So, now that I have finally come to terms with trying dresses on (thank you all for your help here), I figured it was time to try to find dresses I like to figure out where to go shopping. I have fallen in love, love, love with the Vineyard Jules (see it in action here). However, no where in my state has it in stock. One salon could bring it in for $300. I would have to be sure it was 'the dress' before I did this, because that $300 would come out of my already limited dress budget. And, because of the unique style, it is unlikely that I could even try on a similar gown to get a sense of whether I like it on me as much as I like it on their model. My questions for you: 1. What do you think of the dress for a bride who wants something stylish, modern, and (most importantly) non-traditional? 2. Is $300 reasonable to bring a dress in? (i.e. would you consider it)? 3. Do you think this style would be complementary to someone who is short (5'3") and not super thin (street size 6) and large-chested? All other feedback is welcome, too!

Ooh, what a cool dress! I definitely think it fits a "stylish, modern, and non-traditional" look. What type of fabric is it made from? Nevermind, just saw from the site that it's silk & cotton :) I'm not sure, though, how it would look on a shorter person with the tie at the waist (not a problem for a 5'9 model, but it could appear to cut your figure in half if you're more vertically challenged). Also $300 just to bring in a dress for you to try on is quite a fee! I don't know if I'd be willing to pay that myself. Would it be too far for you to drive to a neighboring state that might have a store that carries it?

In my experience with having a big chest, I know that I personally cannot pull off this dress and I am 5'1" also. Just my two cents. the big chests tend to make dresses like this look strained in the middle

I am 5'3" and size 8 and have a "moderate" chest (moderate means non-existent)...I know I could pull off this dress. Whoever wears this has to wear the dress and not let it wear them. If you are confident in the dress, you will look beautiful! This is a very modern style (yet, if you think about it - very classic as well) If you are certain this is the style you want, I'd go for it, personally - I don't know of any other dresses in that style... Ditto Newbie's suggestion on maybe taking a day/weekend trip to a neighboring state or larger city - to simply try on a dress for $300 is a bit ridiculous.

Depending on where it is in stock, for 300 you could fly out there and try it on! I wouldn't pay $300 to get a dress in. I'd try to find an alternative. Goldenstar ( I believe) tried it on, and I loved it on her.

I wouldn't pay $300 to bring in a dress either. Too risky that it wouldn't look good on, and then that's money down the drain. To answer the other question, I'm not sure that particular dress would be good for someone who is short.

How big is "large chested" if you don't mind me asking?

Hello! I tried this dress on and it is stunning! The salon I went to did not have it in stock either BUT they brought it in without charge. I would not pay $300 to bring in a gown. That's a lot, and you're right, it would definitely cut into the dress budget. At a size 6, YOU ARE SLIM! I'm 5'4" and between 2 to 4, and 34B bust. I think this dress would be great for large chests because it provides excellent coverage and you can wear any supportive bra that you like. Here is the dress on me so that you can see it on a real person. I forgot what size the sample was but it was huge on me. It was clipped in the back. ![]()

Yeah, the cotton and silk is part of why I love it so much! I have been thinking about going to Chicago to see some friends, so maybe this is the motivation I need to go.

Crew Daphne, but there is just no way that I could pull off those buttons without gaping. (Oh, and FI said "That's a real pretty dress for an Amish woman." about the Daphne). ![]()

Thanks, Cleopatra, Gypsy, and Marchswallowbird. Out of curiosity, I checked flights, and it is cheaper to go to Boston for the night than bringing the dress to Ohio. Plus, if it didn't work out, it would lower my dress budget by about 15%. And, Freke, I'm a 34D. Not super huge, but it does make buying certain clothing styles difficult.

This totally reaffirmed my love for the dress. You look fabulous in it! I understand why you decided to go with something else (just went back and read your dress-hunting posts), but you look are totally rocking this dress! And, it is very exciting to me that you are 5'4"! THANKS! ![]()

katamari, I love this dress and will envy the bride who wears it at her wedding! I'm sure you won't have any chest issues with this one. Alterations will ensure that the bust fits properly and they can add a hook and eye to the V neck so that it doesn't open up when you move.

I'm a 34/36 DD, so I feel your pain. I think you should fly out to Chicago, if you've been meaning to go already, and try it on. I think it'll work just fine with your body shape.

I love that dress. It was one of my favorites when I went looking. My only problem with it was I felt a little like I looked like I could be getting married at work. I guess it just reminded me of something I would choose for work, on the top of course. I would not pay anything to have it brought in though...I think that is actually terrible. I would either make a trip to Chicago like you planned and actually go to the POB store or find another store willing to bring it in free of charge especially if you purchase it.

That's a beautiful dress!! Like others, I wouldn't pay that much money to bring it into the shop. That night in Boston sounds like it would be good fun! I can't wait to hear how you get on when you try it!
