a half carat diamond heart solitaire pendant. I was surprised it was so sparkly but alas some chips on one of the upper curves and lets face it, didn't need to spend the money. A deal for someone though, for me $400 for everyone else $600!

No finds for us today, we are going for dinner and then swimming at the cousin's pool! Can't wait! Caught the woodchuck eating off my raspberry bushes this morning little bugger.

Yes, @StephanieLynn , I traveled back to the 1840's and had another portrait painted, after taking a long milk bath:lol:

We impaled olives with the tiny swords today, and it was fun!
And no, nobody knows what they have at a yard sale. Some people think costume jewelry is the good stuff, and other people think that the good stuff is costume!
The ring was filthy and gunky, so it looked pretty bad. But I can spot gold a mile away..........
I must have 30-40 gold or sterling chains that I probably paid .50 or $1.00 for because people don't know to look at the marks.
A diamond heart solitaire! OMG, I would love one of those.
Years ago, I had the John Lennon album Double Fantasy, and Yoko is wearing this big diamond heart solitaire. I've been wanting one ever since. But funds being what they are........

They were obviously doing something right in those times with how their skin looked, maybe the milk baths!

30-40 chains :eek2: Wowee well at least you have one for every possible occasion. I'm pretty sure I have mentioned my SIL (brother's wife) and her love of tag sales, she too found some amazing jewelry once in the form of a solid gold bracelet with all these precious gem encrusted charms and I think she paid $25 for it! The seller obviously had no idea, that bracelet was worth thousands.

You could always get a fakey cz heart pendant, some of them look pretty good, you know just until you save up the funds for the real thing or come across one in a pawn shop somewhere!

I got this cute antique/vintage 14k white gold and tiny diamond (maybe like 0.05ct?) tie pin for $23! I'm a sucker for hexagons :kiss2::lol-2:

20190714_174754.jpg

I'm hoping to take the pin part of and add a small loop through the cut outs to turn it into a charm!

I went to a jewelry show last weekend and two estate sales today. Here are some pieces that stood out to me!
20190714_154221.jpg
Possibly 9 or 14k gold blue topaz. They were pretty, but too much for what I wanted to spend. I think the seller was asking around $450.
20190714_154448.jpg
Blue zircon with unstamped gold, cathedral like setting. Most likely from the 50's. I almost took this one home.
20190714_155906.jpg
Seed pearl, possibly blue topaz pendant. This was also $450, but was missing a seed pearl.
20190714_162042.jpg
These werent vintage nor antique, but a very unique style of pearl jewelry.
20190720_182620.jpg
This wasn't from the show, rather an etsy find. Vintage Bogoff signed rhinestone necklace. A contender for my wedding day necklace.

And now onto the estate sale! This house was filled with all sorts of knick knacks. So much history within the walls.

For the things I brought home:
20190720_151924.jpg
No hallmarks, but the edge design had tiny milgrain detail all throughout and the post had been replaced. Set me back only $7.
20190720_182416.jpg
Vintage puppy plates! The one with the beagles actually didnt come with the wooden frame. We went to another estate sale that we just happened upon and luck would have it. They had exactly one wooden plate frame that matched!

Nice pieces! I'm pretty sure this ivory and jade pin is Krementz.
Google "Krementz Ivory Jade pin" and you will see more!
The blue and white plates in your photos are Bing and Grondahl. I see collections of them often.
I went to a few estate sales today, but they seemed devoid of any good stuff. I think the estate sale people remove the good pieces before opening up to the public.

You are totally right about the pin, spot on! I knew it wasnt something super valuable but I thought it was pretty, so why not!

The second estate sale, a part from the wooden frame was a bust. It was their last day and all that was left was Christmas decorations, some children's toys and dishes/glasses. They had a deal where you could get a bag and fill it with anything you wanted and only pay $5. But we couldnt even find more than two items we liked.

My fiance always says yes and drives me to estate sales but each time he reminds me, "we better not be doing this once we have kids" haha.

These are some recent finds.
Assorted vintage pins and a Czech glass necklace.
IMG_20190725_161721.jpg
Agate bangles IMG_20190725_142001967.jpg
A Sterling and enamel fish bracelet by Kabana, a local jewelry manufacturer
IMG_20190725_141133505.jpg
And yet another sterling nut dish by Royal Danish. $4.00! It's very heavy and in perfect condition.
Once again, I find sterling mixed in with junky plated pieces. Thrift store people assume everything is plated.
IMG_20190725_141324717.jpg
IMG_20190725_141405540.jpg
A Middle Eastern inlaid wood box
IMG_20190725_141908485.jpg
And a super cute strawberry trinket box with red crystals

@stracci2000, any idea what period that amethyst brooch is from? I'm not selling it just curious, can't find another one but that's probably just me. No markings on it anywhere

I would say Art Nouveau, based on the vines and leaves.
That style was indicative of organic forms, and inspiration from nature.
With no markings, theres a chance that it is plated.
If you had an acid test kit, (Amazon, $15-20, hint-hint)
you could test it yourself and find out for sure if it is solid silver.
Did you see the thread about amethyst, and how to tell if it is natural and not synthetic? @arkieb1 suggests submerging the piece in a white bowl of water and looking for tonal banding in the stone.
It's an impressive and gorgeous pin!

I did see that thread so I'll have to do the water experiment on it and art nouveau...I'll look at some examples.

I actually wore it today on a purple dress!

For my birthday this past weekend, my fiance took me to a historic district about an hours drive away. There were about 3-4 blocks of antique stores. Unfortunately, I think it would've been more aptly called vintage or second hand shop row, instead of antique row. Many of the items most of the stores had were just old toys, dishes, stuff from when I was young, so definitely vintage at best. A couple stores had antiques but were very overpriced. I saw a beautiful cabinet from the late 1800s for $12,000. It was beautiful but the shop didnt allow photos.

I did manage to buy one item at the last shop I stopped at. No history or markings, but it's got some weight to it. Perhaps it was an inkpot lid at one point? It went well with my collection so I brought it home.
20190805_172105.jpg
I was very tempted by this reprint, but opted against it as I had nowhere to put it!
20190803_145406.jpg
I really loved this horse matchbox holder. But it was $100 firm!
20190803_134914.jpg
I believe these were used in store displays to sell biscuits that came in a cardboard box. This was a fun find as the antique article I'd found a while back referenced nabisco biscuits.
20190803_141949.jpg
And this was parked outside one of the icecream shops. At least it was a gorgeous day out!
