Been reading a lot of criticism of Kate's dress here- Am I in the minority, to say that I like it? I like the fabric and I like that it's kind of a retro 80s style..

From different things I’ve read, I think the Queen’s ‘displeasure’ with Camilla was moreso back when Charles was wanting to date her (pre-marriage to Diana) because Camilla was thought to be a bit ‘promiscuous’ (that was the implication anyway) and that wasn’t cool with the Queen. Once they were ‘free’ to be together (after Diana’s passing), knowing Camilla was Charles’ one, true love, I think she just wanted him to be happy. So I agree it is kind of surprising, but appears to be a nice gesture not only toward Charles, but to Camilla as well.

I think part of it is that Charles was very close to his Grandmother and it's sentimental for him that Camilla wears her ring.
