That was me . It was kind of a half asleep impulse purchase, lol. He usually includes a hand shot in his listings, but didn’t on this one, so I’m hoping it will be as red as as it looks in the photos.

I'm watching this chinese series set in the Qing Dynasty where the king gave his Queen a hair ornament as a thank you present for managing his harem.

I got SUCH a kick when I saw this hair ornament from a jade vendor.

I would have loved this as a little girl to play kings and queens. Now I'm too old and am too sensible to ask that nice boy I married to buy it for me!

I would be scared it would fall out of my hair and break. I have always thought the idea of a jade comb sounds nice, and even admired a bunch in korea a few months ago (looks like they were a part of traditional jewlery, you can still buy them in places like the crown plaza ontop of seoul city hall). But I am a klutz who runs arround like a chicken with her head cut off on a semi periodic basis. So the reality is completely different.

Hi @Rare gem lover! I took those pics in my kitchen, but it was an overcast today so there wasn’t good natural light coming in the room. I have an overhead light fixture in the kitchen with GE Reveal Incandescent bulbs that reflects nicely off of stone facets . I’m not sure how the stone would look under CFL bulbs, but so far it hasn’t browned out, it just gets darker and less flashy in very low light like my other medium to medium dark garnets tend to do.

My purple garnet also gets dull in a very specific lighting. I get that. But doesn’t go brown either. That’s awesome, best you can get from a garnet. I have to say that red is just brilliant!

I think it would be quite light, maybe somewhere between the studio pic and hand pic? I’m so tempted to buy it and wear it as a solitaire ering when traveling or being outdoorsy, but it’s not in my budget either! It comes with an AGL report too!

I received my gems from Mastercut Gems' Rocktober sale. I bought the spess and star sapphire, and the little chrome vanadium beryl was a raffle gift. It's a lovely pale seafoam color but not in a rush to set it. The green stone there is my new chrysoprase pendant. These do not do the spess justice but I will show the spess in the future when I set it so I decided to be lazy now.

Also decided to pull the trigger on a couple of gem silica cab from Murphygems on Etsy. They're a 7mm-ish square and a 4.5mm round. I'm waiting on my settings to come in from China (they're in LA now, yay) so I can set my Holley agate and some smaller star sapphires/pearls. Then the next batch of settings will be for the large star sapphire and the purplish red star sapphire, as well as a heart-shaped 10mm amethyst from the same shop who is making me the setting for these two stars. AFTER all that is done my next projects will be getting settings for these two gem silica cabs. When it comes to cabs and large calibrated stones, I figure I should practice setting them myself.
