"De Beers has suspended all exploration in Venezuela after the government canceled a technical cooperation agreement without explanation, reports Reuters. The scientific and technical agreement the company had with Ingeomin, part of the Energy and Mines Ministry, was unexpectedly cancelled at the end of July, leaving "no legal protection for De Beers to continue its activities," according to one source. This is only the latest in a series of government clampdowns on gold and diamond concessions during the past few weeks. De Beers had been prospecting in Venezuela since 1997." ---------------------------------------------------- To you experts here on Pricescope... what do you think this means for getting rough out of there? On one hand since De Beers pulled out I thought the 'other guys' could have better control of rough prices there... but then when the article says the govt is clamping down, I don't know what to make of that... -NB333
