Antique/Vintage or modern, colored gems and diamonds or all diamonds, any combination of cluster rings please share here! :appl:

I am a big fan of antique diamond cluster rings and would love to see any cluster rings PSers have. Thanks!

Hey Missy :wavey:

I have a pendant, which was made from a ring, and a ring made to match the pendant! The stones in the pendant aren't all that great; center is a .75 OEC taken out of an antique ring, then surrounded by rb's (each about .2ct) to form a ring - then later converted to a pendant. The setting was designed by a wonderful old school dutch jeweler who had worked with clusters before, and the underside of it is just lovely! I'm having a 21" dbty chain made for it hopefully next month, if DK can fit me into his schedule. Otherwise, it will be April. It will be made with 3 pt stones, but there will be 50 of them. mainly I'm after slight twinkle and something with just a little more character than a plain chain. It won't be a stand alone piece; I'll use it as the chain for a couple of different pendants that I own.

The second piece - made by SK - was originally all diamonds (1.3 center and 8 x .25 as the petals - all E VS2). I loved my original cluster, but always wanted to see it done with high quality diamonds. So I collected them over time and had it made. But something about it just left me cold and I ended up pulling out the center stone and replacing it with a 7.1mm Ceylon sapphire cut by Andrew Gulij at Gemfix. I love it now, and think it looks way better.

The third piece is a pair of earrings - .8ctw center stones, 5pt halos. From IDJ - stones all E VS2.

I'll have to break the photos up, since it's 3 different pieces, so here is the original ring - 2.4twc

PS Are you thinking of getting one? Your collection is so lovely and I can see your taste running to a cluster-style ring. Keep us informed!

Here's the SK ring before I switched out the diamond. There's a photo on my hand for perspective, one in the box, and a shot of it with the necklace. Pls forgive the truly lousy quality of these photos!

And here it is after I removed the diamond and added the sapphire. I've included one with my sapphire and diamond band; I don't wear them like this - the cluster alone is about 17mm across and the band is another 4 something-or-other ctw (5mm wide, maybe?). Just did it for the photo, and I have to say - I think they look smashing together! Unfortunately, I have chubby, stumpy fingers which are excellent for life in general, but an utter disaster for stacking or for big rings!

And last one! (Sorry about this - I'd have put them all in one post if they had fitted!) These are the earrings. I'm actually contemplating a larger pair in yellow gold for drops from a design Amy from DK did for me. We'll see - I have a bunch of projects for this year and don't see myself getting to that. The design is a pear stud with curved 'stem' drop with the occasional marquise diamond for 'leaves', then the cluster down the bottom. Wow - it looked so much better in the sketches than that sounds in print!!

Sorry to be a thread hog, but I hope you enjoyed them. :)

Wow, I just love the bling you both shared, thank you!

mrs-b, glorious clusters! Those rings, those earrings, that pendant. Swoon! Thank you so much for all the yummy eye candy. Yes, I would LOVE to get an antique cluster ring. I am thinking of an old mine cut as I love the more rectangular shape of the mine cuts with chunky old cuts around it but I have been searching high and low and nothing that is just right for me. Yet. I am patient. Well, not really but I am being patient about this particular bling project haha. One of my favorite vendors has a gorgeous cluster ring but it isn't large enough in diameter for me. I want it to be significantly larger than Bea who is about 10.5mm in diameter so am searching for one that is at least 14mm in diameter. If I ever find the perfect one for me I plan on wearing it on my right hand middle finger.

And please I love all the bling you so generously shared and I would love if you posted more yummy bling! Never apologize for sharing the bling love!

imdoubler, I am so glad you kept that gorgeous ring. It looks amazing on you and the proportions are so pleasing. Just beautiful! And I love it with your bands.

I hope other PSers will chime in and share their cluster bling.
Or I might have to do it for them... :Up_to_something: :naughty:

Hi Missy

I hope you find you perfect cluster soon. I totally understand when you say 'I am patient. Well, not really but I am being patient ...'. I have been through the same journey not long ago. Perfect antique cluster ring is hard to come across. I spent a few months search high and low and even consider custom route. I don't know what's your preference and your budget, but I have saved a few in my ETSY favorite and some are still available. I can share it with you if you interested

BTW, I believe RaiKai has a beautiful antique cluster ring with an OMC center. Hope she will chime in to post her precious in this thread.

Hi mrs-b
Cannot tell you how much I like your cluster with blue sapphire center. It is beyond gorgeous
I really like the look of it with the band. I will replicate a same set if I strike lucky in lotto someday :naughty: :naughty:

Me three! I've looked at so many over the past couple of years but I can never see one that is exactly what I'm looking for! Grace had a lovely cluster a few months back but it sold while I was dithering :wall:

I absolutely LOVE these! There is something so romantic about them

Imdoubler - just perfection. So glad you kept it.

I *almost* bought one from EBay for a bargain last year & husband had just given me the green light, when somebody hit the Buy It Now :(( It was a beautiful 1ctw OEC cluster with a platinum head in 18ct yellow gold. The seller was getting rid of all of his great grandmothers beautiful jewels & this was one in my price range. I still kick myself about this ring.

OMG I Love RaiKai's beautiful cluster ring. I hope she sees this thread and chimes in. I feel funny about posting other people's rings so waiting and hoping she will post.

Thank you for that generous offer imdoubler, and I bet we have the same rings saved LOL! We are PSers after all. 8)

I want a ring with a larger OEC or OMC and smaller surrounding old cuts. And it has to be at least 14mm in diameter for me so it looks substantially different than Bea in size. If you don't mind please contact me here because I would love to see if any of your saved rings are different than the ones I have in my wish lists. I still haven't found exactly the right antique cluster. But searching is a big part of the fun anyway!

Alex, Snowdrop, Tourmaline, yes they are so beautiful! We should all have one! :appl: And Alex, that is what draws me to them. Their romance and feminine beauty. They personify romance in a ring and when the proportions are right (and they are super chunky) it is pure poetry with diamonds and they make me swoon!

Please ladies, if you have a cluster ring, share with your PS sisters! :appl: :wavey:

Missy - just sayin'....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/GIA-1-71CT-ANTIQUE-VINTAGE-VICTORIAN-DIAMOND-CLUSTER-ENGAGEMENT-WEDDING-RING-18K-/152413992101?hash=item237c94f4a5:g:mad:UQAAOSwXeJYIM2f

Depending on how much trouble you want to go to, this could be a good way of getting a set of surrounding diamonds. The center stone can always be sold on, a new one picked up, and the whole thing re-set.

Or do you want genuine and untouched? This one is 12.3mm across - so not quite big enough. But there's got to be one out there...

But then there's this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-74CT-ANTIQUE-VINTAGE-OLD-EURO-DIAMOND-CLUSTER-ENGAGEMENT-WEDDING-RING-14K-YG-/142267367637?hash=item211fcbc0d5:g:c0sAAOSwo4pYbWNF

It's over 15 mm across, so it should cut the mustard. Nice center stone, too!

This is kinda awesome, too, tho it's a very specific sort of shape and not to everyone's taste. A reset into something like imdoubler's setting would soften the very pronounced 'daisy' look of it.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-Old-Mine-Cut-Diamond-Cluster-Engagement-Ring-/272487201041?hash=item3f7180b911:g:LyMAAOSw5cNYUxUO

But I'm guessing you're looking for something like *this*? - which is the holy grail of cluster rings, imo. I remember the write up when the link still worked, and I believe it *was* an OMC. I can't find the original post anymore, though, to check, and this photo makes the center stone look very round. Other photos, though, made it look less so.

That cluster was the one that made me want one. It was sold before I ever saw it. Swoon!

I'm actually thinking of re-setting my old engagement diamond into a cluster pendant just like the one M-2B has. I've looked at Whiteflash (no luck) and Brian Gavin has a nice halo pendant, but it's not what I want. I specifically want the scalloped-edge look, with metal round the edges and the center diamond to be bezeled, too - the look that M2B has is where my heart lies! I think the halo made of larger diamonds |(as opposed to pave) and the lacy scallop look is so pretty and vintage-y. My diamond is 0.80 and I'm happy with the cut/sparkle.

Does anybody know a good vendor who does settings like this?

Thanks!

Love the new additions! LaurenK your cluster rings are beautiful! Thank you for sharing!

Mrs-B we both have share the same great taste haha and thank you for taking the time to help me in my search! I have had all those rings saved albeit on a different site(s). And I have spoken with all the vendors of the rings you linked. The 1.71 center stone isn't large enough compared to the side stones (for me) and the proportion is a bit off. I love the overall size of the 5.74 and the center diamond is a good size in relation to the side diamonds but I don't love the cluster design and I am worried about the clarity of the center diamond. Not GIA rated and it's an SI2.

And I love the rings on Romanov and already chatted with them regarding a few of their cluster rings. So far nothing that fits the bill for me. But a few have come close. One of them not linked here was very high on my possible list but I am leaning against it. I am waiting for the HG of cluster rings.

I so appreciate you taking the time to search and please don't hesitate to continue because you and I have very similar taste and while I have been doing what I thought was an exhaustive search I am pretty sure I am missing some of the options as I dont know all the online sites...or do I? LOL there must be more antique dealers of jewels out there. Plus a few I have spoken with told me they get antique cluster rings in all the time so that gives me hope!

Jambalaya, there are a number of vendors I think could make a beautiful cluster for you using your old cut diamond. The few that pop to my mind are Erika Winters, Caysie van Bebber and David Klass but I know I am leaving out a number of vendors who could make a great setting for you. I hope others chime in for you.

Thank you, Missy! I might not have thought of those. I'm sure Brian Gavin could do it but I think he's be way out of my price range.

My ring is an AGS 000 MRB, so it's a fabulous cut. My other option for an optimal cluster would be to collect around six-eight of the BGD melee stones, approx 0.25, and then have someone like Klass make the piece. That way, each diamond would be the highest quality.

Hmm. Food for thought.

Thanks again!

These are all just gorgeous!!

Lauren, I consider your beautiful rings to have halos. To me, a cluster ring is when the center stone is smaller and the surrounding stones are much larger than a typical halo. In a halo, the center stone is much larger than the halo stones which are small. I consider the Lang ring a halo, as well.

I agree on your description but I think the Lang ring is borderline. The surrounding diamonds are somewhat bigger than a typical halo. Regardless it is still gorgeous.

I love imboubler's ring. I've stared at pictures of her Camellia many times.

I had a very pretty typical early 80's cluster but traded it in because of a nickel allergy. I wistfully still think of this ring.

Yes, the Lang ring is more borderline, I agree. Even though the halo stones are slightly larger than the typical halo, the center is still signficantly larger than the halo stones. That's what I was going on. Regardless, it is a beautiful ring, as you said!

I love imdoubler's and mrsb's rings, too!!!!

Missy -

My HG cluster ring is an AVC (ratio 1.00 - 1.02 at the most) surrounded by AVR's. 2ct center and 10 surrounding stones - not sure what ctw they would need to be, but I suspect about 18 pts each. Roughly 15mm across. G-I color, in platinum.

Can. You. Imagine??

(Where's the 'I died' emoji??)
