Hello all,
I have been searching for an emerald cut diamond with not much luck and am looking for some help.
In the market for a 2 carat, D-G, VS1 or higher, ratio between 1.3-1.45 with minimal bow tie. Max budget is around $25k. Does anyone have any suggestions? Will be putting in one of these 2 settings.

Why not leave it to Art of Platinum to source the stone ... They seem to pick rather impecable specimens.

The two settings really are my style; would love to see what you will choose !

...
On the other hand,
Of course search is fun in its own right. I am not quite sure what you mean by 'bow tie' for an EC, just guessing it stands fot the flat look of some - with one overly broad 'step'...

I agree that you should let LM suggest some stones for you...I know in the past they've always picked nice stones but I think the person that did
it then is no longer there.

Anyhow, I did look at JA to see what they had and here are my 3 favorites (in order of how I liked them). I didnt pay too much attention to numbers and
basically pick the stones that seem to perform well (to me :)

Any luck? Do you have any stones in contention?

There is a reason why the inclusions in the VS2 are called 'pinpoints' (see GIA report); I do not expect to see them.

The other link does not work for me. then, BN does not display their stones - I'd have to guess what might be there from the GIA plot - not bad, but worse.

[explainer: I picked an IF stone above because going down the scale within budget, did not yield a larger stone ... I am, in fact, quite a fan of 'imperfections' - pinpoints would certainly not fall afoul.]

Do you think the James Allen is a good choice or should I keep looking? I don't know much about what to look for in an emerald cut.

The blue nile is stock number LD08319634

Don't look at virtual stones for an emerald cut. You have to look at vendors who have them in stock and have photos. Besides James Allen, Enchanted Diamonds has some with pictures and Good Old Gold might have a few.

Back when Perry Chen was with LM, there were instances where he helped people get good stones. But he is no longer there, so I wouldn't be inclined to have them source a diamond.

Ha ! These could be brothers ... I only see what you see & like all of them, to begin with.

What I am seeing: nicely even mosaic of reflections as these stones turn around. Nothing extreme among the numbers on the reports [except a 'Strong Blue' - for the fluorescence of the D/VS; - a matter of debate, enthusiasm sometimes & object to slight discounts; I'd say you may wish to decide whether the notion is amusing].

What I am not seeing is how bright these things are. It is a chore to show this virtually - not sure how each seller deals with the question: playing with the stones in more realistic lighting & riddling IdealScope shots is done ...

The E/VS2 is the most intriguing - the basics are perfect, and the stone is, unusually, not deep at all - 63%, hence the largest (by a hair) among the lot.

Couldn't say more.

What are your thoughts?

Nice to see an ASET shot ! Clicked twice through 'How to read an ASET' & 'Read [on]' - to see the local standard. I bet there is an explanation for how the stone's ASET fits against their own benchmark ... The stone could be quite nice - everything else looks & sounds good.

[Admitedly: I sure did write too much in this vein. The fact remains that all of us see the same screen ... ]

I chatted with support and he said it was eye clean (I was worried about the inclusion in the middle right) He thought the ASET looked good, but I'm not sure what an emerald ASET should look like. I really like the price of the stone and would give me more room in my budget for the 5 stone LM.

5 stone LM.

That is nice ! Fullstop.

About ASET... Much that I know, each seller may have slightly different lighting etc. for these, so I am taking their own reference chart for guidance.

This is the ASET of the stone in question:
E203-271309645_AST.jpg

- and the chart:
emeraldasets.jpg

I'd put the object among the middle row [stab in the dark] - just so happens that the pattern of reflections resembles the first of the first row & the first of the last row, with the all important amount of each color inbetween ... I do find these confusing: pattern is that much more obvious than the amount of each color, and the letter is where the useful information is (beyond what I am gettign out of the video, that shows those patterns of reflection in 4D - beautifully clear). All I know ... @Garry H (Cut Nut)

Update - I received my ring on friday. ECs are tricky to pick out. My fiance ended up getting a 2.0 E VS1 with a 1.22 ratio. I like the chunkier cut of the emerald. He went with the 5 stone setting from Leon.

Thank you! I am now debating whether to go with a plain platinum band or an eternity.

Oh wow. That is truly spectacular :geek2:. Congratulations!!!

If you do choose a band with diamonds I'd recommend keeping it VERY simple. Your ring can stand on its own!!

Congratulations! It's so beautiful!! I'd love to see that ring with a thin, sparkling band of pave'!! Perhaps 1.8mm-2.0mm? She's a keeper...and a show stopper! She doesn't need any help!!! ;)2
