Hello again,

I am writing this forum to give you guys an update on my situation. In my last post,I had my heart set on a whiteflash diamond to fulfill my desire for a VS,G stone at the very least. Since then I have decided I am not going to buy another diamond at all. I have a perfectly good VS1(2) F-G color sitting in a box collecting dust. It was my great great grandmothers. I never wanted to mess with it because it was hers. I was having a conversation with my grandmother a few days ago. She was very close with my Great Great grandmother in the few years before she past. My grandmother told me she would have wanted me to take her stone and make my rings, she would feel proud that they have made it down to me and she most definatly would not want me to leave them in a velvet box and take a peek every once in a while. So I made the decision to honor my G G grandmother and use her center stone. The stone is perfect for me in every way.

VS1 or VS2
F-G color (I have had an appraisal say VS2,G color.I have had many other gemologist look at it and say it might be better but confirm it is at least a VS2 and at least a G color but a lab from GIA or AGS will tell us for sure if its F or G VS1 or VS2. The report was $400 so we decided it wasn't that important to us to know if it was one grade higher.
.82 carat !!! (perfect size for me)

We were going to purchase the Tiffany knife edge sytle set from whiteflash. We found the exact same engagement ring and a band that matches but is not the same band from WF... at a local store. Much less money!!! WF without labor or tax would have been around 2,200 for the platinum and I had no idea who was going to se the diamond. This man gave us a price of 1,100 for the same rings including everything. The engagement ring is 2MM and the band is 3MM.
I loved it and the price was right. He also offerd to get $400 down then he will have the ring done by next week, come back whenever we have the rest. So I pick them up in 13 days when we get paid again yahooo!!! I post pictures as soon as I get them.

PS: The cut of my G G grandmothers stone is not as good as some of the modern RB cuts.It was cut in the 40's or 50's.For its time the cut is very good. The local man I am dealing with sells the eight star diamond.I did see a small differeance in his diamond and mine but really not that much!! I think her stone is very beautiful. I am very happy with my purchae and my current Leos are going to be made into a pendant.

will be back
Take Care
Sandra

I am very glad you are happy!

Nothing is more sacred as the bond between horse and rider...no other creature can ever become so emotionally close to a human as a horse. When a horse dies, the memory lives on because an enormous part of his owner's heart, soul, very existence dies also...but that can never be laid to rest, it is not meant to be...

That's such a great idea.

The stone may not be as well cut as today's peers, but just think about how special that ring will feel once you have it in your possession?

You have a great great grandmother who married in the 50's? Whoa, they all must have been very young brides.

What a nice treasure! I love heirlooms and how lucky for you to be able to know the exact wedding date of your GGGM. Enjoy your new rings and post pictures of when you get chance, pendant, too.

Oh, how wonderful! Please post pictures when you have the stone back in your position: the old cuts are just beautiful, and such a pleasure to ogle.

haha sorry I should have mentioned. My GG grandparents were married in the early 1900's but my GG grandpa was a fireman for the PA railroads and could never afford diamond rings. He gave them to her later in life when he made more money. For that time the rings are very high class. I have posted picture is a previous thread but here is a picture of before I took out the center stone. These are the original rings. I love the center stone.its .82 but even in person looks like a full carat.
