If the Diamond has an inscription, isn’t that clearly stated on the gia certificate? So a buyer knows prior to taking it to a jeweler if they are indeed verifying the inscription or not?

@eyeramay
Welcome to PriceScope. I am hopeful you received the diamond you ordered. Keep us posted please!! I totally understand your dismay in having any involvement with this unethical dealer (ED). It is absolutely disgusting and so disheartening. Continued prayers for everyone waiting for resolution, ongoing proposals and special celebrations.

I just looked at mine and one has it on the reports but not the others and its not clearly marked at all!!! It’s in extremely small letters saying only and ”insc:mad:xxxxxxxx” I’m not certain it means that but I think most likely does..... I’ve never noticed it but it’s worth a look for those who are concerned..

It will have an E on it, I think if it’s enhanced. But, not all GIA diamonds are laser inscribed either. Hope you get some answers!!

Hello again everyone,

Thank you for the suggestion @Nancyb. I ordered a loupe on Amazon with next day shipping (it says it has 30x and 60x with a light), and hopefully I'll be able to find the inscription because the GIA report does mention it is laser inscribed. I know it'll be easier to take it to a jeweler, and I'll definitely do that this week if my attempt at finding it isn't successful.

@RSZ, thank you for your kind words. What an emotional roller coaster this has been for everyone. Joshua actually texted us pictures of his newborn daughter from the hospital the day that Fedex delivered the ring. I remember being so suspicious of his runarounds for the delays, that I didn't even believe him when he said his wife was in labor at the hospital. And when the ring finally arrived and he texted the pictures, I felt so guilty for thinking he might've lied. I still don't understand what would drive someone to behave like this, especially when it will likely impact his family for years. It reminds me a lot of that netflix show, Billions.

@MK Malone, thank you for the warm welcome and kind words! I know I have felt comfort at reading the responses in this forum before I decided to post, so I'm sure that others will too. Just simply knowing that good people out here are outraged at the wrongs committed, even if it didn't personally affect them, really does help restore a person's faith in humanity when bad things happen.

I'll keep you all posted on the inscription. Hope everyone has a good day today!

If you post the GIA report number someone can check the GIA site to look at the report- it will indicate if there's a GIA inscription. But as has been brought up- not all GIA graded are inscribed.
As bad as this mess it- and iits truly terrible- there's no evidence that the people who's orders were filled got the wrong stones, or worse fake stones.

Just noticed this on Rapaport on-line:

Enchanted Diamonds Files Chapter 7 Bankruptcy
Jun 24, 2019 7:37 AM By Rapaport News

RAPAPORT... Online retailer Enchanted Diamonds has gone into liquidation with liabilities of $1.7 million.

The company, which also had a showroom in Times Square, Manhattan, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in New York federal court on June 20. This follows a suspension of the company’s Better Business Bureau (BBB) A+ accreditation, with BBB confirming it had received a spike in consumer complaints regarding transactions with the business.

Customers from 11 US states have contacted the bureau in recent weeks, complaining about lack of communication with Enchanted Diamonds.

The e-tailer, which also goes by the business name Online Diamonds International Corporation, has been subject to scrutiny by US-based online aggregator Rare Carat since June 12. CEO Ajay Anand published a blog post on the website six days later, stating that Enchanted Diamonds had not been featured on its site since May 30 because it had contravened Rare Carat’s listing rules.

A representative from Enchanted Diamonds, which also sold loose stones and jewelry on its own website, had emailed customers on June 15, Anand added, telling them that it would resume operations at the start of the following week.

He has since confirmed that, as this did not happen, Rare Carat will file lawsuits and pay legal fees for consumers who say they have not received their orders. The directive will apply regardless of whether they used the site to find the e-tailer.

Enchanted Diamonds, which was formally incorporated in October 2012, had been headed by president Joshua Niamehr.

I don’t know if it’s possible, but I hope - at a MINIMUM - that there is some kind of option the courts have to impose a sanction on him ever re-entering the diamond business (or any business as an owner, for that matter) when this is all said & done.

The attorneys probably don’t want to do this yet, but if someone in a position of trust would start a go fund me, I would throw in $20.

My Gosh! What a terrible Planned from ED!

Thanks God! I am so lucky was not a victim of this!

Sometimes in late April, I chatted to inquire the price of GIA diamond, Joshua said it would ship within 7 days. Then few days later I inquired about matching, his wife would match and emailed me immediately the invoice.
Two days later she told me the supplier pushed her either purchase or drop the holding stone for other vendor. I did not respond.
Luckily, I decided went with other vendor ( even has not received my stone yet. Should be here by this week sometimes). Otherwise, I would kill myself for the lost of $40k. Thanks God!

ED had been planned this accordingly so well!
In may 21, still Joshua constantly emailed about their stuffs and his wife reminded if she can find me another nice stone ! What two evils they are!
They need to be in jail to learn the hard way!

I hope everyone who was the victim could recovery some of your $ if not all.

We were emailed by Joshua, the owner, apologizing for the delay in delivery and told a second email would be going out on Monday.

@Nancyb @eyeramay @MK_Malone, @RSZ

I'd like to offer a few clarifications re GIA lab reports:
* Their Diamond Dossier reports (available for diamonds up to 1.99 carats) do not include a clarity plotting diagram; instead, the diamond is engraved -- free of charge -- with the lab report number. And that's noted on the Diamond Dossier report.

* A clarity plotting diagram is standard with the more expensive (but not the priciest) Diamond Grading Report; if an inscription is desired in addition to the clarity plotting diagram, inscribing is an extra charge. The inscription, if done, will be noted on the report.
You can see samples of all their reports here:
https://www.gia.edu/gem-lab-service/diamond-grading

* GIA will issue a report for diamonds that have been clarity-enhanced by laser drilling, which eliminates/minimizes black inclusion, and diamonds whose natural color has been changed via HPHT treatment. Reports on those diamonds will note the treatment & HPHT colored diamonds are specially inscribed.
It will not issue a report on a diamond that has been fracture/feather-filled (which is what is most often sold as "clarity enhanced").
More info here:
https://4cs.gia.edu/en-us/diamond-treatment/

:wavey: Hope this helps & provides some peace of mind.

HI, RSZ
Is this referring to an email you received before the corporate bankruptcy petition was filed, or did you just hear from him?

The story above is slightly inaccurate. It alludes to a representative and not the owner. He did this prior to bankruptcy filing and sent to most of us that I know of. HTH.

So are you saying don’t look for an inscription? Why? I have 4 GIA diamonds all with inscriptions and I never paid an extra charge. They can take it to a jeweler to at least look. If not they can get it appraised or examined for comparison to the report. So yes it certainly does mean something. They expressed concern of it authenticity. I gave them good advice.
Chill. :cool2: That is NOT what @diamondseeker2006 is saying. She saying if it’s not there, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it is NOT the right stone. There is no reason to panic yet. My diamond is GIA and is not inscribed. Yes, an appraiser can match the stone to the plot on the certificate. Yes, your advice is fine. See what @Bron357 said.

FYI GIA laser inscribe all diamonds under 1.00ct for free because it makes it easier for GIA to ID resubmitted diamonds.
Above 1ct all diamonds have an inclusion plot and their techniques make it possible very often to ID a resubmitted diamond (in the hope of getting a better grade).
so above 1ct the submitter must pay for the inscription. Is that fair? probably not.

Yes. She must knew all of this bankruptcy beforehand. They tried to get $ as much as possible in the quickest way from unsuspected customers.

Hey Garry
I'll double check tomorrow but I believe you're incorrect on this. To my knowledge GIA offers Diamond Dossiers for stones up to 1.99c .
This type of report includes laser inscription- but has no plot. On a normal GIA report, there's a plot. But laser inscription is not included- regardless of carst weight. Its available for a nominal fee, but you have to request the inscription. I believe this is regardless of carat weight on a " normal" GIA report.
The other plot exception is fancy color stones submitted for "Color Origin"
Such reports have no plot.

thx for correction - no doubt you are right David.
The point holds though - GIA laser inscribe for their benefit. No plot = free inscription

I am so sorry to hear there are so many victims…I sincerely hope that all of you can have your money back.

But first thing first, I really have 2 questions for the victims involved:

1. Is it wise for ED victims to seek advice from RC's attorney?

To be honest, RC and ED's victims have somewhat-ambiguous conflict of interest in this case (since RC was ED's partner in trade?). Every evidence RC's attorney acquire/withhold cannot be used against RC in the future lawsuit if the current one takes a bad turn.

2. Has ED owner's private bank account being seized?

ED has filed for bankruptcy (can it be challenged by claiming it is a fraudulent bankruptcy?). Is it possible to file Fraud to criminal court and seize their (the owner and his wife, since someone mentioned his wife is also involved in finding a diamond.) personal bank accounts?

Wishing all those scammed by ED much luck in recouping as much money as possible and finding joy in their engagements or special celebrations.

Of course I feel sorry for the people who are caught in this mess but... really? A go fund me for 233k USD when it's still not even clear if people will be able to get their money back? (I imagine that most who paid by cc will eventually be able to get the funds back).

I hate to use the "There are children starving in 3rd world countries" cliché but... hell, I'm just going to go ahead and use it:

There are children starving in 3rd world countries.

These people were purchasing a luxury item, not food, water or shelter. I'm guessing that most will not go hungry, sleep in the cold tonight, or die from exposure to the elements for a prolonged period of time due to this scam. Please, donate that money to a cause that may actually save someone from hunger or exposure.

And just to add, while I don't believe in hell, I'm sure that if there is one, then there's a special place reserved there for people like the owners of ED. Actually, it's the 8th circle according to Dante. May they enjoy their time there.

Given that Joshua is of Jewish heritage, Gehenna might be more appropriate than hell.

True, but the 5th trench of the 8th circle in Dante's Inferno seems like a pretty appropriate punishment for crooked businessmen/women though:

From Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malebolge):

Bolgia Five: Grafters (speculators, extortionists, blackmailers and unscrupulous businessmen: sinners who used their positions in life to gain personal wealth or other advantages for themselves) are punished by being thrown into a river of boiling pitch and tar. In addition, should any of the grafters try to escape the pitch, a horde of demons ("Malebranche", meaning "evil claws") armed with grappling hooks and barbs stands guard over them, ready to tear them to pieces.

Go home, @TreeScientist. Lets see how you feel when you're scammed out of tens of thousands of dollars. It really doesn't matter what these people's hard earned money was intended for, its the fact that they did nothing to deserve being stolen from.

These people may have been purchasing a "luxury" item as you call it, but for many of them, this very well could have been the only time they were ever going to be able to do so.

The issues going on around the world, let alone our own backyard, have no correlation to what happened to those involved in this theft. Since you had little sympathy for those effected by this ordeal throughout the first 350 posts of this thread, I suggest you go ahead and continue to leave yourself out of it.

My question is, was this approved by lawyers? My original post about a GFM mentioned that attorneys might not like this idea right now.

I would want some sort of “clearance” from an authority figure that it’s ok to go ahead with a GFM.

Great question @whitewave
I will let one of the ED customers who were robbed address this.

I think this has been told here already...that one of ED’s customers who bought a diamond from ED years ago, after a divorce, contacted Joshua and he offered to buy the diamond back from her. She shipped the diamond and Joshua mailed her a check dated June 18th. She just found out today from her back, that the check is no good.

It is all so disgusting and so many of them feel sick and embarrassed. Many of the gentlemen haven’t told their girlfriends because they don’t want to spoil any aspect of their future engagement. What I want most is for justice to be served, but I fear there will be no money left to be awarded even if the courts settle in their favor.

I think one of the concerns surrounding @whitewave ‘s question is IF the victims (who aren’t ‘made whole’ by their credit card companies or reimbursed by WD) benefit from the GFM campaign, there stands the argument that they may no longer have a civil claim against ED in court, which could impact the case I imagine RC’s attorney is trying to pursue on their behalf. That is why it is important to run this stuff by an attorney when one is representing ‘your’ interests.

I completely agree with what Casey mentioned earlier. This may be considered a "luxury item" but you don't know each individual's story behind what it took to get there. Indeed there are worse things out in the world, but we cannot put everything in the same pool. Nevertheless, no one deserved or asked for this.

Also I would appreciate it if you did not assume things. How do you know we didn't already take out consideration for people who paid by cc? The magnitude of this case is way greater than $233k USD.

Of course I feel sorry for the people who are caught in this mess but... really? A go fund me for 233k USD when it's still not even clear if people will be able to get their money back? (I imagine that most who paid by cc will eventually be able to get the funds back).

I wonder who would own the stone in that case. If someone bought something from you with a bad cheque, can you make a claim on the original stone as stolen property, since they never paid you for it?

That's grand larceny.
