FF53908A-B64E-46CD-9DE5-B5CBCB208831.png hello! Been a longtime lurker on this forum and have learned so much over the past few months! Haven’t posted anything yet as I’m not an expert so this is my first post.

Anyway thanks to this board I have narrowed it down to a halo engagement ring from Victor Canera. I was quite surprised and happy to see that his prices aren’t much more than prices on WF, BG and even a bunch of local jewellers I visited in the Chicago diamond district.

Still undecided on if I want the double knife halo or just single but at the moment I’m leaning towards this one with a the cathedral so my wedding band can lay flat with a 1.8-2.1ct round

My bf will be responsible for picking out the actual diamond but with the help of my notes and guidance (I love researching and have learned so much on this forum, I couldn’t not share it)

A few questions:
- I was planning on having him purchase from HPD, WF or BG to get a great cut. I care more about size than color but still want it to shine :) hoping for at least a 1.8 ct as my ring size is a 9. Will we be able to get something for under $16k (diamond only)
- i read on the forum that someone bought a diamond from VC. Is this something worth doing or will we overpay vs WF ACA etc.
- if he ends up ordering the diamond from WF or HPD, could he ship it directly to VC? Has anyone done this before?

Thanks in advance!

Does VC accept outside stones?

I recall some posts a few months ago (?) where either him or another vendor basically said NO! lol

He said there are some specific settings they only do with their stones so guess it depends. I read on some thread once iirc that he doesn't work with certain vendors' stones (i think it was august vintage) not sure if that is correct.

Piggybacking off of what @bludiva said, I believe them even agreeing to set outside diamonds is seasonal (depending on how busy they are).

Probably best to email them yourself.

Thank you all! I emailed him and Nicholas emailed me back and gave me a quote for the setting and said if I did choose to buy a diamond from them, that it would be a 10% discount on the setting. Are his prices for diamond comparable? Was planning on buying from WF or BG to get the best bang for my buck as I hoping to be able to find a 1.7-2ct for under 18k

IIRC VC does not believe in / like ASETscope as an assessment tool, so his stones are perhaps not directly comparable to WF, BGD, CBI etc., but as far as I can tell, buyers are happy with the beauty of his stones :)

What an exciting project! I wanted to chime in as I can tell you from personal experience that Victor's diamonds and the craftsmanship of his settings are both incredible. And yes, he will set outside stones for all but a handful of his settings (the more elaborate ones are limited to in-house stones and this is noted in the descriptions of those settings). However, if possible, it is easiest to just purchase both stone and setting from a single vendor, plus you will then get a discount on Victor's setting. That is a win-win if you ask me! Seriously, his artistry is just TDF...

I took a look at his inventory, and found a stone in your budget; it isn't quite as large as you specified but it is absolutely gorgeous!!

If you prefer to go up in size and down in color, I would recommend contacting Victor to see if he can find something for you. He is very selective about his diamonds, so he will find you something beautiful! And please keep us posted... I can't wait to see what you end up with!!

@lizz1234 , if you have questions as to what makes our signature cut diamonds so special, feel free to reach out to me by phone. I have a lot to say on the topic because it's something that I'm very passionate about :)

@OoohShiny , thank you for chiming in but I’m actually a big proponent of ASET and light performance. I think it makes a huge difference in the real life appearance of a diamond (in a positive way) if a cutter adheres to light performance principles. This is the reason why all three of our signature cut diamonds are cut for light performance in addition to other goals. This is done very early on in the planning stages of the production of our diamonds. The reason why we post ASET scope images of our signature cut diamonds is to showcase their light performance.

I think ASET’s advantages are less pronounced when talking about fancy colored diamonds for example. That’s definitely a different world.

IIRC VC does not believe in / like ASETscope as an assessment tool,

All the best,
