Hi, will you please show me your pretty indicolite tourmalines? Especially if you have combined them with other colored stones. What color gold did you choose? Any setting suggestions for my Afghan emerald cut? It is 7.1 mm x 5.5 mm.

Thank you, and Happy New Year to all the helpful PS’ers out there!

So beautiful. This is my preferred colour for indicolite. What is the weight? Does it look dark in real life?

I don't believe I've ever seen an indicolite before, but wow MissyBeaucoup, yours seems to be a combination of a top color aquamarine and a gorgeous zircon, all rolled into one!

@pwsg07, @lovedogs, @Acinom, @strawrose, and @prs --Thanks for your encouraging words! It's 1.3 carats, a nice blue, and clean crystal. The prettiest color is in the sun. It doesn't go dark, but you can tell that the axis that includes the ends transmits the light differently, which is a feature of tourmaline. The emerald cut helps bring that out. Sometimes it looks lighter, more like transparent water or silvery flashes, so it does seem a little like zircon.

I am often very indecisive about settings. I think since it's tourmaline it deserves some protection, but I think it might not be a good idea to close it up too much with a heavy setting. I would love to do some side stones, but the strong pinks I like might be overwhelming. Does anybody think paraibas or dark blue sapphires would work? And then, I don't know what goes with an emerald shape--pears? halo? My ring size is 5 so I don't have a lot of space. I'm kind of dreaming now since it's just after Christmas...but one day the piggy bank won't be empty. :roll

Your indicolite is beautiful! I think it would look beautiful on it's own with diamonds.

I did set my smaller one with pink and purple sapphires. Admittedly, it was difficult finding the right color combination and at time I thought about going another direction (but since I bought the stone specifically for the setting, persevered).

Here you can see it with different combinations before I had it set:

I love your indicolite tourmaline, it's so pretty!
Here is a picture of mine set in Yvonne's Camellia setting with Merlani mint garnet and hauynite melee in RG. The mint garnets glow in natural light, which I really like :)

Here's an entry from the prs Hall of Fame :mrgreen2: It's not an indicolite, but the setting might provide some inspiration. The ring is an aquamarine that belongs to @colorluvr I like this one and @lilmosun 's beautiful diamond setting.

Edit: Disregard the above, I just noticed your stone measures 7.1x5.5 mm so to get some finger coverage you definitely need a halo!!

The Emerald cut always say “Art Deco” to me (which is why I love them so much)
Have you seen Suzanne’s magnificent new Tsav with blue sapphire halo. It looks wonderful.
Perhaps you could halo it but with baguettes in the Art Deco style? I think pink would look great.

mydiamondzone on ebay has a matched pair of diamond baguettes or princess cuts if you would want to make a three stone ring.

@MissyBeaucoup have you decided if you want a diamond only halo in order to keep the focus on your beautiful center stone, or are you set on a colored stone halo as your OP suggests?

If diamonds only, here's another entry from the prs Hall of Fame. It's @lovedogs diamond halo to end all diamond halos! Talk about finger coverage!!!

Ooh, thanks for all the beautiful ideas!

@Justin Low I love your beautiful setting and the east-west coverage. Beautiful stone...and impressive size! I hope you’ll share the details...

@lilmosun and @leslie1956 Those color combinations are scrumptious! The balance in saturation and glow really works beautifully.

@Bron357 You gave me a great insight with the Art Deco idea. I never realized that about emerald cuts. I think what’s most special about this stone is the light bouncing off those linear facets. So that’s what I need to highlight, maybe with baguettes, like @princessandthepear suggested.

@prs That is a dream setting! Wow! Today I’m thinking more diamonds only like some kind of skinny baguette halo or five stones with baguettes in two smaller sizes. Gotta start saving up!

Thanks for all the ideas, and the well wishes @Rare gem lover and @chrono ! @strawrose I look forward to seeing your pictures! Chrono, do you have setting ideas for yours?

Wishing the happiest of 2019 to everyone!

Hi @MissyBeaucoup! Thanks for the compliment :)
I bought it at 6.61ct from Ivy New York when they still have their shop in eBay :)
Currently they have closed their eBay shop and sell online on their own website.

Hope you like it

Here’s my 9.4 carat Brazilian indicolte. I still haven’t set it, but I plan to one of these days. It’s bicolor and goes more green at the tip.

This my 3 carat copper bearing indicolite from Mozambique. It has a GIT memo indicating the presence of copper. This does not have the glow of true paraiba, despite the copper. This just shows you that not all copper bearing stones are worthy of the paraiba trade name. It’s a pleasant looking gem though.

Here’s another tourmaline with copper (GIT memo). It’s not glowy, but us cut well, and is in 18k. This setting is one of my favorites. It’s a paler blue. C6CFE594-8573-46DA-B4C6-1A879E2BEE7F.jpeg

Would you guys think that Paraiba is a type of indicolite? Or should not be categorized as indicolite? Kind of like the relationship between Ruby and Sapphire?

Interesting question, I feel like some might be, while others where the green is dominant simply could not by definition :read:

Apparently the term “Paraiba” is for those tourmaline that are copper bearing. While we know (and love to death) the blue and green Paraiba I have seen a pink / red Paraiba tourmaline for sale. I just thought it interesting,
And unfortunately some vendors like to suggest that any blue or green Tourmaline is a Paraiba because then they can put an extra 2 or 3 “000” on the price!

My indicolite, along with spinels and paraiba melees. Yes... it’s really weird when sellers put “This is Paraiba ... maybe. Buy it anyway.”

I've noticed that a lot of sellers will advertise something as Pariaba color tourmaline, which suggests that the stone has a color similar to Paraiba tourmalines, but is not a Pariaba tourmaline. I'm fine with the description, as long as the price is commensurate with the actual stone. But it does seem a little deceptive. It reminds me of a local furniture store that always has huge banner signs on it that say "Going Out For Business! Lowest Prices!" It took me a while before I noticed that it didn't say "Going Out OF Business! Lowest Prices!"
