One of the groom's other sisters Tatjana d'Abo wore a very lovely pearl and diamond tiara. I think it might be Cartier, since there are some late Belle Epoque tiaras by the firm with a similar shape, but I'm not sure. Any information about the D'Abo family?

Almost five years later I have finally found some information about the above tiara. A Belle Epoque piece, it was on display at Humphrey Butler, a London jewellery, in 2013. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find out it's fate after that - whether it remained with them jeweller to be sold later or if purchased by the d'Abo family.
A side note: Tatiana d'Abo's late mother-in-law was Lady Ursula Manners (daughter of the
9th Duke of Rutland), who served as a maid of honour to Queen Elizabeth at the 1937 Coronation.

I have only recently delved into the world of Downton Abbey. It's one of those series that I always knew I would love, I just never got around to buying the DVD set. Well, I finally did under the condition that I could only watch them while on the treadmill. I thoroughly enjoyed the tiaras that were in the show.

I was a little surprised that Lady Edith didn't wear the Ears of Wheat Downton tiara for her wedding at the end of season 6. I can't quite tell if A) it had too many bad memories from when Anthony Strallen ran away or if B) that tiara wasn't en vogue for the time period at the end of series 6. I liked the one she wore, I just would have rather seen it worn higher on the head (I've never been a big fan of wearing tiara's bandeau style).

Now that I've finally gotten around to Downton, I must go for Victoria and The Crown next...

It's a nice show, isn't it? It was shown here a couple of years after the big success in the UK and US, but unfortunately, it was not to the taste of the Bulgarian public and they cut it off after the second season (also the voice over was horrible, particularly for the Dowager!).

I was not surprised to see Edith go for something different the second time. There are obviously the bad memories after Sir Anthony left her in the altar, but also the tiara was hardy en vogue at the time. Who knows, the poor thing may have broken after she tossed it on the floor! And it was fashionable when Mary wore it, but still a pretty thing. Rather surprised that a Marchioness wore something so insignificant and almost looking as if made of plastic or wood, but that's Edith and she's always made strange things in life...

Big news! I finally decided to start building my own little collection of tiaras. And guess what? They are Downton-Abbey-inspired! I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of (a copy) the Grantham Myrtle tiara (worn by Ladies Mary and Edith) and...drum roll... a classic FRINGE, like the one Lady Flintshire wore!
Actually my collection already has its first member - a 'pearl' and 'diamond' piece inspired by Chaumet and hand-made by me and my roommate.

ETA: Lady Maria, if you ever watch The Crown, you'll see so many wrong jewellery moment - things that are part of the collection but were either never worn by HM or with her mother at the time, appear together with firm favourites. Almost makes you wonder if the person in charge of the costumes is just not playing around and wondering how certain pieces would look together (eg. the Vladimir tiara with Queen Alexandra's necklace). But a nice show nonetheless. Now the one about Victoria is a disaster! It had a nice first season, but too many fictional character have appeared since and the directors/scriptwriters are playing with timelines rather freely. Also, according to them Victoria wore pieces that were never hers and were created decades after she was shown wearing them - there's a famous scene from the series of her wearing the Girls of GB&I 40-50 years before it was created! Not good historical drama, don't recommend. And it's not about the jewels only.

Hi, Bobby-

I certainly hope that you plan to share your tiara collection here as LadyMaria has shared hers. It would be unfair to tell us about it and then to withhold it!

I may be the only person not, yet, not to have seen "Downton Abbey". I have always meant to see it "some day". I hope that I do!

It is always great to see you posting.

How can I not oblige, Deb?!

Here's the one I made with my room mate. She's really into princessy and hand-made stuff and it wasn't hard to convince her to help me make a tiara LOL
I had already made one for her b'day last year (a large laurel wreath), so I had the know-how. I needed someone to draw it for me and help with the cutting. Needles to say, she duly agreed and we had a fun tiara-making weekend!

It's inspired by a modern piece by Chaumet, but I've changed the look a bit to suit my own taste in tiaras :D

Hey, fellow Pricescopers!

The tiaras finally arrived! I got them yesterday at work and all my colleagues were admiring them. The jewels are very sparkly and well-made (for the price range). I ended up having 3 tiaras sitting on my desk all day and even took the Downton one to a client call to compensate for a massive headache and to make the day a bit brighter (or sparklier) LOL

Pics to follow later, so stay turned.

ETA: Needless to say my roomie and I had great fun in the evening!

xoxo

Here is one of my tiaras, worn by a lovely model. The photo doesn't show how sparkly it really is. It is all crystals, prong set into white metal, probably used in a pageant of some kind
It was purchased at a thrift store. Yay for thrifting!

The model's name is Addie. She is so pretty! And 6'1", also!
I may have some better photos on my home computer, taken by DH on his Nikon.
This one was taken with my crappy cell phone.
I'll post better photos soon.

That's a most interesting tiara, stracci2000! Thank you for sharing it with us.
Do you know anything about the necklace and rings worn by Addie in the pictures?

Thanks,
B.

So at last here are my tiaras! Sorry it took me so long, but I was waiting for the weather to be good enough to allow for nice photos in daylight.

The Fringe - It measures 4cm (1.6'') at the center and graduates to 1.5cm (0.6'') for the smallest spike. It's really sparkly and the spikes are well-made. The fringe sits comfortably on the head and can be worn in different ways - flat on top of the head for a more classical tiara look (that needs good tiara hair and lots of hairpins) or ear to ear like a halo. It has two loops at the ends for an elastic band that gives you more comfort and security. Only downside is that it can't be worn as a necklace.
IMG_20180311_124425.jpg IMG_20180311_125128.jpg

The Myrtle Tiara - A very delicate piece and a joy to look at, but difficult to wear. The best way to don is flat on the head, like Lady Mary wore it on DA. It's rather short, too, and it can be a little difficult to balance it on the head like you would with a normal tiara. I plan on adding an extra (detachable) frame, so it can be worn in a more conventional way, but might leave it as it is now. Time will tell.
IMG_20180311_124637.jpg IMG_20180311_124656.jpg

The Sapphire tiara - This one is not mine, it's my roomie's, but she allowed me to post it here. The tiara is a replica of a sapphire, pearl and diamond tiara (part of a parure) that once belonged to Queen Marie-Amélie of the French, which was sold by the previous Comte de Paris in the 1990s. The shape is slightly different to the original's, but it's a lovely piece and looks very good when worn.

The necklace is cheap costume jewelry, but looks good in the photo! LOL
One ring is peridot and white topaz set in sterling.
The other is a large round citrine that I purchased loose, I mounted it myself in a sterling setting that I bought separately.
Tiara, dress and gloves all from thrift stores.
It's all an illusion, you see.

Bobby and stracci-

I do not know how it took me so long to find out that you had posted to this thread, but I did not see your postings until 5:00 this morning (March 12)! By today Bobby had posted all four of his fabulous tiaras and stracci had posted all her gorgeous photos of her tiara. My jaw is now on the floor as the jaws of others were previously! They are all so splendid! I do not know how you all managed to craft-and buy- such exquisite pieces! (Bobby, I know you bought three, but you made one!)

I love, love, love the photos and would welcome seeing more. Thank you so much for sharing them. I will spend some time just looking at this thread now, I am sure! You are so very talented!!

Thank you both again!

Wow! Lovely! You look like a Regency Princess! You need a beautiful gown with an Empire waist, and little satin slippers. Oh, and a silk fan!

That tiara was perfect for Princess Eugenie. And it matched her new earrings from her husband so well! I think the queen should make it a lifetime loan to Princess Eugenie.

Until I saw her in this crown I didn't even know her eyes were green!
