I recently inherited my grandmother's platinum engagement ring. She purchased it about 45 years ago from an estate so I don't know how old it is. She said that it was a miner's cut, and that the jeweler who checked it each year had wanted to buy it from her. That is all that I know about it. I would like to take it in to have the setting checked and have the diamond appraised. I am a little worried about this since I don't know a thing about the diamond and wouldn't know the difference if someone switched stones. Any advice? |

You can send it by FedEx to David Atlas, Accredited Gem Appraisers, www.gemappraisers.com . David is well known expert in diamonds and in old miner cut in particular. He posts here as Oldminer. There will be no risk that the diamond could be switched. |

You are welcome to send it to me, but you sure could contact Joe Mackley at the company with his name located right in Knoxville. He is a very good gemologist and appraiser and deals in estate items. I am sure he would not switch a diamond, either. Mackley & Co. is the name of his firm. ------------------ |
