I have missed a lot. I thought he first diamond was really diffferent? This AVC is really beautiful. It looks RICH. That isn’t the first word that came to mind. Can’t wait to see how you set it.

Thanks so much, @CravingDiamonds! :))

@InsecureSweetGirl - that made me laugh! And I agree - it's incredible!

@ccuheartnurse - I've been dancing around the idea of a faux bezel for a year or two now and was thinking there was a good chance I'd go down this path with this stone. But now that I'm considering a 5 stone setting, I don't think it would work...would it? I'd appreciate your thoughts on this. And I'd love to see a photo of your necklace with the center stone in it! And I'm looking forward to seeing your new ring, too; would you be able to post a photo of it on this thread when you have it in hand? It's horribly difficult to picture these things just in my head!

@Mamabean - as it turns out, the yellow is from the diamond. I expected more grey and brown - but it's truly golden sunshine color. It faces up very white, as it reflects back ALL the light around it! But against white paper, it's pure creamy goodness! As for whether it will pick up the pink from rose gold - I'm not sure. I'm thinking of doing this set in peach gold - half rose / half yellow. It would tone down the rose, while warming up the yellow. There's an example of different colored golds on DKJ's instagram - worth a look.

Thank you, @Octo2005 :)) I'm approaching the end of my collection and am now just filling a few gaps in the ring department before I call it a day. I still have one major diamond purchase to make, and that will probably be a Blue Nile stone that I'll upgrade continually over coming years. Much as I've loved this process, I'm glad to be almost done.

@LLJsmom - which first diamond do you mean? The BN cushion? That's the only other one I've been considering, and I actually started a thread on RT encouraging somebody to buy it, as it's such a glorious diamond. Someone did buy it - in fairly short order - tho I'm not sure if it was a PSer. In the end, tho, I didn't want to close out my collection without owning an AVC, so I took the leap. I've also never owned something markedly warm, so I wanted to give that a go as well. And besides...this one was bigger!

Hi, @rainydaze - and happy new year! Yes, this stone really IS a knockout. It's changed everything I thought I knew about my own taste in jewelry, and if I could go back and do my entire collection over again, I would do things veeeeeery differently! We'll see how this turns out first, tho; hopefully it will be as beautiful as I'm dreaming!

@mrs-b I don’t know you very long but I think you will never be done with closing out your collection...at least I hope not..It would be a huge disappointment for me as I really enjoy seeing how your mind works with your new pieces. I know I will never be done...=)2

Well, thank you for those kind words! Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), I will close it out. I've been like this my whole life. I start something with a vague picture of the end game, knowing roughly where I want to go. As I go along, it gets clearer and clearer, and a definitive finishing place emerges. When I get there - whether it's jewelry collecting, house renovating, undertaking study, or whatever - I stop. And to be honest, I think I'd go out of my mind if I thought there was no end to it. I'm more than ready to move on to different interests; last year was a huge push for me, and I've had a degree of burnout with it all. This year will see me done, tho I think my one, final diamond that I intend to upgrade will go on for a few years yet. But that will be the very last thing, and that, too, has a definitive stopping point. My husband and I have been living in the US, having moved here from Australia, for 18 years now. In 3 years tops, we intend to go home. At that point, I will be done with no wiggle room; I will NOT ship diamonds back and forth for upgrades, and I will definitely have other calls on my money. So even this last, single project will be over at that point. Yay!

And that's EXACTLY what I intend to do - that, and help people with designs, if they think I have anything to offer. Someone in the jewelry trade suggested to me a few weeks ago that I should be a jewelry broker. People who have only a vague idea of what they want (this is mostly guys, but not only) would contact me saying "I want to get a 'blank' - this is my budget - these are the main things I want - can you get this for me?" Alternately, people would talk to me about their ideas, and I could help them turn their designs from something average into something tasteful; I mean - seriously - how many pieces of jewelry have you seen where you thought "Oh gees...those prongs..." - or - "Wow! Those dimensions are *really* off!" - or - "Hmmm - that color gold looks hideous on her skin" - and so on. The list is endless.

Anyway, I'm not looking for a new career, but perhaps I can help out on PS in a similar way when I've finished all my own stuff. We'll see. :))

That would be great for you because you could still be creative but you could sleep at night. I’m doing a few things right now and it’s on my mind constantly..I’m drawing ideas on paper,etc..I would think it wouldn’t be as mind consuming as it would be doing your own pieces. I’m designing a band with David right now and I’m thinking about it all the time..even when I’m supposed to be sleeping..

This is soooooo good. An R AVC is so beautiful and your description of 'golden sunshine' is spot on. Are you set on rose gold or peach gold? It looks so crazy yummy in yellow gold :kiss2:!! Can we see her next to one of your rose gold pieces? I'm super excited for you and this project!

So it's not huge - but it IS gorgeous!

My AVC.jpeg

https://www.augustvintageinc.net/co...2-august-vintage-cushion-brilliant-4275-0117a

I've wanted a mid-sized, very warm EC or AVC for about 10 years, and in the end I just couldn't go past the curves of this beauty. This is to be used as an e-ring-style ring with my rose gold set. I'll either do a bezel or something similar to *this* setting:

Setting for AVC.jpeg

Setting for AVC 2.jpeg

DBL2.jpeg

or something similar to *this* setting:

DBL.jpeg

The first setting is a Maytall Hannah setting, belonging to @DorotheaBrooke and can be found here:

https://www.pricescope.com/communit...-ring-with-gog-august-vintage-cushion.201826/

The similar setting is by DiamondsByLauren and can be found here:

http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/index.php/jewelry/142ct-o-p-omb-diamond-ring-r5165

And the yellow cushion with the pink halo is also by DBL and can be found here:

http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/index.php/jewelry/161ct-u-v-si2-cushion-diamond-ring-gia-r7080

These are inspiration only and I'd make a bunch of changes - mostly to the style of band and to the basket, but they give an idea - especially the DBL halo, in that I'm considering a pink diamond halo.

It will be a while till this is finished - some months, at least. But I was too excited not to share! :wavey:

ETA The plain double bezel is most likely to be my choice. I just love those clean, strong lines that don't blur the shape of this beauty in any way!

Omg this is definitely delish! I’m m so glad you didn’t keep this under wraps! The R color will be sooooo buttery in colored gold... I truly can’t wait to see the finished ring!! I hope the journey from stone to ring is a smooth one!

Love love LOVE! That stone is just killlling me. I can't wait to see how the project turns out! To be honest, I am most drawn to the very first simple rose gold bezel, but you have such impeccable taste, that I am sure any direction you go will be stunning. I will certainly be following!

Hi @JDDN :)) I've definitely decided on...um...setting it? I've gone back and forth so many times, I'm just not sure where I'm going to land at this point! As a stone, I absolutely love it, but at the moment I'm knocking myself out trying to hunt down warm OEC melee. I have no idea how successful - or not - this will be, however. So we'll see.

Thanks @Keeliamira. Apparently, I can source warm traps and/or bullets. But warm OECs is proving to be a tad more difficult. I'm trying to chase up Yoram, and we exchanged a couple of emails a while ago. But I've had pneumonia in recent weeks, so have only just picked up the conversation again, and so far have not heard back from him. So we'll see. I have my fingers crossed.

@elliefire99 - thank you for your kind words. :)) If I can't source warm OECs, the decision will be made for me. I'm keen on the idea of side stones, but the cluster might have to go by the way. Rethe sides, I'm still not sure which was I might go - half moons and bullets, just bullets, some combination of baguettes and anything else, AVC sides, AVR sides - I mean - seriously - it just goes on and on and on..... My brain is starting to fry. o_O

@mrs-b I may be getting that cushion you passed up..I think I know what I want..and it sounds somewhat close to mine. I want a halo but not diamonds except for two square emeralds..one on each side..east and west.

@Mamabean - those settings are getting more and more expensive! (and news on that in a bit....)

@DorotheaBrooke - what a gorgeous setting, right across the board! I think I've settled on one, but we'll see if it's possible.

@m1918 - I'm glad you like it! I've posted all the photos I have, but will add any setting ideas that come to mind. :))

So here's the news on the setting. This is what I decided on; it's my own drawing and is done at a weird angle to show both the top of the head and the side of the band, but it gives the best view of what the overall design would be.

20190109_120106.jpg

Unfortunately, this is going to cost me a lot, because the oecs and bullets are to be in the same color, so will need to be custom cut for both size *and* color - which means it will take time, be difficult to find, and cost me more than something of a more standard size and color, as much more searching will be involved.

So, as a result, I've decided to push this back till next year. In the meantime, I have 2 other settings to do, plus my Christmas pin to make and my upgradeable diamond project to commence. I could also do with some time to refill the coffers, which were emptied when I bought the AVC. So this is enough to keep me suitably busy.

Just wanted to give an update for anyone who might be interested.

I just saw this @mrs-b It looks like a very pretty design! It sounds like you’ll still be busy with your other projects..

Well, after a remarkably short number of exchanges with Yoram - he's found some old OECs he can tidy up / recut for me to use in my cluster. I was REALLY taken aback, as I didn't expect such good news so quickly! I have no idea how long this will take, but suffice to say - I'm onto the next step!

Will soon be joining you, @Matthews1127, in the GenConcept club!

So exciting! We are talking about your new sparkle bomb, right? I’m so excited for you! What size stones are you going to use?

Correct! I've decided to definitely set my new R colored AVC into a cluster. I don't want contrast between main stone and cluster stones, so Yoram has sourced some melee for me that he will recut. We're looking at final cut melee in the 2.6mm size per diamond. I'm very excited!!

This is my first ever truly warm colored diamond, @Queenie60 - and I already completely agree! I've moved through all sorts of ideas, but ended with wanting a substantial splash of pale, sunshiny yellow on my finger! The setting will be made in yellow gold also, and I'll wear it with my Holly wedder. I'm SO looking forward to it; I think it will be a wonderful addition to my collection. I'm hoping to start a WF 'trade-up diamond' some time this year, and will work on that - probably for years, and I hope to set my yellow sapphire also. I have a rubellite to set as well...and then I'm done. YAY!! Four more rings still sounds like a lot of projects, but there's a good chance I'll get at least 3 done this year, so I'm getting there!

@Mamabean - did you place the order for the cushion? If so, when does it arrive? Are you having it sent straight to David?
