Reappraisal...

When my fiancee proposed, he had given me this amazing diamond in a plain white gold setting (he had a feeling I would want to pick my own band out).  As soon as we were engaged, we went out together & I picked out my dream band - but not from the same jeweler that he had purchased the diamond from.  After 5 weeks the band was ready, and I had to turn over my diamond (which I had become so attached to) so that they could set it in the new band.  For 5 days I fretted over the safety of my diamond, even though it was a very reputable jeweler that we had purchased the band through.  When I finally picked the finished ring up, I looked at it through a loupe for the inclusions that were on my certificate, but since I am not a jeweler, and didn't really KNOW what I was looking for, I still had this worry that the diamond had been switched or damaged in some way.  Because of this, and because I needed to get it appraised for insurance reasons anyway, I went out the next day & had it appraised.  I chose an appraiser that was recommended by the AGL, and that would appraise it right in front of me.  When that was done, then I was able to breath a sigh of relief.  Even though I was sure it was our diamond before the appraisal & it looked as flawless to me as ever (I mean a mother knows her baby!) I still felt better knowing that in independant 3rd party agreed that it was the diamond that my love had picked out for me, and it hadn't been scratched or chipped.

If you have concerns, it couldn't hurt to have someone check it out.  I sure felt better afterwards.
