Hi Everyone,

Firstly i've got to thank everyone participating on pricescope for sharing their knowledge, advice and stories! I'm on the hunt for a quality emerald cut diamond and i've been trying to educate myself as much as i can as to how i can identify one. I've read the posts and articles available and i've tried to absorb as much as i can without losing my mind and my eyesight. I realise that step cuts have their own set of intricacies and i don't expect to reach anywhere near the level of expertise available here on pricescope.

As such, i would greatly appreciate advice on some of the diamonds i've been looking at. Here are 2 candidates that i think are pretty good quality ... appreciate any thoughts on them.

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/5176
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/5175 *i'm pretty concerned about the inclusion on this one, otherwise i think its the better of the 2? But i'm no expert, appreciate one's opinion.

Hope to get some help from you guys!!

Thank you!!

Inclusion shouldn't be an issue.
Have Sarah check it for you.

Between the 2 I slightly like the first on better in the regular picture and the second in the ASET.
I would have Sarah and Jon pick a favorite and go with that one.

Welcome!

I really like the look of the first one,  but they both look nice -  ask the GOG team to do a comparison for you and advise as to which might be the most suitable, the inclusion shouldn't be an issue but check with them to be sure.

Thanks Karl! I know you're one of the authorities on step cuts here, definatley value your comment. So you think the p3 angles on these ones are 'acceptable'?

The last one looks ok so far for a large tabled EC. but to me a large tabled EC does not show the true potential of an EC.
Some people do love the classic look and if they pick them in person then that is kicken.

Thanks for that! Could you show me sample images of a diamond that you think exemplifies the true potential of an EC? I would really like to understand that better.

For that last one, i won't be able to see it in person... do you suggest i not consider/risk it then?

The table is at 64%. They didn't have the info on the crown height though.

patterns look pretty good it would depend on the crown height if I would consider it.
Something in the pictures looks off so I'm wondering if the crown height is low.
It might just be the pictures.

Guys, the time has come for me to make my decision. I've been looking around but the 3 emerald cuts i showed you guys above are my favorites. So, thought i'll get some final input from your guys. Which would you pick?

Option 1 (on the left) & Option 2 (on the right)

*these are the ones from gog (Karl, fyi... sarah prefers option 1 and jon option two :p)

Just to my eyes in that particular pic, I like option #1 best but they are both lovely EC's!  Stormy should be along presently!

If it was for me ( alas not) then I would probably still go with option 1, but I think you have three lovely EC's to choose from!  Which one are you leaning towards?

Thanks Lorelei! Haha, if i were a rich man i would buy you one for all your help :)

As to which one i'm leaning towards... I really can't decide at this point! Everyone has been really helpful and gog even did a short video to help me decide between the two!

http://www.vimeo.com/2289599

They all have different characters, i think option 3 is more similar to option 2 in that they have more depth and thus better scintilation. But i think fire and scintilation isn't what draws people to emerald cuts, for me i think its the cut's elegance and simplicity and those bright flashes (i think the tecnical term is brillance) it puts out when it catches the light!

And in that sense i think option 1 has more of that classic appeal. So yeah, the answer is i don't know yet :)

But i'm definately working hard to find out!!

* blush* you are too kind!!!

I watched the video and still liked the first one best, what a difficult choice, both beautiful!  But I must say when watching the video the first diamond won by a neck - its a close race for me!
