I'm looking into a solitaire setting for a 1c princess cut engagement ring. I'm debating between white gold and platinum. Can you guys please tell what is the major difference between them, and if it is worthy paying an extra $200 for the platinum setting.
Thank you

I'm NOT an expert by any means, but platinum is about twice as dense as gold. Therefore it takes a lot more weight of platinum to make the same size ring. And platinum costs more per gram, ounce etc than gold. Almost twice as much. So my NON EXPERT opinion is that only $200 more sounds reasonable. Platinum does not tarnish and has a lot of "heft" due to its density. I have a 29.3 g platinum wedding band and I am quite pleased with it.
