Hello everyone. I just recently was steered to this forum and its absolutely terrific so far. So much great information! I was wanting to get some thoughts on a pear shaped blue sapphire for an engagement ring. Has anyone seen any available that they thought particularly highly of? Something not to deep with good color and size. My budget for just the stone is up to $6K. I can go a little higher if I find a stone that I particularly like or recommended.

Also, I know there is a extensive vendor list, but if there is any particular group of vendors I should look at that anyone recommended, I'd really appreciate it! I'm slightly overwhelmed by it all and just done want to make a mistake.

Thanks again for all the great information so far and hopefully look forward to hearing some feedback anyone has.

ha, not in the market at present for a sapphire but was browsing GemFix the other day and came across this pear which I find delightful in so many ways (color, cut, shape, carat weight, price) ... maybe it works for you? [Make sure you select "HD" quality for video setting]

Gorgeous minousbijoux. Is there different vendors you recommend I look at such as pearlmans?

Also, I've seen several pear shaped blue sapphires on the Natural Sapphire Company's website. What is everyone general perception of that company? Is it well thought of? is the pricing okay? quality okay?

Thanks for the info @normanintheskywithsapphires and @chroman. Sounds like its best not to go with NSC.

If anyone has any leads/recommendations on a pear shaped blue sapphire, I'd appreciate it! Still looking hard.

Hey everyone! I have put together a couple options that people have recommended and others that I have found. Could I have anyone's honest opinion of these stones and prices?

Also, if you can thing of any other vendors to go through or pear shaped sapphires, please let me know if you don't mind. Really appreciate all the help in advance!

This one from Dan Stair is beautiful and an amazing price. precision cut. Watch the video. There is a 'blemish' in the center. I tend to be more forgiving of such things in a beautiful colored stone, but you'll have to decide for yourself.

I really like the Gemfix stone. The GemsNY and AfricaGems are very dark to my eye and the second AfricaGems looks too skinny (not a great ratio). I can't really see much on the Perlmans (the photos are not coming through).

But, these are widely different in size (spread)...in terms of how much finger they will cover. Did your intended give you any size range for the stone? Does she wear any rings? If so, how big (in mm) is the center stone?

I really appreciate the feed back @rockysalamander. I also attached the photos that aren't showing up for the pearlmans gem.

In terms of size, I'm looking from something around 10mm in length and whatever appropriate length in width, in order to keep a good ratio of length to width.

Pretty. I personally prefer the lighter GemFix stone. It is just the 'right' color hue and tone for me. However, I would ask them to shoot another video in natural light to be sure that the saturation is even (pears will always have a bit of uneveness). The video they posted is a bit unclear on that to me.

That said, the darker one from Perlmans is still better than the AfricaGems. The saturation of this Perlmans is better and more similar to the Princess Diana sapphire than the GemFix. But, I'd want a video in natural light (on a hand just like the photo).

The 'color' choice is really up to your eyes.

Also, when you set a sapphire, it will tend to darken a bit (depending on the cut), so I tend to shy away from the darker ones unless they are super duper precision cut (and not aussie dark blues...I love you aussie but your blues tend to have a bit of grey).

For your budget, you might reach out to EarthsTreasury and see if they have any Montana Sapphire rough in this darker color tone. This size is a bit rarer in Montanas, but the blues in Montanas have a special depth and sparkly unique to them. ET's cutting is bang-on.

This is not precisely 6K: an almost-pear WWW (GIA) ... [to put the price in perspective WWW, a two carat-something conventionally shaped pear GRS 'Vivid' / VS is around there - 'Price on request'].

A couple of square cushions seem to have the nicest colour, much below the quote - around 1 ct (WWW).

____
Disclaimer - I'd always fall for the honor to witness the highest saturation of blue ...

I find the AfricaGems sapphire too dark and too expensive, especially for heated stones.
The Gemfix seems to be good value.
The GemsNY looks blackish.

Footnote: yes, there are more options in lighter blue (or drab-er, gray, less saturated ... I am not looking for them), but not pears. This shop does not carry heated, and there might be more of those, somewhere. Either way, the shape is the problem.

Light & slightly violetish - WWW - much nicer than gray-ish, but still discounted - for whatever incomprehensible reason ... Another: light, cold blue WWW.

Obviously, this shop does not believe in precission cut (I understand ... if perhaps not up to a steep trade-off with Colour); the baguette, is rather the exception.

Just a thought ...

Thank you for all the information you all have provided so far. Its great to get some informed/expert opinions on this, given my extremely limited knowledge.

That being said, it sounds like most believe that the gemfix is the best option? @normanintheskywithsapphires. Do you agree that this is a nice stone or just a nice stone for the price point? Do you believe I should move forward or hold out for several more weeks to see if I can find something better?

Anymore information or sources to try to inquire about other stones would be greatly appreciated, if anyone has any.

Thanks again everyone!

See Gemfix prices for sapphires of similar size ... WWW

A couple of weeks may make a difference if you ask for a better pear to be brought in.

If you are in no hurry, do hold out for more time. There may be a possibility of one you like better turning up. I've learnt that if not 99% convinced, more time to reflect may bring new perspectives and even discoveries!

That said, in Yangon, I've only come across a couple of pear shaped blue sapphires. But none particularly fine nor over 2 cts. Same goes for trillions. Definitely a lot more rounds, rovals, cushions and mixed cuts.

@chroman, @valeria101, @rockysalamander, @normanintheskywithsapphires. Thank you for the additional stones for me to look at! Which is your favorite out of this entire group you've seen so far?

It's hard to base these stones off what is a really nice pear shapped blue sapphire is/costs since I have no experience and have just been looking hard for the past week. I don't mind holding out a for another couple of weeks if you all think there will be more stones that turn up that might be better. I guess I just need to know where to look. Very stressful.

Thanks again for all the help, its much appreciated.

Frankly, no, I would not buy a treated stone to begin with, and I think it is too grayish.
But there always is a better option somewhere, especially if you raise the price point.
On the other hand, it seems one can search 'him/herself to death' and miss all fun, till you buy a rip-off white diamond just because it's easier.

Thanks @normanintheskywithsapphires. I'll keep looking around then. If you know of any other vendor/dealer to look at that might have some better quality ones, please let me know if you don't mind.

TheGemCloset: you might want to reread the site policies, as we are all prohibited from soliciting sales on the Colored Stones forum.
