Hi all,
I'm excited to start thinking about 2019 bling goals, and wanted your help/advice about what to prioritize and how to design.

My plans for the year were/are:

1. an emerald in the "Isadora" style by cvb (likely a lab emerald, tbh)

Screenshot_20190109-074507_Instagram.jpg

2. Something with rainbow moonstone. Either a glorious pendant like kalimira (I'm sorry, I forgot how to spell your handle so it won't let me tag!) 778C403A-5A48-48DD-A3B2-39A02C80C4AD.jpeg

Or in a halo like below

Screenshot_20190109-074452_Instagram.jpg

Or in a flower design (not exactly like this but similar)

Screenshot_20190109-075535_Instagram.jpg

3. Something with opal (newly discovered love). Potentially in the onyx/spinel design that DK did for @Rfisher (which I sadly don't have pic of on my phone). It's sort of like this cvb, but no prongs.

Screenshot_20190109-074501_Instagram.jpg

Or more simple, like this

Questions:

Which would you prioritize? And what do you think about the design ideas for 2 and 3? Should the opal go into the onyx/carved halp, or is that better for the moonstone?

Edit. This LM is a much better image for the flower mokmstone design idea. it wouldn't have this big of stones or so many diamonds, but this one is a better rendition of what I imagine.

What an exciting thread! Love your ideas and inspirations. My guess would be that a beautiful (black?) opal would be easiest to sourrce. For example via blackopaldirect. A black opal has so many colours, so personally I would feel that too much would be going on with a black onyx halo. So my vote for a black opal ‘something’ would be the elegant halo.

I love your moonstone idea with either a simple YG bezel or the LM inspired ring.

Also love your idea for the emerald. It would also be gorgeous with an Afghan bluegreen tourmaline.

Sooo, I am no help as it would mean you would have to find ‘someting’ for that beautiful onyx setting.

Can you update us about your current collection with a family pic?

I say the emerald! An emerald ring like that would be so so pretty!!! Lab made or not.

But I think the question is more which of those do you think you would get more wear from? That would be the better choice in the end.

Thanks!!! My collection is a bit in flux right now, since I'm selling a bunch of stuff. When I first got interested in CS, I tried to get a lot or less expensive pieces, but realized I should have just waited until I could afford the ones I really wanted. so that's what I'm doing now :)

If it were me, I think I'd go big and do the emerald first. Life is just too short to wait any longer than you have to, for things that bring you joy. I'm not a huge opal person, so that wouldn't be my first pick, although your preferences might place it higher on the play list, obviously. I'm really fascinated by the idea of a moonstone flower ring... :roll2:

I’m so glad there’s another fan of the Isadora out there! When Caysie and I were coming up with the original design features for her, I told her I wanted the design to be ‘light and airy’ despite the obvious size and bulk of the ring. That’s how we came to the floral cutouts!

So I’m obviously biased. I would say Isadora first. She’s big and she’s a statement ring, but oddly wearable despite it all. Keeping the carved areas highly polished but the rest of the metal a brushed matte finish makes the carved areas glitter!

A lab emerald would work beautifully. The lab emeralds from Gene are gorgeous...

After that, I would choose to start on a moonstone piece while sourcing the perfect opal as i feel that could take awhile!

I have a moonstone project planned too! Just looking to find the right blue oval and then I can start! To begin, I'd say the Isadora. it's such a lovely springtime ring, and if you can have it ready for the start of the warm weather that will be a special joy in wearing it.

Do it! Do it! Do it!!!

I think the opal would benefit from a simpler setting and the moonstone should go into the onyx and diamond halo - would make for amazing contrast. What kind of opal are you thinking of getting? (my favorite stone).

Love that LM moonstone flower!

Seems like the emerald might be the easiest to source, but the you have to decide on a cut :) maybe start there while the perfect opal comes along? (Actually, I saw something interesting the other day - I’ll post you a link in the fashion forum)

For a black opal halo, would it look cheezy to use melee matched to the color play, maybe even with different colors?

I think the halo moonstone ring is so incredibly gorgeous that I would go for that first. I think the onyx deco setting needs a stone that is crystal and crisp to really highlight the beauty of the setting. Next I would go with the emerald ring. Such fun projects you have planned. :appl:

Thanks everyone! @Crystal_Dreams sorry for not tagging you originally! I didn't realize you are the first Isadora owner. It's an incredible piece. @paperunicorn I love the idea of the moonstone going into the onyx setting! But then I'd also want the moonstone flower piece.....so then there would be 4 big things this year. Whoops! :)

I believe there are many versions of the Isadora nowadays :)

Mine was the first to be designed, but Caysie had a prototype made of her before my finally piece was made, though with different details. I love working with her- she’s able to translate just a few words of ideas in a message into something gorgeous and perfect. She’s a true artist!

I would love to see what you end up with- please keep us all posted!! I agree that moonstone ring is also amazing and gorgeous!! So that gets my second vote

I am impressed that you have such specific bling goals lined up for the new year! They are all great choices and will be gorgeous! I am scattered and the last person that could help prioritize, but maybe you could start by narrowing it down between whether you would like a new ring, or a new necklace first, then go from there. I’m looking forward to seeing your projects come to life!

7D06BBBA-7A6A-4B20-A375-3EE879612EF8.jpeg I think an emerald in isadora would be nice for spring, as mentioned above, but the Elle/TGP setting you’re thinking of (pic attached so you have one ;)2) is one of my most favourites ever, so that is a tough call!

I keep coming back to this thread with nothing to contribute, since I'd be equally torn amongst three. For once I'll shoot back and see what happens, wait it out. 8-)

Can you remind me how big your center Stone for the paraiba is? The proportions are perfect. I'm thjithin of taking @paperunicorn advice and using a rainbow moonstone as the center for it :)

As luck would have it I think I'm starting on the flower moonstone first :) jeweler is out of town until Tues, but more details about it then! Thanks @Rfisher, I'm going to try and find something around that size in a rainbow moonstone cab. Your ring is so amazing.

Finally took a sub par pic of my collection (excluding the ones I'm selling). Im going to replace the center Aussie sapphire in the 5 stone at some point for something brighter, but love the ring itself.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful collection! I love every single piece you have. And I love that you focus on the pieces that you actually wear and love. I did a cleanup myself as well...

Great first 2019 project for you. I am looking forward to learn more

came across a faceted and cab moonstone that I just couldn't pass up. Hoping they are as nice in person as they are in videos.

The next 3 videos are the cabs I was considering (and another for caparison). The one I ordered is on the left. As an aside, I realized I like moonstones that don't go "clear" from the top, so I actually strongly prefer them to always be somewhat opaque or "hazy". The bigger (middle) one is cleaner, but ironically I don't prefer that look, which I know is odd.

EDIT:

That's so gorgeous! Will the faceted piece go in the flower ring or be in an independent project?

Ugh no idea! I thought the bigger cab migjt be too big for the onyx halo, but wasn't sure about faceted for the onyx halo....and couldn't bear to choose. So I got both. I am weak!
