Assuming (yes, big assumption) 2 identical round ideal cut H&A stones, VS2, ideal symmetry and polish, same price, etc... Which stone would you recommend? Carat 1.18, Color D Carat 1.30, Color G Thanks, JorgeP

---------------- Providing they were both graded by reputable labs (AGS, GIA, etc.)....I'd go with the G *all day long*! Why pay a premium (and sacrifice size) for something that your unaided eye won't see? _____________________ |

Hi Jorge! I'm, as usual, with Al. If the cut is *really* excellent on both, I'd get the 1.30ct one. In fact, I may even consider a nice H&A 1.50 H-I/SI 1. With a great cut (and maybe slight fluorescence) it will appear just as white as most G's.

Assuming all else being equal - go with size.

I agree with the others..go with the G. i used to think colorless range as well, until i learned about the importance of cut from the good folks here on this forum...with the well cut G..you have nothing to worry about... yeah to the larger size too.. good luck! ![]() ![]()

Seems like there should be a a larger spread of carat weight between the D & G color. I suppose the 1.25 mark drives this stone up substantial. I'd opt for something shy of 1.5 in the H range. And, going against my usual thought process - I'd seriously consider the D. Or go less expensive w/ a 1.18 G.

You'll be paying a good premium for the D, for something that you can't see -- it's just more rare. Go with the G, or if you are relly color sensitive, keep looking for e-f stones. You should be albe to increase you bang for your buck size-wise, and still have a colorless looking stone.

G hands down. Some say you might not notice any difference between the 1.18 & the 1.30, but I'm telling you from a female perspective, you CAN. ![]() ![]() Judy :-)

I'm with the crew on this one - go with the G, or go to H and go bigger.

The D, hands down Diameter of the 1.18 should be about about 6.95. Diameter of the 1.30 should be about about 7.10. Area of the 1.18 = (pi)(r)(r) = 37.92 sq mm Area of the 1.30 = 39.57 sq mm Visually, the 1.30 will look only 4.35% larger. Go with the D. You'll have a premium cut and a premium color. |

I'd probably recommend the G since most people can't tell the difference, BUT, if my husband was letting me decide, I'd go with the D. I have one of each and my D is just too gorgeous for words At any rate, I'm really tiny and wouldn't want a 1.3 carat diamond. Too big and flashy for my taste. Michelle

I love color (or lack of), so I would buy the D. On the other hand my wife would pick the G so quick I wouldn't be able to voice my 2 cents
Cheers, |
