My FFI and I are looking for the right e-ring. We'd like something that is elegant and classic but also feels a little modern as I'm 27 We thought that a halo style may be a nice balance, but it looked too "mature" and flashy on me, which saddens me since I like halos, as you can see by my name So halos are a no-go.

So far most of the styles that are defined as "elegant" by stores, either online or B&M, have had a very "80s" vibe or seemed overly mature. I feel that there must be more elegant, classic styles than we've been able to find on our own, and I thought that if anyone could show me some beautiful styles it would be fellow PSers

Here is the style we like so far:

We also like this ring, which is very similar to the first photo (this 2nd ring is from guywithring):

Here's mine. Nothing fancy-- just a plain solitaire-- but I sure do love it! I don't know that it's modern, but it does feel elegant. I'm 27 too!

another view. I'm guessing you don't want a solitaire though. I do really like the cushion one you posted.

What a pretty ring:) I love the arrows too! Mind if I ask what the specs are? It looks really big on your hand! I tried on some solitaires but my BF really wants it to have side stones for some reason.

I'm loving the cushion too!

Thank you! It's a 1.35 H VS2 on a size 5.25 ring. My fiancee wanted sidestones too, but then he saw how excited I was when I tried on my first cathedral setting. It just looked so nice, I was almost as excited about the setting as I was about the diamond, and then he didn't bring up sidestones anymore.

No wonder it looks so big! It's lovely. I tried on one like that and my BF really liked it and thought that it would suit me, but when we saw the price he knew that he couldn't afford it and felt that a smaller center stone with sidestones would be a better option that would make a smaller center appear larger.

Here is mine..a cathedral mount (smiliar to Kelli's), however mine is a 1.76 carat, on a size 6.5 finger. I can't believe how big yours looks on your small finger Kelli !('tis why I want to change my setting, really make that diamond POP)!!
The best thing about a simple gold mount..is it never goes out of style, and you can pair it with pretty much any band you like!!

An example of changing it up, playing with different bands, the possibilities are endless (I love finding new diamond bands to wear with my solitaire)
This was when my diamond was set in a four prong head, which I recently changed. (kept the same setting)

Beautiful ring beau, may I ask the dimensions on your ring, cause it looks bigger than 1.76ct.  WOW.

Thanks!
I think it looks smaller than 1.76, since the setting is about 4.5mm wide, and very thick!
The diamond measures 7.7mm in diameter. Held next to a 2 carat round I seen (8mm I believe)..I really couldn't see a difference!!

Your diamond is on a 4.5mm band, I would not have guessed that, wow, I love it.  Mine is only on a 3.5mm and I will agree with it does look more like a 2ct.  I personally would not change your setting.  From the pics I have seen Your Diamond POPS.

Thanks Buffy..when I do change it ..it will likely be a halo. I will never upgrade my diamond..so when shrinkage really sets in...I think a HALO will make it look bigger!

Beau if you ever do set your stone in a halo, please post it after it's done, cause sometimes I think about setting my 1.52 in a halo but am nervous about it being too much, and where your ring is bigger than mine, if yours comes out looking not too much then I just might do it myself.  I don't think I have seen on this sight anyone who has set a 1.50 to 2.00 rb in a halo, only the 3ct and above rb's which is way too much for me.

Really? I thought for sure there would have been halo's with the 1.50-2 carat diamonds. I agree 3 ct. or greater in a halo? Uh..OVERKILL!! Not my cup of tea!!
I would surely post pics, if/when I have it reset (if I'm still around these boards then..lol)

Hi Halo!

I was also looking for a classic and elegant engagement ring.  I have very simple and modern taste and I fell in love with the tapered baguette style.  I think the baguettes add something really nice to the ring and still bring a lot of attention to the center stone - especially when they are long and thin.

I'm not sure if this is what you had in mind, but I thought I would share just in case!

I am having the setting custom made with a radiant center stone so I don't have it yet, but here are two of the rings I found and really liked (sorry, no pics to attach - hope the links work....)

There is a really nice ring in this thread - it's the 9th post I think:

I went through two settings... one with pave set diamonds on the sides which were constantly falling out even after having it redone, to this beauty.  In my opinion, its classy and simple.  It does sit low, but it pops.  And the ring is made for your diamond... so I think that makes it look bigger than it is.  My diamond is only a .63 !  Good luck in your decision... choose with your heart.

Thank you!

Halo.. here is a picture of my old pave setting (there were 72 little bitty diamonds)...this setting was nice.... but the new one is so much nicer.  The pave had lots of flash and lots of bling.  But, all I could ever see were the mistakes and missing diamonds and crooked settings.  I miss the bling "sometimes", but its much more important to not have to constantly inspect the ring for missing parts.

I was 27 when we were engaged, and hubby and I chose the ring together.

Mine's a 2.01 ct cushion, g SI1, in a shared-prong eternity band with 4-pointers.
I love it!

You're in a fun place because you have an excuse to go out and try on as many rings as you can find! I highly recommend it. :)

Here it is:

I don't have my completed ring yet (10 more days!!!), but this is the Ritani setting which I chose.  I think it's really classic & elegant & timeless.  This will be set with my 0.96 ct concave brilliant sapphire.
