IMG_0008.JPG IMG_9944.JPG IMG_9858.JPG IMG_9861.JPG Hi everyone! I recently inherited a loose stone (I was told it is a diamond from my grandmother's wedding set). However, it looks to me like the cut (maybe an OEC?) is not the best as it does not sparkle as other OECs I have seen online. I posted some pictures on another forum and someone suggested it may actually be a white sapphire. While I do plan on taking it to a jeweler, I was wondering if anyone might be able to weigh in. Regardless, the stone is very special to me and I'll be keeping it and setting it one of these days. :) Thank you for your help, and I apologize for the poor picture quality.

I am not a huge expert to judge by the picture ,but by the way it cut ,it less likely diamond ,more of sapphire . Def stop by any jeweler and they will tell you for sure with just once glance . They cut in deferent way :)))

Thank you very much! I'm curious to see what the jeweler says.

Interesting diamond ... uncommon proportions @kevnick80 & it appears to have been fingered somewhat.

The side view picture made me log back in just to say 'Hi ' =)2

Hi @valeria101! I know what you mean by the proportions; it seems a bit top heavy (especially in that side picture). I can try to get some better ones tonight. Do you mean it appears to look like it's been recut?

No.

It looks like an older cut from the times of closed back set diamonds (1800s); could be WILDLY wrong on this too ... Love the look !

It’s lovely. It may even be glass. My mum inherited my great grandmas “Ruby” ring and we found out it was actually glass. And that mattered not one little bit to us, we absolutely treasure this ring, and it will be mine one day

IMG_0215.JPG IMG_0214.JPG IMG_0216.JPG Update: while I have yet to make it to a jeweler, I think this may actually just be glass. :-/ I did the reading test and you can see a distorted blob where the x is.
