I follow August Vintage Inc on instagram (and if you're a fan of vintage cut diamonds, you should check him out).
Anyway, he just came out with some august vintage cut moissanite and I can't wait to see more! If they are cut anything like his diamonds, I will have to own one. :mrgreen2:

Here's his pic.

Aren’t they amazing? August Vintage is dangerous for my wishlist - I find so many gorgeous stones I want!
Also check out Loveaffairdiamond’s recent rose cut moissy posts. I’m almost tempted to give up on diamonds and switch to moissy just for the insane colours they throw.

Did Jon leave GoG? Or is AV selling in both places for added exposure? And any idea why there’s AV moissanite and AV Amora?

Also, had just enough in my PayPal fun money account to snap up that rectangular one when it popped up for sale just now. Verrrrry curious to see it in person! I have a not-AVC-vintage-cushion from GoG as my ER, so excited to see them side by side.

I'm with you there. I want every freaking thing I see on his website (including those new ovals :kiss2:).

I don't know the exact difference between Amora gem and moissanite. I pulled that up online and found that they are both part of the silicon carbide family but the crystal structure is different. Also, the amora gem is said to have better color (wider optical band gap).

I finally caved in and ordered the rectangular AVC too. I haven't seen a moissanite in person so I'm both nervous and excited. I can't wait to see your comparison pics. :mrgreen2:

I’m so excited to see the new moissanites!! I don’t think I will ever own an AV diamond but a moissanite is much easier to reach!

Just checking in to see if you've gotten it yet. If so, what are your thoughts? :D

Just checking in to see if you've gotten it yet. If so, what are your thoughts? :D

I’ve had it for a couple of days and keep looking at it in different lights and I have a bunch of thoughts (all good):

1. The big thing I read about moissanite was that it flashed rainbows that people don't see in diamonds. My ER (a non-AVC-vintage-style cushion from GoG) flashes big fat rainbow colors all the time. It makes me wonder if people are comparing nicely cut moissanite to the typical jewelry store cut? Anyway...back to the rainbows: it flashes rainbows like crazy in my office - enough to be distracting. :geek2: Outside, on an overcast day, it flashes big white crisp light. It's excellent and I see the same kinds of differences in the way that it reflects light that I see in my diamond.

2. The cut - OMG. It's bananas. Gorgeous. All the things we love about vintage stones - tiny table, fat facets, big culet - it's amazing. I can't say enough good things about it. It's so fun to see an AVC in person - the photos just don't do them justice.

3. The color - my ER is an E, so I was curious what the color of a bigger I-J would look like in comparison. The I-J color is definitely visible - I can tell that it's not as stark white as my E, but it's not distracting or bad or yellow in any way - it's just different. It's fun to see the colors next to each other in lots of lights - I didn't see many certed stones in person before I ordered, so I went high color to be sure it was white. Now, I know that I'd be happy with something a little lower in color.

4. The look - looks like a diamond. If I didn't know, I wouldn't have any idea it was different. It does not have the same shiny iridescence that CZs have. It doesn't look fake or costume. It just looks...well, perfect.

5. It's enormous. Like huge. I have a 1.13 cushion with a 1:1.10 ratio (so basically, the exact same shape). Using that website that draws the rings on the fingers, it's got 77% more coverage than my ER. It would take a hot minute to have DSS with such a big jump in size if I wear it in place of my ER. (Well, I want to think it would, but I've been on PS long enough to know that's not necessarily the case! :twisted2:)

Here's where I keep getting hung up: what am I going to do with it? Am I going to have it set and wear it as an e-ring? Am I going to send it back and save my pennies and buy an AVC diamond of a comparable size? I definitely want an AVC now - I just have to decide if that means a diamond or a moissanite. I have a few more days to play with it in person and make a decision about what to do. Help a girl out - what should I do?!?

Pictures please! Thank you for your thoughts and observations. Would love to see it!!
I feel like you could keep it if you love it and enjoy it until you could get the diamond AVC you crave? I am sure the second hand market will be strong for an August Vintage moissanite should you want to sell it at some point. Just thinking out loud here...

Thank you for such a lengthy review. I'm still waiting on mine to arrive so this is a nice read. Would you be willing to post a picture of the AVC moissy next to your engagement ring? I'd love to see a comparison. :D

It sounds like a gorgeous gem. I ordered mine for similar reasons as you. I want to have a beautiful AVC cut diamond. This lets me see the cut in person to see if it's really the right one for me. But more than that, I can have an AVC moissy in a much larger size than I could ever afford in a diamond. I don't know that I need a 3ct but for the price, it's a deal (he just posted the prices of the new made to order moissanites. A 3ct will cost $1,650).

If you don't love it or you don't think you'd wear it, you should send it back. But if you do love it, you should set it and wear it with pride. It can go into a new e-ring rotation (alternate with your original ring), or a right hand ring, or even a travel ring. You can still save your pennies for an AVC diamond in the future (I'm guessing it may take a little while based on the cost difference). :???:

That's something I've been wondering. Resale is a pretty strong force here on ps. It will be interesting to see how the resale value is on these moissanite in the future.

@MonkeysInk have you decided yet? I'm so curious! :lol-2:

@elle_71125 - I asked my husband what to do...he said set it and wear it and have fun with it, so that’s what I’m doing.

I picked out a Stuller setting at a local jeweler (a little different than what my usual style is - thicker solitaire some milgrain, very different than my wisp thin plain solitaire ER) and I’m having it set east-west. It should be ready in two weeks. I don’t have a local jeweler, so I’m trying one out near my office. I’ll report back when it’s finished.

The discount of 5% appears to have been bumped to 10% (warmmeup is the discount code) according to today’s IG of a ridiculously pretty AVC
I’m just sad I’m not looking for an AVC right now..:oops2:

I ordered a 2.56 K that was on the website. Darn, I ordered yesterday at 5%, too bad I did not wait another day - oh well! Can't wait to see if I like it or not. If so, will have set in brushed y/g bezel setting.

That is a gorgeous AVC moissy. I've been ogling it on his website.
He's killing me with that sale though. I hate when someone awesome has a sale and I can't take advantage of it. :confused2::mrgreen2:

My husband has turned into my default decision maker, for when I can't make up my (super indecisive) mind. Nice to see that I'm not alone.

I'm glad you decided to keep it. I bet it's going to look awesome set east to west. I can't wait to see pics, once it's done.

It’s the yellow gold one in the Stuller thread that I commented on with the style number, except I ordered it in white. The sample in the store was a similarly-sized princess, so I got a little feel for what it’s going to look like. Is it two weeks yet?!?

I wanted my original ER set east-west, but the store talked me out of it. I’ve always regretted it a little, and this time the salesperson and the bench guy both said this one was perfect for E-W (and when I showed them claw prongs in a photo, they pulled out an order they were working on to show me they could do them), so I am cautiously optimistic this is going to turn out well. I don’t have a regular local jeweler, so I talked to a bunch of stores around me and this was the only one where the bench guy came out and showed me his work and talked about the details.

That's great! I don't have any local places i'm comfortable with either. I always end up sending things to David Klass. It's nice to know that there are some local shops willing to make a customer feel comfortable. :D

received my 2.59 K SI1 AVC moissy today! It's beautiful - need to see in different lighting but WOW, what a performer. I'll try to download a few photos. I'm so bad at photos.

Esrm1YvVQqWDx5kHcoLlDg.jpg This is the best photo I have for now. In process of deciding a ring setting. I think I am going to go with brushed yellow gold. Something different than my usual.
This is a 2.59 K SI1 It's gorgeous.

It is beautiful!!! What are the dimensions? What do you think of the color?
