Hi Everyone :) I have been scanning through this thread and I am wondering, what is the general preference these days for OEC moissanite? Tiyanu or SG? A bit of time has passed since the first pages here were posted and it seems people were disappointed with some of the cuts from TY? Can anyone speak to their more recently cut OECs?

Here’s my 8.2mm OEC in G color from Tianyu. I sold this ring but just placed an order for another in 8.5mm. It is beautifully cut, but can’t compare it to SG since I never ordered from them. I also had a H&A from Tianyu, but my preference was the OEC....it just looked more real. Also, I’m partial to antique cut diamonds as my engagement ring is an antique moval diamond. But I am interested in hearing from others about the OEC from SG.

Hi! I just ordered Asscher Cut studs...I bought princess cut earrings from them before and they are perfect...I decided to go with Tianyu again because of how well they cut my princess earrings..and they would be a quarter of what I would pay to get them through AV because I would have to also purchase the setting. I can never figure out how Ella describes the mm size. I asked for 5mm which would be .75 carats each stud. It came back in the description as 5*5mm..with the little flower type asterisk in between.I went back and said I didn’t want 5.5mm but I just wanted 5mm. I actually don’t like huge studs in the squarish cut. Do you think she means 5.5mm...or is the way she would describe 5mm? Weird question but I’m baffled...

My thoughts are that she means perfectly square at 5mm by 5mm. Of course double check with her! Can’t wait to see them!

my thought is also that it is to mean "5 x 5" - but I can't be sure either!

I am pretty sure it means 5x5 if I remember correctly.

Thanks..I think so too..It’s so strange that I like small squares for studs...so wanted to make sure they weren’t as big or close to the size of the princess studs. I definitely would want big for an asscher or princess ring though..The princess studs are gorgeous so hoping for the same in the aschers.

Looks exactly like mine. I think you will be happy with it. It is very classic and goes with almost any band.....
I hope so! Waiting for it to ship and get here!

I don’t know if it’s a bad cut or what. I had moissaniteco design a platinum antique ring for me with CC F1 GHI Hearts and Arrows center 6mm. The stone is dead most of the time. I have an OEC .40 diamond that outshines it even with no light at all. Sometimes the moissy looks like plastic or cloudy to me with no depth.

So my question is what now lol. I am stuck between Starsgem and Tianyu for another hearts and arrows or just to try a new cut OEC.

Please let me know what you think shows more depth and what performs good.

I am attaching my OEC diamond and my moissy (top picture)

Sorry you aren't happy :( CC F1s are often poorly cut. I would look into the Moco AGS 000 stones (shown on Instagram but not yet on their website), or an August vintage h&a stone. Those are the best moissy available right now IMHO. For a cheaper and still solid option, I would go with tianyu for h&a round (I think theirs is better than starsgem but not 100% sure).

Thank you so much! Do you think OEC would look better since it is a vintage setting? I am not sure about an OEC moissy. I used to read they were not nice looking but lately I am seeing that people love them. This is so hard lol!!!! I am ready to order Tianyu brilliant...H&A & OEC and just pic one.

I am stuck between the H&A or OEC now to replace my brand new F1 H&A ghi that I am not happy with at all! Do you think the OEC looked a lot better? I love my OEC diamond but it’s .40 and I really wanted 6mm for my center in moissy. Your ring is beautiful!

In that size, they are still pretty cheap. Should be under $100 each. I personally liked the OEC from Tianyu better then the other’s.

If you don’t like them, you can always put them in a pendant or resell on Loupe Troupe or Diamond Bistro. They won’t be hard to get rid of.

If you want a slam dunk though, I 2nd what @lovedogs said and buy one from August Vintage. I believe his coupon is still up. They are returnable if you buy from stock but they do charge a ‘re-stocking’ fee if you send it back. I do think an OEC would look better in that setting.

Sadly his H&A are all sold out in the 6mm size that OP is looking for. But totally up to you whether you want an OEC vs. H&A!

And honestly if I were you I might just order both the H&A and OEC from tianyu and just sell the other one on LT or set it into a pendant. For under or about $100 each it's not a huge risk either way (IMHO). I would definitely show them exactly what you want in terms of look (find some on this thread that you like to show them as a reference), and ask that they show you a video of the loose stone prior to shipping.

That’s a good idea! It’s less than 200 for both and I can always reset the other. I am going to go with gh since it’s supposed to look vintage. I am afraid def will look too white.

Thank you so much! I am going to also go to the mall and look at the diamonds lol. Maybe I just don’t like hearts and arrows? Unfortunately no one around here sells moissanite

Lab diamonds are getting pretty cheap now too. If you can wait it out, Lightbox is supposed to have the 1 carats in 2020. You can also try Moissanite & Company to look at and return within 14 days. Maybe you need to see the OEC in person to compare?

Also Loupe Troupe and Diamond Bistro always have preloved. A gemstone like a sapphire would also look great in there. So many options these days. Especially with a vintage type setting.

I ordered both H&A and OEC, my eye just drew to the oec more. It just looked more real. I would do g/h Oec. With H&A, it was cut really well, but I’m a diamond snob and could tell it wasn’t real.

Thank you SO much!!! Yes I think that is definitely what I am going to do. I am a diamond snob as well lol!!! As much as I wanted to love this F1 H&A it does not look real to me at all in most lighting.

I forgot to mention Ivy & Rose online (Chicago). I have bought a few loose diamonds from them. For the size you are looking for, they have some good deals on vintage diamonds and even some MRB’s. If you really want a diamond instead of a moissy, you might consider a lab diamond as well...

Yes..I think the DEF will be too white for the OEC. I bought the DEF...and although it’s beautifully cut..it’s just too white. I prefer super white RB diamonds..so thought I would even love it in an OEC..I would go to the GH if I were to do it again. It’s being reset by David as we speak because I do love it..but do think OEC’s look better a little warmer.
