New opal pendant. Annoyed with the prongs. Need opinions on talon prongs.

They have had my stone for three months and I still have not heard back.
Oh I'm so sorry. I'd also be terribly worried with that long of a wait! 3 months?
At least the bench person confirmed it wouldn't be a problem with yours and they must have a backlog during the busy season.
I too couldn't understand why shortening prongs would take so long, but they claimed it was the backlog of work to catch up and they went overdue on their promise date (2-3 days, 7 days max). I called several times and told them I was getting very nervous and I finally heard "give him at least two hours" and was able to pick it up on Friday before the weekend.
Perhaps you should call them back and say you're getting anxious and not so fine with further waiting after the several months wait!
Who knew desired prong work could be so hard to get?

I’m fine with the wait @blueMA . Just worried how it will look. I also don’t want to pay for a setting I’m not happy with.

Pricesope has ruined me. I never cared about prongs before coming here LOL.

Would it be Ok for me to ask you where you got the opal?
Thinking about an opal pendant with vibrant color for my wife for Valentine's Day!
Thank you.

I got my stone through an eBay auction (after many many duds & lots of wasted $$$).
Got the Coober Pedy through Etsy.
Had several opal sellers look for a stone for me for several months...a lot of offers but they weren't what I was looking for. With opals, none of them are exactly alike. I initially set out to look for one similar to @missy amazing Cartier Opal that was procured during the 70s by her father, but there's literally nothing like it out there.

I would recommend that you look at Black Opal Direct for quality stones readily available for the market, and that way at least you could return a stone if you don't like it in person.
For example, this one catches my eyes.

Yes...they can be very pricey, though you have to admit they're gorgeous.

For a lower budget, look into Ethiopian opals options as well, though watch out for the common clear milky duds that look like plastic. I can't vouch for this site, but look around and you just might find something for your wife for this Valentine's day - that's so sweet!

On a quick look, these caught my eye. Pretty.

Beautiful opal. I always had the thought that the less you work with an opal the less chance of breaking, chipping or cracking. Sometimes the surface of the opal is not even to preserve color and weight. The current prongs are far better than the long ones. If you are not happy redo it.

Yes, being a softer stone, I'd be worried about getting it damaged trying correcting it further, especially after what @rockysalamander mentioned earlier. I have a feeling the jeweler stopped for a reason, and will leave it alone for now.
