Is this amateur CAD design even feasible?

While I'm waiting for my insurance to send payment to Jonathan for my replacement diamond, I figured I'd take a stab at designing my own custom setting in CAD. A little background first: I lost my original custom-made Star Wars and Verragio-inspired e-ring. It took me months to design the original from my limited drawing skills; first, out of styrofoam and paper cutouts, then clay. That was until we found a local jeweler who was able to make the real deal out of 14K white gold. Unfortunately, we have been unable to get a hold of the local jeweler and are hoping Jonathan will be able to make us a new masterpiece.

This was over a year ago and I had absolutely no CAD experience, nor enough time to learn it and get the design completed by my fiance's set deadline. Over the past 3 weeks, I've decided to dabble in CAD (Tinkercad - free online platform) during my spare time (very limited). I'm still an amateur as evidenced by the not so clean lines in the attached images. The overall style is based on https://www.orospot.com/product/r20...iligree-platinum-engagement-ring-setting.aspx. I love the vintage look with the beautiful filigree, delicate milgrain, and engravings. I tried to mimic this style, while incorporating various elements from Star Wars. I'd like to know from the community of experts if what I'm envisioning is even doable before I drive Jonathan crazy/crazier.

Original setting, which I lost :cry2::cry2::cry2::

My newest creation, lovingly dubbed "Frankenring 2". If you want to play I Spy, see if you can find: the Rebel Alliance and Jedi Order symbols, the Millenium Falcon and X-Wing, and Han & Leia

Wow, super cool design.

My guess is you will have to make some adjustments to some of the finer details to make it feasible to make but if you are open minded and get the right craftsman I think it's possible to get something very close. Have you shared this with Jonathan yet? I don't think just any bench can do this design personally. I'd find someone that has done some detailed and unique projects before.

As far as CAD goes, here are some programs for you to dabble in (for free):

I think something like this is possible with some adjustments for the reality of metal and wearability. Also, some of the very fine details are simply too fine (ex. some of the bridge details).

You are all probably right . I’ll make some adjustments based on the suggestions provided. Thank you!

Not as random or as clumsy as a blaster; an elegant weapon for a more civilized age.

Head up! :cool2:

At the end of the day, it's just about strength of materials, imagination and dollars. Usually with latter two items, you can overcome strength of materials & accomplish some awesome stuff. Might drive your designer/engineer/architect nuts in the process but it's what keeps life interesting. =)2

This is roughly a $200 million project we built. The icon glass wall is very unique. All the exterior walls (metal & glass) are on various radii and 5 degree inwards tilt. The cantilevered section of glass wall I marked up cost about $1 million so there wasn't a column to support the load at the end of the wall. It's just money. ;)2

I think most of the details are too fine to be executed, and even if they were, I doubt you'd be able to see them. Maybe focus on one major element?

Beautiful work! And what a wonderful clean workshop he is working in. One can only guess at the years needed to develop his skills, and they are very impressive skills!
