Hi everyone, does anyone have an account where I can get pricing and purchase a Stuller setting? My jeweler locally will set my stone. Thanks in advance.

Your jeweler can more than likely order from Stuller. Ask them for quotes on what you are looking for.

Of course your jeweler will tack on their profit.

Thanks TyTy, she will get me one, but she's dragging her butt to get me a quote. I have asked several times and its just not a priority to her because she doesn't charge me much over the cost so its not worth it to her. Its frustrating to be honest.

I am reminded of an event many years ago.

Some of you may be old enough to remember the panic that surround Y2k. For some reason, many feared that the architecture of many programs were going to crash when it became the year 2000.

One of my friends with LOTS of money withdrew $4,000 from his bank, a big one who spent millions of dollars a month advertising how freaking fantastic they were and what incredible customer service they offered.

My friend went in a few days later and redeposited his $4,000. When he got his bank statement there was a charge of $60 on it. He called to inquire what it was for, he was told it was a fee for counting cash of $15 per $1,000. He asked that it be removed as it was deposited in the banks wrappers in four bundles of $1,000 each. The "customer service" representative told him that it could not be removed.

He replied that if it was not removed he was closing his account. The "customer service" lady told him he had to do what he had to do.

He went to the bank and took his twenty plus millions of dollars elsewhere. It seemed he did not want to be a mere customer, but rather a client. The distinction between a client and a customer is for another time.

My point is, you are not being treated like a client. It sounds to me as if your jeweler is dangerously close to losing you as a customer.

No, he just wanted 4 grand for walking around money while things got straightened out, just in case he could not use his credit cards or something for a few days. He figured if there was rioting in the streets that his money was safer in stupid big bank than at his home.

For what it is worth, stupid big bank continued to spend millions of dollars a month in advertising for some time after losing his business and his former banker called him several times, but he was so cranky after being dissed by "customer service" lady that he refused to even go have lunch with former banker.

I can call my jeweler and give him the stuller code and he'll give me a quote over the phone.

I got the feeling he uses the weight of the item to give me a price but??? That was just the feeling I got because when I was there requesting a quote
he just used the calculator to figure it out vs. looking at some other catalog that has prices in it or calling stuller for a price. Not really sure though.

I second the comment that your jeweler may not have thought this through. Stuller is very forthcoming and supportive of their clients. If he/she calls them, there will be an answer within a minute.

The same holds true for every other jeweler as well. Most won't sell just a mounting and there are a few other components like sizing and setting that make it not a totally trivial question, but if you call them up and ask a price there's a decent chance they'll give you a fairly straightforward answer.

My jeweler will be setting the stone and it wont need sizing. Kick to this is, I have been using her for over 20 years and just last week brought in a friend who was getting engaged and they purchased a 1.50 ct stone, so I hooked her up. I think its time to move on. I'm taken for granted because I am an old customer, while the new customers get the service that I deserve.

There are options on that for stone size, stone shape, finger size, and metal type (14k, 18k, white/yellow/rose platinum)

Bostonberry, keep in mind that if it's a piece that she needs to get a quote from the cad department on it, they can take a day or two to get the info to your jeweler. I've noticed Stuller has been taking longer and longer to get pricing to you on things that need customization.

Good guess, but incorrect. Having said this once, I can not use it again, so any more guesses will go unanswered. The who is not important, but the result should be a wake up call for those who only have customer service by underpaid hourly employees instead of client service by well trained and valued employees who are empowered to make intelligent decisions as necessary.

I'm sorry...I see that I wrote that in a way that was misleading. I'm just saying that my jeweler will do it over the phone. Its that easy. If yours wont do
it for you then you need to find a new jeweler. Also, what it cost in my area and my jeweler will probably be different than your area and the jeweler you
use.

I apologize for giving the wrong impression.

An update to my post: I was finally able to get my jeweler to get pricing for me. I tolerate her because she always charges me next to her cost. The ring I was inquiring about was $560 retail and $340 wholesale. She charged me $360, and that was adding on $20 for setting the stone. I paid for the item and it took her 7 days to order it. On the 14th day of her telling me every day it wasn't in yet, I called Stuller myself and that how i found out it was order 7 days later and that it had arrived yesterday. I texted her to say I was stopping in. She then lied and said my ring came in today (it was yesterday) and that she was busy and couldn't do it until next week some one. This is someone who I have gone to for 21 years and recently sent in two friends for diamonds. I was not happy! So I texted her and said I was coming in to pick up the ring and I will have another set it. I figured once I got there she would do it. It was a simple setting to do. She chatted for about 20 minutes about her ebay transactions and I took the ring and left. I went to another jeweler that I go to. I walked in and said can you set a stone for me now. His response was whatever you need me to do! I timed it. It took him 12 minutes. I sent her the picture 30 minutes after leaving her store ---- for the last time I might add! Like I said previously she is lazy and would rather chat with people and sell her stuff on ebay then service her customers who have been with her through lots of her lifes ups and downs. While I appreciate her getting me the setting at cost, this was the last straw with this person! :wavey:

Unless Stuller has changed its pricing MO (I don't have a copy of any of their current catalogs) or she showed you on her computer the invoice price Stuller was charging her, she actually did not give you the setting at her cost.

On the last page/back covers of the paper catalogs my terrific neighborhood jeweler gave me when he closed his little shop and retired a year ago (I miss him so much!), Stuller states that their suggested retail prices for merchandise, other than "contemporary metals" (e.g., cobalt bands), are "triple keystone." Which means 3 x the cost to the retailer ordering the mounting, semi-mount, etc. So if Stuller's MSRP was $560, I expect she actually paid Stuller $187.

I sure wouldn't begrudge her the $340: mark-ups on such items help compensate for, e.g., the appreciably lower profit margin on diamonds & the fact that jewelers usually have to pay for the showcase sample rings out of their own pocket (i.e., the samples aren't on loan or "leased" to the jewelers) in addition to what we'd think of as their general overhead costs. But if my belief is correct, her misrepresentation you were getting the setting at her cost is irksome.

Here's hoping you have a long and wonderful relationship with the jeweler who set the stone for you yesterday!

Thats interesting MollyMalone. Thanks for pointing that out. It actually makes me feel better knowing that she made something on the transaction ---- since I am no longer going to use her. I feel like I got a great price on the setting and I am very happy with it.

Here's to my relationship with my new go-to jeweler, who I have been using off and on for about 6 years.
