Trying again because I would love to see some opinions on these two diamonds.

The first is what I'm leaning towards, girlfriend doesn't mind warm diamonds. I tried to stay within these constrains:
depth: 60-62
table: 54-57

We're looking to set into gold or rose gold, probably 14k.
If we go with the L color, should look for a single color 6 prong solitaire setting or should we be okay in a 2 tone setting? I personally think two tone settings don't look very good, and she wants something simple.

First one was 1.4 HCA, second is 2.0
I tried to request an idealscope and was told both are located over seas and an idealscope cannot be provided.

They are both quite similar, color aside. I'd personally go with the L as I think with lower colors you can just embrace and love the color. But, since I like color, I'd likely go for a M or N even. =)2 If you want to play up the color, go all rose gold. If you want to minimize the color, go with white metal prongs.

This is similar to those you posted, maybe JA can get an IS of this for you?

These have all the images you need to review, are within budget, qualify for WF's upgrade policy and have great IS and ASET.

https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3949674.htm {if she like K colored stone, I prefer the smaller table on this stone, 1.413 K VS1}

All told, I'd snag the WF 3949674 since you said she does not mind K color.

Thank you for your help! I like the ones you linked, especially the white flash ones since they have the idealscope images. I did notice that their settings are more expensive, and I was hoping I could get diamond + setting + wb all under 7.5k. I noticed WF settings are significantly more expensive, probably because they're designer. Also, I assume you mean that they qualify for WF's upgrade policy, not quality right?

The JA one you linked is the exact same as the second one I linked. I tried asking them again today for ideal scope and they said they would be able to source, it would be a few days. I will definitely wait on that and post when it arrives.

Do you know if I would be able to determine before ordering if any of the diamonds linked within this thread would be close to IVORY in color? She saw some diamonds on pricescope that were very close to ivory in color and she was just blow away by the color. I was hoping the L would be closest to it, but I'm also slightly afraid it might be yellow versus ivory.

You can always get a setting from JA and have them mail it to WF. You want the diamond vendor to set the stone. But, post what setting style she likes. WF can get settings from a few vendors that they don't show on their website and we can direct you to them.

Can you ask her for the link to the specific stone she called ivory? Usually ivory is a color you see used to describe antique diamonds...not modern rounds. L/M/N/O in old cuts often have that color as they have a very different facet structure.

You can ask Grace for a video of this one (a little small).
http://www.jewelsbygrace.com/1-02ct-transitional-cut-diamond-gia-k-vs1

This is more what I'd call ivory or vanilla.
http://www.jewelsbygrace.com/1-43ct-old-european-cut-diamond-gia-k-si1

Beyond budget...just look at the color. Another old cut...N color.

As far as settings, she wants something along this line:
https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...-basket-knife-edge-engagement-ring-item-41048

Key elements being:
1. 6 prong setting
2. knife edge
3. one tone entire ring, mid-low set.
4. 2mm approximate width on the band.

The only reason why she would hesitate with that setting is because of the basket design. Kind of looks like a cobweb from halloween, but from what I can tell, it's not even super noticeable.

The specific ivory color she referenced was from a photo of a thread who recently purchased 2ct+ sized diamond. I can't find the photo, but the diamond was sitting on a white piece of folded paper or something, and she specifically used the word ivory to describe the color. I think she had posted her budget was 20k or so, I'm probably not helping. I will try and find the photo later today.

The color that you see from the diamond is highly dependent on the environment.

Anything KLM will be not white, and not yellow, but something in between. Somebody who wants something distinctly colored, I would shoot for MNO

Hi JulieN! I figured as much! When I went to my local jeweler, he was kind enough to show me J/K diamonds in both indoor light and outdoor natural light, and once I was outside I couldn't see the difference between them. Even in store, I had a hard time telling the difference between the two.

When you say KLM will not be white, are you referring to the clearness that diamonds have? Because I want to avoid that absolute no color, and I want color, just not a complete light yellow tint(I'm not talking the yellow that fancy diamonds have).

So, they are both modern round brilliants. As each color band get lower (so D, E, F, G...), the band of colors within that color gets wider too. But, I think you are mostly seeing the difference in the lighting and setting in those two photos. We can see that the 3.43 has a yellow body color. I can't tell on @princessk - but yellow is certainly more common.

The line between K and L is narrow, so I'd still look at the WF stone. If you buy that via wire, you are left with $1256 for a setting.

Comes in both yellow and rose with a white head. 4-prongs.
https://www.whiteflash.com/engageme...sleek-line-solitaire-engagement-ring-1022.htm

This has a softened knife edge.
https://www.whiteflash.com/engageme...fany-style-solitaire-engagement-ring-3583.htm

Both JA settings I posted are also in budget. I happen to really like the Petite flower from JA. We've had plenty of folks buy a setting from one vendor to mail to another.

Edited to add. I love this setting with its pretty details. You'd mail your stone to TGP and she'd make the ring and get everything set.

Okay, so this scores 2.4 on the HCA (I know, I know), but there's something about it that I'm drawn to... maybe it's the lighting?

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...-color-vvs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-3356867 $6360

The CA is crazy at 36.5 - @rockysalamander, @whitewave, @LaylaR, others... thoughts?
It's really pretty. I have a 2.5 HCA pendant bought before I knew about HCA etc and it is really pretty too.

Plus that price!!! 1.53 for 6k? I'd consider it.

You may just have to see it in person.

Lots of responses while I was out running errands.

@msop04 @whitewave @rockysalamander

I have ordered idealscopes for JA SKU 3356867 that white wave linked, it should arrived within 48 hours.
I'm hoping that once the idealscopes come in, I can compare it to the WF SKU 3949677 that RockySalamander linked.

Lastly, between the one that Whitewave linked and the 1.51ct I found:

xTrxiB6.png

Is $130 additional worth the .01 x .02 measurement difference that I would see?
I guess I'm just trying to see why the 2.4 HCA would be a better buy than the 1.4 HCA of the one I found.

I guess I'm still having a hard time understanding Pricescope's standards when it comes to gems. Haha

No... there is no way you will tell the difference in 0.02 mm (or 0.8 - 0.1 mm, for that matter). However, the $6360 stone has prettier arrows and looks to be a "higher" L (whiter) than the other.

ETA: I would want to see the 2.4 HCA stone. I'm interested to see its IdealScope.

Since I requested the idealscope for this, I will tag you and rockysalamander when it comes in to compare with the WF one. :) Thank you for your explanations

Also, remember... the HCA is not perfect. Beautiful stones have been dinged (some AGS 0 stones will score poorly on the HCA)... so keep that in mind. ;-)

No problem!! I hope it comes back with a nice IS, because there is just something about the stone that I love! :)

I keep forgetting that HCA is more of a compass than a GPS

HCA is a rejection tool only. You reject anything under 2.0.

LOL. Totally not diamond related, but about 10 years ago I was running a field school. The students were dismayed by the fact that they could not use a GPS. That a compass was SO inaccurate, passe and not modern. So, I set them a challenge. Use their GPS to get from point A to point B in a straight line. I would do the same. Guess whose line was arrow-straight and whose was weaving all over the place. :cool2:

I kept clicking on that one too! What a nice CA/PA pairing. It makes this modern have that puffy crown I love in OECs. Can't wait to see the IS. If this performs, it will be such a gorgeous stone.

I think diamonds are hard for people like me, because the HCA is used to reject anything below a 2.0 but we're all waiting to see how the idealscope comes out on the 2.4 one because apparently I guess the crown/pavilion angles are unique?

I also spoke to JA about a pricescope discount, and they said that particular 1.53ct would be 6100 as well.

So I guess depending on what shows up in my email over the next couple days that one could be a serious contender :geek2:

It is confusing, right? Sticking to a narrow set to parameters and the HCA tool keeps you in a very safe place. But, many experienced folks don't use the HCA as much. I routinely look at the AGSL Proportion Chart.

But, since diamonds are all about the physics of light using a 3-d arrangement of mirrors...there are many numbers that are greater than HCA 2.0 that still are worth pursing if they can produce images (or you can have an experienced/knowledgeable person view them for you). This diamond's video is telling us that it has potential and that high crown is something many of us love.

In the end, a diamond is about beauty. What speaks to the viewer.

Thanks for the explanation! I definitely feel more comfortable the diamonds I'm looking at even if I am getting closer to purchasing because I've had 2-5 sets of eyes take a look at them.

I'm so lucky that there are a large number of people who enjoy helping others about this. :kiss2: I can't imagine what kind of diamond I would have picked if I didn't do any research first. When I went to my local jeweler, the prices and quality were definitely interesting.

I am seeing a brown body color on this one... is anyone else seeing that. Thinking that might be why it is discounted? And mabye it’s just me but it seems to have less action under the table... will be interesting to see the IS.

I also see the brown body color, but I think the "action under the table" is just fine. Then again, can't say anything until the IS comes in (JA videos don't tell the whole story).

And when I say "I see the brown color" I don't mean that in a bad way. I actually prefer the lower-colored diamonds with a brownish undertone to those with a yellowish undertone. The stone in question almost looks like a light champagne color, and some people pay a lot of money for diamonds labeled as such. In my opinion a diamond with that color would look FANTASTIC in a rose-gold solitaire setting. :)

Also, I agree with @rockysalamander, if the stone turns out to have a decent IS, the big, puffy crown combined with the champagne-ish color would give it the appearance of an antique champagne OEC. VERY elegant indeed.

Thanks TreeScientist!

Hopefully IS images arrive today so that discussion can continue. I'm also curious to see how they look. And I think if the IS images look good, I will jump on it. I have it on hold for right now just to be safe.

WOW. I can't believe my googlefu actually found it. Looking back on it, the color seems different from what I remember it being. The ivory as I recall, looked more similar to Diamondlover123's L ring found here:

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/show-me-your-rings-with-j-k-l-colored-diamonds.237380/
Hey crybaby,
I’m picking up my ring on Monday. Yes it’s an L but faced up white. It has a Strong Fluorescence rating. I think that helps take away any yellow tinge in a warm diamond in that range. I will post pics after Monday.
