NYC Couple travels 9300 miles from India to vote

NEW YORK – A New York City couple has traveled halfway around the world in the name of civic duty.

Susan Scott-Ker and her husband arrived in New York on Wednesday after flying 9,300 miles to vote in Tuesday's presidential election.

They have been working India but decided to return to New York when their absentee ballots failed to arrive. Their trip began in Bangalore with stopovers in New Delhi and Chicago.

It will be their first time voting in a presidential election. The New Zealand-born Scott-Ker and her Morroco-born husband became American citizens a year ago.

They estimate the trip will cost $5,000.

Wow!  VERY impressive!  Good for them!

It's really a shame that there are some U.S. citizens who live right here in the U.S. and and just don't bother to vote.  What's their excuse?!?!

I'm not sure about the political set-up in Morocco (a constitutional hereditary monarchy, according to google which doesn't sound promising), when I visited I found the locals quite scared about being seen to be politically active or interested!

Perhaps the Moroccan half of this couple is interested in civic empowerment through voting?

Found this interesting article about Moroccan democracy movement, through the eyes of a US voter: linky

Of course, becoming part of a new society via citizenship is exciting, I would like to participate in a ballot as well. I love being able to vote!

For a non-swing state vote, it's interesting.  Are we sure that was their sole motivation?  If so, ROCK ON!

I was surprised to discover that hundreds of people were moving from California to Colorado and Nevada in order to influence the swing states.  That's impressive as well.
