i just bought a superbcert (i'll post the specs later), and it looks great! I will be going to the store to compare it to a H&A Aglaia diamond (this is $2k more expensive and smaller). I was wondering where I could find a good independent appraiser in the Baltimore-DC area, and if the value usually ends up double the purchase price, esp for Superbcert. And for my own reference thanks |

Oops, I forgot to copy down the dimensions of the thing, but basically it was a: 0.861ct/VS2/F Superbcert for $4500. A few days ago, i plugged in the #'s and got a 1.5 or 1.2 TIC on the HCA. I went to compare this thing to the Aglaia, and it appeared pretty similar in terms of the sparkle (the superbcert had a little more brilliance). The 2k difference in price was the biggest difference Thanks for the info on the appraisers. Are the appriasals supposed to come up to double the price? So my rock should get appraised for 9k? I was wondering about that stuff. I called one insurance company and they said the premium for diamond insurance was 1%/year. is this right? Thanks, |

Your appraisal should be for the cost to replace the stone in the market in which you shopped. An inflated appraisal will only cost you more in insurance premiums. |

As far as appraisals go, do a search here for insurance and Chubb. You have to know the difference between companies that will replace the stone with what they see as similar enough and an agreed value policy as offered by Chubb. I lost my first engagement ring after almost 10 years...it happens! It may cost more, but Chubb will give you the cash value of the amount for which you insured your ring and then you can spend the money as you see fit. Actually, where I live, Chubb was much cheaper than Jeweler's Mutual or a rider on my homeowner's policy, which are both replacement policies. This is not the case in areas where the cost of living/crime rate is higher. Still, it would be worth it to get an estimate from Chubb. You can find an agent at www.Chubb.com [This message has been edited by lawmax (edited 08-24-2001).] |

For branded H&A diamond in the internet the price is pretty standard i.e. reasonable. For the mall store it would be a great deal The point is: this is the highest quality product. Enjoy your diamond and let us know about experienece with appraiser. [This message has been edited by leonid (edited 08-24-2001).] |

Is there a good place where I go to go to get the diamond set? (in the Baltimore/DC area)? Is it feasible for me to buy a band over the net and then just bring it with the diamond to the store? How much does this typically cost? thanks |
