I have seen so many of his stunning gems on PriceScope and was looking forward to the day I could have one of my own. The gems on his website and through his news letter are often out of my reach financially right now. But I took a chance and emailed him about aquamarine and was able to get one cut that I was in my budget. It is shipping out today so I don’t have it in hand just yet. It is emerald cut which is my absolute favorite shape. It is 2.17cts, 6.38 x 8.80mm, eye clean!!! :kiss2:

This is really a beautiful gem! And the cut is so perfect to my eyes! Do you know already how you are going to set it?

Congratulations! I can relate with longing for one of Jeff White's gems - I'm still wishing! The stone you're receiving is beautiful. Can't wait to see how you choose to set it. =)2

Thank you everyone for the kind words and enabling :P2 I have been really drawn to more simple settings lately so I found a few ideas... I think the first 3 & the 5th are my favorites. It will probably be a white metal as well.

I think the gem would look even better with sparkle on the side, so I would personally go for the 5th or 6th. Have you thought about a three-stone setting? I always found side-stones appealing with an emerald cut center gem.

Yes! I was thinking about side stones for this and another emerald cut tourmaline I recently purchased. I’m wondering if nice white diamonds would make the aqua appear even more blue? Or brighter? I’m not educated on color theory!

It does not have to be white or diamonds.
I am having mine set with a pair of Morganite traps, also cut by JW, icy pink against icy blue.

I do not wish to thread-jack, however I could post pics of my stones and the setting I have in mind if you wish.

As you wish.
My JW Aqua, can't remember the exact specs, however my left hand middle finger is 11.5 US! I think it is around 6ct.

Morganite traps that Jeff had cut for me, they are still with him:

And this is the ring setting when I get round to setting them:

Oh my gosh! Your gem is the one I sent to JW as inspiration for what I was looking for! Yours is also more icy sea foam green which I was hoping to get but didn’t quite turn out that way. That will be a phenomenal ring once you set it! Those traps are lovely and will play nice with the aqua! Is that the exact setting or a close approximation? Is it a custom setting or pre made? I’m not sure I can afford custom right now but I kind of want to email David Klass to get a cost idea. What are the size specs on the traps?

I need to look up the specs on my laptop as they are not on my phone.
The setting will be custom made.
As for dimensions of the traps, I just left it to Jeff to decide.

I like a bit of green in my Aqua, and do not believe white sidestones would look good as it is very pale.

The inspiration of pink sidestones came from a pair of pairs CSs I bought from The Gem Trader, one aqua, and one pink tourmaline. They are going to be set in a toi et moi type setting.

And thank you for your kind words. :))

While we are talking about setting, here are two other EC settings that I like, my EC diamond RHR and a green Tourmaline from Gene. The centre stones are about the same size in dimensions, about 8mm by 5mm.

I love your gorgeous aquas, dk168 and Hivona :) Really like ECs for larger gems in general and think that both of them will look smashing with pale pink side stones. Can't wait to see the finished projects!

The Aqua is 6.16 ct and 9.37 x 12.18 mm (depth unknown), and the Morganite traps are 0.78 ct. / 4.46 x 7.92 mm and 0.82 ct. / 4.47 x 7.94 mm.

I did a 2D drawing in order to have some idea with the proportion and dimensions, and opted for 4.5mm width, 8mm length on one side tapering to 6mm, as I am going to have a 4mm or 5mm shank at the top.

As for settings, here is another one that I like, and if all goes according to plan, I shall ask Jeff to cut a synthetic Emerald as seen on his FB page recently and set it in a similar setting (thicker shank width at the top):

It is eye clean and none of my pics so far can quite capture the color that my eyes see. It is an overcast rainy day. The gem is not quite as saturated as one of the pics shows but not really as pale as most of them suggest... either way I’m very happy with it and love the hall of mirrors effect that emerald cuts display!
