Decent Idealscope Image?

I came upon an interesting stone while window shopping and couldn’t resist requesting an IS image. I didn’t have high expectations for the image since it’s not in keeping with the exact PS proportions. But I was enamored by the symmetry, color and of course, size.

While the image looked reasonable to me, I suspected the diamond was tilted when they took it, which is causing some of the obstruction showing between 2-5 o’clock at the arrow tips and in a star facet at 7 o’clock. The vendor confirmed it is slightly at a tilt to the right.

All in all, what do you all think? Is this a decent IS result?

I don't see a big, fat, white table, so it looks pretty good to me! Share more info/pics when you have it on hold!

IKR... I was totally expecting a big, fat, white table too. I may be able to do better than vendor photos - thinking about ordering it to satisfy my curiosity.

Nice idealscope. slightly painted stone. What are the proportions? Looks like a nice high crown with small table combo

The crown is quite high... 36.5/40.6. I’ve really enjoyed how fiery my current stone is, so I’m thinking this will be as well. The table is 56%, however, it appears smaller than my current stone with the same.

The depth is also out of the norm of what’s recommended - 62.8%. That said, at 2.88cts, it measures 9.1mm.

It should be a very beautiful stone and very fiery! I believe @yssie's gorgeous 4ct stone has similar proportions and even though they're out of "normal PS range", they are her personal preference! Different strokes for different folks! You have the IS that confirms light performance so that's all I would care about.

Appreciate you pointing out @yssie's ring! It is absolutely exquisite and her stone is stunning. If this one is half as good, it may be a keeper.

@gm89uk, after your feedback, I ended up spending the rest of the night reading all I could find about painting. I'm still no clearer on this topic - it seems some are totally against painted stones while others feel it is acceptable, within reason, and adds beauty. Is it your sense the level of painting you're observing is within reason?

All the info I found on PS dated from the mid-2000's. It was mentioned that GIA downgrades cut on stones that are overly painted - can anyone confirm this is still the case? I'm hoping since it is graded GIA excellent, the painting is a non-issue.

@stonewell, that level of painting would not be enough for me to decide for or against a stone, it was merely an observation. Looks a great stone to me, nice FIC.

Thanks for the follow-up; it’s reassuring to hear you think it has good potential. I’ve ordered the stone, so hope to have it by early next week.

looks great, I really like stones like this when well cut and this one is well cut.
Looks like some very minor painting or digging on a few of the girdle facets but not enough to hurt one bit.
Its not that badly tilted in the pic, the long arrow shafts point to the way of tilt and the greater the difference between the long and short ones opposite the more tilt.

So grateful for your input! You had given me great advice when I was considering a particular asscher - I still stare at that beautiful stone for hours whenever I wear it. =)2

Please view it in as many lighting conditions and report back after a couple days of living/playing with it.

Could someone explain the "painting" you refer to? I tried google, and can only find art made with little stones hee hee. Curious as heck!

Quick update... the stone arrived today. =)2 First impression, the stone felt really huge and I began feeling self-conscious at the thought of wearing it. However, by the end of the day, it didn’t bother me so much. lol. I was surprised that face-up, the color wasn’t too different than my K stone in most lighting. That said, you can really tell the difference from the profile view.

I was slammed at work all day, so took some quick photos and videos in between meetings. Unfortunately, I only caught the late afternoon sun by the time I got home.

I’d love to hear thoughts from everyone. With JA’s 2x cost policy, this will be the last occasion I upgrade my round. So, this has to be the upgrade to end all upgrades for my e-ring.

Wow.. the small table and high crown (and being larger) make the stone really pop out, like a vintage cut round.

Not sure what’s going on with the video links... struggling to get them to work. Hopefully, these will cooperate!

Several of our conference rooms have a mixture of fluorescent and led lighting. They really make the stones pop!

I hadn’t thought of it appearing like a vintage cut, but it does appear so now that you mention it. So... think it’s a keeper?

It’s an I. My current stone is a K.

only you can answer that and by reading your posts I think the answer is pretty clear :}

Tbh, I do love it. However, it’s not hard for me to fall in love at first sight of any diamond. lol So, I’m trying hard to approach this with a level head since it really has to be the “One.”

I adore this stone. As long as the price is right, there is one thing that can potentially bug you. It is 2.88, not 3.0x. Are you ok with your final upgrade not being 3 carat?

Appreciate the feedback! Falling short of 3cts has definitely crossed my mind. I can’t say it won’t ever bother me, but I haven’t generally been concerned with exact carat weight as I have about the actual spread of a stone. I’m actually quite thrilled to find a stone with these specs and IS performance for the price. It was a lone GIA sitting among a sea of IGI stones and priced roughly 20-25% less than other GIA/AGS stones with the same specs. So, if that thought should arise, I think I’ll be able to override it with the feeling I’m being a savvy shopper by choosing a great stone that’s near 3ct.

I think it looks fantastic and I can clearly see the difference in color! Seems like the only question is if you will be content with this as your final upgrade. I'd like to think that I would be, but we all know how that goes
