What are all your inputs with regards to having a stone set in NESW prongs? I really like the ones made by truegem but I heard that having NESW prongs means the edges of the stones are exposed and can easily chip. Is that true?
The best way to get what you want is to send pictures. I used some AV pics for reference as well and asked for a long, thin culet. In person, the culet ends up being pretty small but I feel like this helps with the mirror effect on the stone and makes it look less like a moissanite. The level at which you get that sort of Maltese cross though is a matter of your own tastes.

I would try Demi. She seems more experienced then the others and Cherry seems so busy. Email is [email protected] WhatsApp +86 177 7740 7925

All the rings I have had made are anywhere between 6-8 grams. I would not make it so thin that you might loose pave. It is more important to make a good quality ring because fixing it can cost more than the ring itself sometimes. I prefer 2-2.5 mm for pave and lab diamonds are more durable and easier to replace if you do loose one. It is really hard to find people to work on moissanite rings if they did not sell them. Very few companies will actually carry small moissanite pave. At least a lost lab diamond can be replaced with a mined diamond and still look ok but I would still purchase maybe 2 extra just in case.

I do like the NSEW prongs but it does leave the edges exposed. The South prong can also get in the way of a band. Just depends on the design but something to think of. An 8x6 moissanite is 1.5 carats. If you do 8x7, that will be a bit more chubby but is a popular size and probably closer to 2 carats. They do face up about 1/2 carat size smaller than a round though. I usually order weird sizes to guarantee a cut not from stock, but that is just me.

Thanks for your reply @swaye2010! I am more into a chubby cut, and thought the dimensions that Truegem uses are ok for me. But I'm just worried of SG cutter is used to the more common sizes, would asking for a custom size give me weird cuts...
Is there a reason you don't want stock stones?

I have had 3 of the antique elongated cushion’s and two of the square one’s. I have also had the crushed ice in the canary color. I haven’t done a brilliant because I tried the oval and it has a similar splintery cut to it that is not my favorite. Someone had ordered a cushion from SG and this is the completed pic. She didn’t go through with the order because she switched to the antique cushion I believe.

The grey moissanite looks ok. I like the idea of some of the ones I have seen in ballerina rings like the Heidi Gibson or Kristin Coffin halo’s. I did help someone order an antique elongated cushion some time ago in a grey. She did not like it at all. I hate to put it out there but she said it looked like a ‘butt’ and once you see that, you can’t ‘unsee’ it....LOL

I order weird sizes just to make sure they make it as I want. In the beginning, they had their own standards but we sort of forced them into what is the ‘norm’ for the US. Each vendor does things slightly different but a few of us who have stuck around have tried a lot of the cuts. I like to show pics and specify how I want something cut rather than just leaving it to chance. This way I know more care will be taken with my stone but it does add an extra 2 weeks of time to wait.

Demi sent me a few new pics of the set together
E489DFE3-E4B9-45D8-9E67-B1C7E8108371.jpeg 3A4C00ED-A419-4BC5-B6A6-4AA8C9D0ED9A.jpeg 3B46E71E-4678-4022-B269-086926D39E45.jpeg
I told her to ship the set. From what I can see, they should be fine. I still can’t tell the cut of the stone, but I do like the steely look it has in the photos. Now it’s just the waiting game. I’ll take pics when they arrive ;)2

I'm ordering a pair of small studs (4mm). I asked for H&A. They came back with this:

Is this H&A...? Are the arrows just thin?

After seeing posts about starsgem hydrothermal emeralds, I had to give it a try. I just got pictures. I'll have to see about uploading a video. The side stones are lab diamonds.

Hi ladies,

Could I have some input? If I want to make a ring like the one in the picture, what size side stones are they and what size should I get? will they be tapered baguette? Does SG cut for that good?
I have a size 5.5 finger and don't want the baguette sticking out too much. Screenshot_20190726-174732~2.png

I am in love! A halo similar to this is on my list. The design looks just great. Very similar to what I did for my oval on the dimensions and I have to say it was a very solid ring. You can upload a video with imgur. I find it easier than vimeo these days, which has started limiting some of the functions unless you sign up for a premium account.

Edit -when luckyrabbit and I were working on her’s, we asked for a very slightly included stone. Like with a few silk lines so it looked more real. Is that what you are going for or they also do the one that looks ‘perfect’ but it has a more glassy appearance to it?

I don’t know if it is the angle on the viewer but it is looking like that weird transitional cut again. Can you send them a pic like this or one from google images that displays the hearts & arrows in the right way. I know they can do it but they seem to be getting confused with the newer people or on the thick arrows request.

Thanks @swaye2010. I sent them Sue a pic of H&A, and she said that you can only get that cut for 6.5mm and above... apparently they can't do thick arrows for smaller stones!

I think you are going to have to go with Tianyu then. I know they do the H&A stones in the smaller sizes. You will end up with something that looks like a round brilliant if you order earrings in the small size and they don’t look great.

You could actually get lab diamonds from SG in this size. It may cost a bit more but probably not that much. I think the 3 mm size was something like $32 each. I know with the 4 mm size the price will go up a bit more but it is still much cheaper then what you could probably get for lab diamond earrings here.

Thanks for the tip - I've already paid, though, so I won't be able to switch over to Tianyu :(( I feel a little disappointed, since I specifically said that I wanted H&A cut with fat arrows when I ordered. Sue agreed to provide this to me; it was only later that she said that they do not have the cut in the size I ordered.

I would be very annoyed too; do they have lab diamonds available in that size? Depending on the price, you may want to consider those. I’ve only ordered the smaller lab diamonds as size stones, but all I’ve seen have been bright and white.
If not and Sue told you hearts and arrows before you paid, I’d request a refund, and if denied, escalate. I like StarsGem, but really feel one should get what they ordered when they paid and not a lesser substitution.

Apparently 4mm are $160 each! $320 is a big jump. CAD fees are apparently $30 as well, which I would lose if I cancelled my order at this point.

EDIT:

I'm going to ask her to change stones to 4mm OEC instead. It's a little pricier, but the idea of getting RBs is killing me! Fingers crossed haha.

It’s here!! Sun is going down, but I still caught a few shots with those arrows popping. The band fits without a gap, and the lab diamonds are clean with lots of sparkle.

Once again, I’m impressed with the quality and price. Maybe someday they can work on their photos ;)2

Beautiful! Makes me reconsider getting my loose stones from SG instead of Tianyu. Is this DEF or GH?

G-H. No yellow but some a great steely color. I’m impressed. The setting is lovely too!

Did you get the band and the solitaire from them? They look really nice together! I wish I could get SG to take better pictures. I keep asking but I see some people get decent pictures and other’s do not. It doesn’t help with the bad lighting and white walls where they film these video’s.

I am curious what size the lab diamonds are in your band and is it a full eternity?

Hi guys, new here and been admiring all these lovely rings for a long time. Looking for some advice ordering a ring.

For the standard sizes moissanites (i.e. non-custom) were you able to pick and choose the stone, or did the rep just pick one out for you?

@sd_flp - I am loving your cushion! Is that what is called the OMC? or ACC? How are you liking the performance so far?

For ladies on here who had their rings made with side stones - how has it held up? I have read on WB that some people's stones have fallen out. Wondering if I can tell them to make it more secure somehow (beefier prongs?) or just get the setting made by my local jeweler.

I have been trying to collate some of the lab diamond prices for pave or 5/7 stone rings as people get quotes. I am going to assume these are all VS quality and in the G/H or near colorless range. I wanted to post it before I forget in case we need to reference it again: It almost seems to double as you go up each 1/2 mm except when you start getting to around 1 carat and those still seem pretty expensive from what I can tell on Alibaba. Like similar still to Brilliant Earth prices...

Lab Diamond prices for melee (each)-

2.5 mm - $12
3 mm - $35
3.5 mm - $60
4 mm - $160
4.5 mm - $240

I did get both from them. The lab diamonds are 2 mm, it has 15, so they go about 2/3’s of the way around.
The pictures are such a funny thing too because I’m dealing with Demi, and I’ve seen some great shots- some even on their IG feed, but for both of my purchases the pictures have been the worst part of the experience by far.

The sun was going down when mine arrived too so I didn’t have much time. I like this ACC so much better with diamond side stones. The double refraction was driving me crazy in my first version of this ring. This one sits lower and faces up smaller than the squarer version of the other ACC with the ruby collar. I thought it might end up being too high that I was considering replacing it with my Asscher aqua that is coming tomorrow. I think I like it as it is though after wearing it for a few hours now so I will keep it as is. I also got back the remade Tianyu solitaire knife edge. It is very pretty but I don’t think I like the modern rounds as much in moissanite so I think I will sell that one.

Couple pic’s. Not great lighting because the sun was going down but the video looks ok.

And...only because I have nowhere else to show this at the moment...this is the Aqua and I have to figure out what to do with it. Maybe another baguette simple 3 stone but with longer tapers?

Edited to add - I forgot to mention that this guy cuts moissanites as well. If you are interested in loose stones and want precision cuts, this is the way to buy it from a Midwest based person who does not charge by the carat. It is just the rough prices, shipping and a $75 cut fee. The aqua was under $300 for a 9x9 and I also got a 2 carat yellow tourmaline for less than $280. His moissanite prices have been even cheaper then this and you are not restricted to just the typical diamond shapes either. He is working with a group that decided to pool their skills to keep up with the demand on reddit and you can find out more on r/shinypreciousgems or just ask and I can get you the additional info.
