It is hard to gauge because the only perspective a person can judge this is based on your thumb. We don't know the size of your thumb and I would defer to a pro like Garry but if this was a guessing contest I would say about 1.25 ct.

It definitely is bigger than 1 ct but less than 1.5 ct - hence 1.25 because it falls somewhere in teh middle.

Geez! I am impressed by the specificity of others' guesses! I had decided it was between 1 carat and 1.50 carats! I thought daring to guess that specifically was daring! (I mean, what is it was a 1.60?) Also: I disagree that the hands are the only clue to the size. The band is also a clue.

I thought about 1.25cts. Are you looking to buy something of that size & need some opinions?

Okay, I'll play. My guess is 1.22 ctw. And I'm guessing the colour is a G or an H.

1.43?

If we get it right, do we win the ring?

My guess is that the picture was taken in the land of the little people, this particular Umpaloompa has amazingly small hands and while the stone looks very imposing on this Size .25 ring its probably only about a .2 ct.

The box is there only to confuse the contestant.

Guessing the shoulder of the shank is about 2.25mm I would have to guess the diamond is about 1.12 carat.

Cheers,
Steve

I guess I have to come clean... that guess was not off the top of my head. I did a quick search on your username and found an old post of yours talking about the diamond you were going to buy.

Wow that stone looks much bigger! Is the band very thin (e.g. 2mm)? Are the hands holding it very small? Tricky tricky!!

Not only must the hand holding it be small, the finger of the intended must be even smaller/thinner.

By no stretch of the imagination is my fingers big, but my wife's 1.04 ct diamond does not look that big when put next to my thumb.

I guess, cameras' also put extra weight on diamonds.

Bummer. I should have submitted my guess before I read through the thread. Finchuck, you told us too soon! I was all ready to guess 1 carat because, when I hold my .7 the same way it looks like yours is about 1/3 bigger in diameter, or about 7.57 mm. Still, if you hadn't told us, I might have been swayed to guess higher by all the experts saying 1.25 or bigger. It's a beauty! Congrats. Tell us ALL about it!

HA! I was just looking at some 1 carat prices, and realized I remembered the standard for 1 carat diameter wrong! Just goes to show ignorance can make for unexpectedly decent guesses. If I'd bothered to check the numbers I guess I'd have guessed closer to 1.5. We need an embarrassed smiley face.
