I am getting engaged over thanksgiving and have a budget of about $3k. I think I definitely want platinum and I think I can get almost a carat of a good diamond. Questions: 1.) Any word on www.affinitydiamonds.com? This is where I think I may have found "the one" 2.) Does this deal sound too good to be true? GIA Certified .93 carat I color SI2 73.4 Depth 77 Table Premium Cut $2026 I'm by no means a diamond expert....but the best I can do locally is: .9 carat I color SI2 75 depth 76 Table Good Cut $2300 Can I feel safe and secure buying the ring online, I know they have a 30 day return and I will get it appraised. I will also avoid sales tax. Is it worth paying the extra cash to get it locally where she can get it cleaned etc....? Thanks, Brandon |

Kos, are these princess stones? Very deep and very big tables, too much to be round.

I apologize....yes the diamonds are Princess cuts. Any input would be greatly appreciated as a purchase of this importance is getting me a little nervous. Thanks

I am by no means an expert either but your 'premium cut' stone doesn't sound too premium. The table is quite large. Experts who frequent this site prefer a table smaller than the depth by around 5%. Peronally, I wouldn't buy a princess as deep as either of these. You are sacrificing spread needlessly. Have you checked out any of the other online diamond retailers people have raved about here? Also, don't let something cleaning & maintenance effect your purchase. Any jeweler will steam clean your ring or check your prongs for free- whether you have purchased from them or not. Best of luck! I was told at the local establishment that I should look for Table and Depth percentages to be below 80%. I've never heard that the table should be 5% less than Depth, thank you for the info. Are you saying then that the diamond is too deep? Therefore wasting carat weight on depth and not viewable surface area? If that is the case, what carat weight (with the preferred proportions) would be perfect to A.) fit my budget and B.) still look about the same size (same surface area?). I am confused about table and depth b/c the tutorial focused on round cuts which I understand are a completely different ballgame. What should I be looking for? I used to be under the school of thought that as long as I got an: I or better SI2 or better good cut or better the diamond would be ok and go for the biggest carat size....but now understand that Cut may be most important.....I guess I'm looking for a diamond that will sparkle more, but w/out seeing them in person I need to know what proportions and %'s to look for b/c I want to buy it online. Thanks and I appreciate all input!

I would look for stones with 9% or higher crown height, depth between 65 and 75% and table between 58-70%. I found a few interesting stones... All with very nice make. I would consider even a 0.80 in order to get a better cut... A great cut smaller stone looks better (and probably larger) than a slightly larger, good or average cut diamond. ![]() This one looks really nice, a bit deep maybe, but it should be stunning. 0.84 G/SI 1 This one looks very beautiful too... 0.90 H/SI 1 Or this one... 0.83 H/SI 2 Have fun! ![]()
