Help me consolidate: 2 studs + 2 mismatched diamonds!

Hello all. I'm on a mission to declutter and simplify my life (quality over quantity!!!) I've been uncovering things I didn't know I had. While cleaning out an old hidden jewelry box I stumbled upon 2 mismatched diamonds. One is a bezel-set slider pendant. There are visible inclusions, and my guess is it's somewhere between .5 & .7ct. The other is a French wire bezel set earring (I lost the other years ago)...somewhere in the same size range. I don't think it's particularly good quality either.

I also have two decent matching .9ct (each, so 1.8tcw) diamond studs.

I was thinking of resetting the existing studs with halos, since the only time I wear them now is when I feel I NEED to wear earrings, but on me they don't make a huge impact (I'm tall with long blonde hair so they hide easily). I might wear them more for work/etc with a halo, but certainly not for racing cars, which is the only time I wear them now :cool2:...yes. Under a helmet at times. Shoot me.

My other option with the studs is to just leave them as is and wear them more often.

The other two bezel set diamonds are a trickier issue....I think they're pretty low quality (thanks, ex!), and I'm at a loss for what to do with them. The necklace one is the worse of the two. Should I combine them both into a pendant? Turn them into semi-matching studs and use them for race days, saving the bigger ones (reset or not) for more appropriate use? What do you do with that odd diamond or two that you can't sell or trade and that isn't worth much and has zero sentimental value? I'm going to have those two popped out of their settings tomorrow to see how far apart they are from each other in color/size/quality......

Thanks for any guidance you can give me....
D

HI:

Are you sure a jeweller wouldn't be interested in taking them in trade?

cheers--Sharon

Pics?
I like the idea of possibly combining the 2 oddballs for a pendant. Maybe add a third, smaller diamond and make a graduated 3 stone pendant?

I'm not sure at all, but will ask when they pop them out...will also ask Steven Kirsch who re-did my e-ring with a halo and would halo the studs if I went in that direction.

Given the apparent quality of them though, I'm not sure they would want to give me any reasonable amount for them....

For the matching studs, have them reset as halos if you think youll wear them more often. There's no sense letting them sit there unworn! :mrgreen2:

Ok I don't know what DBTY is but I thinkI get the idea...just random diamond placement?

2 is such a stupid # if they don't match. Then I'll have to get a 3rd....

I did a stack with a dbty-style bracelet and one with the biggest diamond as a single bezel set one when I had some "leftovers".
Could look very nice as a stack with two Single diamonds.
I used rather thin rolo type chains and love the look.

This sounds intriguing...any chance you have a photo?

There's always the option to sell them. Do you *want* to keep them? Are they a quality that would work for you? If you re-set them, then decide "Nope - the quality isn't good enough" you'll just be out of pocket. Given the heritage of the pendant, I'd definitely sell that one if it has the poorer quality of the two. The other might work as one stone in a pair of studs, but if there's any possibility it's of an ok quality, you could always get a second one and attach each one above one of your .9ct stones. The post that goes through your ear comes off the back of the smaller stone - so basically it's a small stone attached directly to a larger stone beneath it. I've seen this look a number of times and it's very classy and much more obvious that a single stud.

Also - try cleaning the first before you try to ascertain their quality; if they've been at the back of a drawer for some time, they could be dirty, and cleaning them might give you a pleasant surprise.

Renovation works at our home, so everything at the bank that I'm not wearing...
This is the dbty-style one. Diamonds have slightly different sizes, so I wanted a slightly organic bezel look and uneven spacing.
The second one is the same chain, same style bezel, just one single larger diamond in the middle of the chain.

You just hit on something very important: I have zero attachment to these 2 smaller stones. For that matter, I don't have any attachment to the studs either...one is from my ex-e-ring and I bought a match to turn them into studs, only because doing anything else would have been a waste. Having said that, they're decent quality and an otherwise good size for studs (although I could go bigger).

I like your idea of adding the 2 smaller to the 2 bigger ones or even having the larger ones as a drop. But to be perfectly honest (is there any other way?) I'd much rather get $$ for the mismatched ones and put it towards something I really want. I KNOW that at least one has a visible inclusion, so how do you go about selling that type of diamond? I'm guessing selling the necklace as a whole might be the better option in that case.....

Here's a couple of photos just to give you an idea. You'd probably be able to get a second stone and have these set for less than haloing your 1.8ctw studs. Also - in the pair on the right, that metal swirl that connects the 2 diamonds could be done in pave, which would be very blingy, while still looking very classy. :)

Diamondbistro.com, Loupetroop.com. Put a link in the PS pre-loved section - but be aware, you won't get a lot for lower quality diamonds. By the same token, a jeweler probably wouldn't take them at all if they're of a significantly poor quality.

I think ultimately I'm going to take them to the jeweler and see if they can get me a general assessment of their quality. It's so hard to tell in their current settings and I've got no paperwork on them since it's so long ago.

If you arent keen on spending alot for the project, you might peruse the Stuller website for pendant and earring findings. Heres an example.

Well, crap.

The 2 stones really are mismatched.
The pendant stone is 5.1mm, SI2, j-k
The earring stone is 5.5mm, I, and yellower (unspecified).
The first one is the better stone overall.

Can't do studs with them and do not want to put both into a single piece of jewelry...so no bracelet or necklace with them together.

I could:

A) Do a solitaire pendant with one of them, and perhaps buy a mate for the other and turn those 2 into studs. But which one for which purpose? The better stone for the necklace?

B) What'd I'd REALLY like to do is sell/trade both stones for something nicer and make a pendant. How the hell do I go about that? My e-ring was reset by Steven Kirsch so I'll ask him...but I'm not holding my breath that any kind of trade of these 2 stones is reasonable.

C) I'm open to other ideas!

Is the earring I color, or I clarity?

I believe it to be I clarity. The color was farther down on the scale than the other, so it would have to be after K....
