My setting will have a surprise diamond but I am not sure what to go with.  I can't choose between pink or white or another color.  Would a heart shape be a little too tacky?  Should I go with rose gold instead of platinum around the surprise diamond?  Is the price premium for a pink diamond worth it especially for a surprise diamond?  Would it make more sense to get a pink sapphire if it is cheaper?

All suggestions welcomed!

Hi Charmypoo!  I voted for pink round diamond with rose gold.

I must caution though, that I'm not sure what your setting looks like or how big the surprise diamond is.

With pinks, in certain lights they look quite pale, especially when they're in the surprise diamond size range.

If you really want the color to pop I would go with a yellow round set in yellow gold.  The yellows I've seen (ok, fine, I am takling about my own ring) show a lot more color than the pinks, and my pinks are "intense" pinks.

ETA - Pink melee (sp), from what I've read is on the order of 5 times more expensive than white melee, but since it's a small diamond the difference won't be more than a couple of hundred dollars.

I don't have all the details but I know it will be based on the Daniel K Split Crown.  There will be no halo - it was vetoed.  We have no sketches of the design.

Bgray - Here you go.  I am not sure what will be changed but my boyfriend does want to keep the surprise diamond there.  We had a bunch of other ideas but the designer wasn't big on it and said it can't be done.

do you want the surprise stone inside the band or on the side of the basket?  i understand --you want it to be truly your own  (it might be pretty to put it in the top stone of the bridge that goes up to the point)   Pretty mounting by the way--love it!

Make mine a VS Fancy Intense round pink set in platinum.

...what you should get really depends on what the specs of the choices are. If the choice is between a 0.05 SI2 light pink and something nice in white, it's no contest.

charmypoo:  will your band be all white?  does the surprise stone color matter at all?  meaning does it have to match anything?  if not-what about a brilliant blue sapphire as your surprise--something borrowed something blue.....................

I boxed in what I am referring to as the surprise diamond - am I using the right teminology?

The e-ring band will be all white although I do have temptations of adding rose gold somewhere.  I am pretty sure the bf will be against it though.

I am debating if I want a rose gold and pink diamond wedding band.

i think so..............?  i am sure its a flexible term.  i see-- i thought that might be a good spot too.  i think a heart shape would be to use your term perhaps a little tacky.

I just re-read your first post and i dont think a white diamond would really be a "surprise".........it wouldnt really be noticeable.  i would do blue or yellow..........

Won't that little stone be covered up by any band you wear with the ring?  I like the idea of doing it in rose gold with a pink diamond, but I wonder if you'll even be able to see it and therefore wonder if it'd be worth the potential extra cost.  I tried to do a mock up for you, but the stone is so tiny it was hard.  Perhaps this will be enough of a visual. LOL

I say go for the sapphire if you want pink.  IMO you might not see it, and it's not worth the extra cost.  Something to consider, they may not cut heart shaped stones that small, at least that's what they told me when I asked for a heart shaped blue sapphire for my surprise stones in my custom setting (which I didn't end up getting btw)  If you want to incorrporate hearts, and option is heart shaped prongs.  Like this

Thanks for all your suggestions and the mock-up!  It's wonderful.

1 - My boyfriend confirmed that tiny pink heart shape diamonds don't exist or are hard to come by (so that's a no)
2 - Yes, it will be covered by the wedding band on one side but not the other side.  Either way, I still want it :P if it doesn't cost that much more.
3 - I do like the pink sapphire but I am wondering if it is too intense.  The blue sapphire is tempting as well.
4 - I am completely stuck on the double claw prongs so I won't be considering anything else.  The heart prongs can look beautiful if done properly (like by MVM) but they often look too bulky for my liking.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions!!  You ladies are wonderful.

I vote for a pink sapphire or diamond with plat if you are not planning on incorporating rose gold into your band. I vote for the rose gold setting if you are creating a band with rose gold in it. If you are -- look into pink pave (diamond) or pink sapphires -- in your band design. It will carry the surprise theme through -- I'm assuming you will have 2 surprises, one on each side of the head, so you will see one while the band hides the other -- and give the colors some unity. If you want all plat for your set, I would go with plat setting in the surprise stones as well, and still consider a splash of pink somewhere on your band. Or get a stacker that's all pink (I've seen some super cute channel set pink sapphire bands that are around 2 mm).
