I am so confused and at the same time disappointed.
I saw an eightstar diamond at one jewelry store and was absolutely in love with it. The fire and brilliance that came out of that stone were totally beautiful. At that time I was not ready to buy one. Well, I now have the opportunity to buy an eightstar, but was also able to go to another jewelry store to view it. When the jeweler showed me the stone, it didn't have the same fire and brilliance as the other stone at the other store. These two stones were comparable in size, the only difference being is the clarity and color grade which were very close. The stone I was shown did not appeal to me like the other stone did,it did not even come close. I thought all eighstars were cut the same and would all look the same. Am I missing something? Has anyone had this experience before? Should I ask my jeweler to get another eightstar? Any comments would be appeciated.

thank you.

Are you sure it couldn't have been a difference in the lighting situation?

I had better lighting in the second store. The first store had o.k. lighting, but we also took the stone outside and compared it to a Kaplan stone and the eightstar looked better. Also, I thought the eightstar performed well under any lighting situation, am I wrong? I just could not understand why the second stone did not have the same brilliance or sparkle as the first stone.

thank you for taking the time to respond.

It could have been the lighting, even though the 2nd lighting seemed better. Some jewelry stores don't seem all that bright inside (like from white flourescent lighting), yet have lighting that favors fire etc.

Next time you're in Tiffany's take a gander at the ceiling, it's literally covered in tiny little spotlights, many poiting at the countertops, so the store isn't overly bright like daylight, but the lighting is strategically placed to show off the goods.

Then again, maybe you just saw a lesser performing 8*. Even if stones have the same exact numbers doesn't always mean they'll perform the same, or at least that's what many say.

Good luck in your search.

Wow, I didn't know there are lesser performing 8*?? Since they are suppose to be all cut the same, I just assumed that they would all perform the same. Now I'm really confused, because that is what attracted me to the 8* to begin with was to take the guess work out of picking the ideal diamond. I thought the 8* was suppose to be the perfect cut, guess I was wrong.
thanks, for your response.

Very interesting point...I too thought 8*s were supposed to all be 'cream of the crop' and that is why there are so few of them out there (well in reality theyprobably just release them slowly to keep demand from outstripping supply, but whatever!).

SteveL is an 8* dealer I think...he posts here...maybe he can chime in and give his 2 cents on 8*s and why these two may seem so different.

I don't think it was the lighting as you noted you took the stones outside to view in sunlight and other types of light..and compared against another stone.

You may try to get your jeweler to bring in another 8* and see if maybe that one speaks to you more clearly. Can you bring in the one you looked at before? Is it still available?
