Intrigued by this 2 carat K VS 2

Can anyone detect color in this other than from the sides? Does it look yellow/brown to you?

I had started only looking at H colors, now dipping into Is....somewhat tempted to go for K given I get get above the 2 carat mark.

A lot of advice I've read said to stay H or higher in bigger round cuts...

Best to ask WF to send photo of both this diamond and an H in the same size that are side by side so you can judge with your own eyes. Each one of us has different color sensitivity. The video is maximized to show fire and dispersion and makes it difficult to discern actual body color.

I’m in the process of buying an ideal cut 2.25 L, so... Haha. I would sacrifice color (up to L for me) for size in a heartbeat.

For a Whiteflash K diamond, they can photograph it next to a higher color diamond and you can decide how you feel about it. Your salesperson will also tell you her thoughts e.g. whether it’s a high K or a low K. For me personally, I would jump at the chance to go bigger, especially because face-up it will probably look quite white/ivory if you are not extremely extremely picky about color and it will be madly sparkly because Whiteflash. From the side, sure there may be a slight tint, that depends on the setting you put it in if you never want to see it from the side. Rose gold settings supposedly help as well (mine is RG).

I agree with cflutist. The video with it’s black background makes it very hard to evaluate body color.

You can ask for the gemologist to evaluate it for brown vs yellow undertones. Seeing it face down next to another K and maybe an I and an L (if they have) will help you as well. It's really hard to tell in the video due to the background as others have mentioned.

I personally wouldn't recommend dropped to a K in a MRB unless you know you're fine with the color. It will be tinted...not a bad thing, but it bothers some and it doesn't bother others! If you're not the wearer, you may want to err on the side of caution and go no lower than a J. However, if you are the wearer or if returns will be easy, then go for it - WF has a great return policy so I'm sure you'd be able to exchange it without any issues.

Remember that diamonds are color graded table down. The color of the diamond will become apparent if it is placed next to a higher colored diamond. On its own, it's unlikely that anyone will look at it and think "ooh, yellow". I have an N color cushion and no one has ever remarked on its lower color.....And I came in close contact to a lot of people in my job lol.

Very true that diamonds are graded face down. These photos are all from the WF website.
I see slight tint starting at G.



But when face up I see a slight tint starting at H and the K is definitely tinted.

My girlfriend has a 4 ct. J that is definitely tinted imo but I have never said anything to her about it other than to compliment her ring because that would be rude.
Isn't it wonderful that there is a broad range of the 4Cs for all of us and each of us has our different priorities.

WF sent me these pictures of the K being compared to H and I stones. Perhaps it's just me, but I don't see a huge color disparity. There is definitely some tint when seen from the side but face up I don't see much of a difference. Thoughts?

What matters is not what we see but what YOU see. I am of Asian ethnicity and have more cones in my eyes so I see nuances of color better than my hubby who has more rods so he sees better in the dark. There IS a biological difference between us. The disadvantage is that I have to pay for F or better colored diamonds.

Bottom line, if you don't see a difference buy the K and save yourself some money.

Those are great photos. It all boils down to how color sensitive you are and how you feel about it. I'm extremely color sensitive and can distinguish minor variations in color very easily. I happen to like warmer colors in an antique cut and cooler colors in a contemporary cut.

On the subject of color, there are some color tests online that show how discerning you are with color. They're kind of fun. (Pantone Hue test, x-rite )

Do I see it? Yes. Would I care? Not if it means having a giant ACA that looks just slightly tinted! I think that must be a "high" K, because it looks really good (on my screen anyway)!

what is the size difference going to be between an I and a K given your budget?

If you're talking 1.5 carat "I" and 2 carat "K", I'd take THAT K.

I'm choosing between the 1.791 I shown above and the 2.014 K (both stones in the pictures above).

Edit - this will be set in 14K white gold. I've heard that may increase the yellowness of the diamond. Worrisome at all? WF did say this was a 'very white K'

Hmmm. I'd probably opt for the 1.79 then. That K does seem special though. Is this a surprise for your GF? Has she had any input on what she would want in an engagement ring?

I have a K 1.04ct H&A that I purchased from GOG. Beautiful stone- they've used it in their older videos.
Also have a 2.52ct G, beautifully cut but not an H&A that I purchased from WF, it's my e-ring.

I can absolutely see the difference in color, face up. Don't even need to compare them to see it. While I love my K, it's set into pendant, and I wouldn't drop that low for an e-ring. But I'm also in the minority.

When you get a K, one of two things can happen- after awhile you will a. see the color and it will bother you, or b. see the color and appreciate it.

My gf hasn't really expressed a preference on color. I know generally she thinks bigger is better, though she was expecting a ~1.5 carat stone so both stones are bigger than she is expecting. I'm torn really!

Now THAT is a low K. The K in your picture is ridiculously white and it is indeed a high K in my opinion. It looks like a better K than the example K from their website (that row of example DEFGHJIK colors above). Whiteflash does not pad their thoughts on the diamond, it’s accurate.

I think you should feel your gf out on her preferences. Like does she want a 2 ct diamond with slight tint in certain lights or 1.79 whiter diamond (and it seems to look distinctly smaller to me). If you think your girlfriend will be very happy with whatever you give to her and she knows nothing about diamonds and is not color sensitive, I think the K is truly outstanding in an ACA cut. Most of us end up having our diamonds look smaller and smaller to us after looking at them every day. 2ct I feel is a really perfect size (based on how those two diamonds face up compared to each other). In the event that the tint bothers her after a while, she has the option of trading in. I personally think that there is a high chance of your gf being happy with the diamond (assuming she is the kind that would be happy with anything you gave her).

I feel that the average woman who doesn’t know anything about diamonds and isn’t bothered about any diamond knowledge would just pick the bigger one, and the fact that it’s an ACA means it will be so beautiful and the ACA cut also helps the color when face-up.

Also how about just ordering the K and taking it to some female friends (including friends of hers) and asking them if they like it or see the tint? You can always return. I really think it will look fantastic in real life. (Again, this is assuming that your gf is not color sensitive. Personally, the only color i find any distinct tint in is the K in the entire row of DEFGHIJK sample diamonds.) Man I am rooting for the K. It is really not easy to find a high 2ct K that’s also an ACA. Since most Ks aren’t that white. If only we could somehow predict if she would like it, it is a fantastic deal.

Then it will be the best day of her life if you surprise her with that massive K if she is expecting 1.5. It seriously looks so white to me.

You can always swap out the stone in the rare (??) event that it ends up bothering her and she wanted a smaller whiter stone (she probably won’t after people around her are admiring the stone and how big and sparkly it is since IMO size and cut are the main things that others can see immediately.)

As someone who has an N OEC, a D color MRB and a pair of K colored studs, I would go for the K. I think it looks beautiful, and I like the tint, but it is my personal preference.
