It's time to choose our honeymoon destination, but I'd (we'd) like some input. We have narrowed in down to three choices, but we're up for more options. If you have any suggestions about the places let me know! We don't have a huge budget, but we have plenty of frequent flier miles to get us most anywhere, but we need to stay in the states (or very close to). At the three places we've talked about, we haven't really talked accommodations, so suggestions are appreciated!

Hmmmm I voted for Oregon...but that's because the other places seem more touristy to me and Oregon seems more romantic. What part of the country are you from? And what are you looking for? I can think of some great other places too but not sure if they'd meet what you are looking for.

We will be getting married in North Mississippi and flying from Memphis, TN. Ideally we want somewhere where we can do some outdoor activities, but we like museums and historic things also. We don't really want to go to a crowded beach and prefer smaller towns, even if outside a bigger city. ETA: We will be going in May, if that makes a difference. ______________________________ |

I voted for the Oregon coast also. Fi and I are from so cal and we have done the trip up the 1 from Los Angeles all the way to Canada 4 times. We see something new every time, and I must say the oregon coast is our favorite great b&bs boutiques that sort of thing. They also have really cool modern hotels in the portland area(tons to do there if you like food/art/music)Theyve also got a great wine area depending on how far inland you will be going, oh yeah and good camping in some areas on the coast although Im not sure what time of year you are going.oh yes and if you choose Oregon do try and get down to Bandon(near Ca border) it is absolutely lovely there.(and if you have a thing for cranberries this would be the place to stock up on cranberry EVERYTHING even bbq sauce teehee)

I drove down the Oregon coast once, and it was so foggy and rainy that we couldn't see any views. Keep this in mind...also keep in mind that in summer it is CROWDED with others doing the same thing. I didn't like it. It seemed like we were stuck in the car too much.

Hey! How come Niagara Falls isn't getting any love???? Okay so I am from Buffalo,NY (right next to NF) and I voted for Oregon! I just think it's more unique! But if you are thinking of going to the falls May should be a nice time to go there. Well if you like history, there is a lot of history there, but it is very touristy. It also doesn't have a small town feel to it, very developed. That is of course if you are talking about the Canadian side, which you should be because the American side is terrible without even a good view of the falls. There is a pretty new casino in ontario if you are into that (and a couple in NY but IMO aren't as nice). I've only stayed at the Hilton there (well besides sleazy motels that we used to stay in when we were 19 and legal to drink in Canada!) but I thought the Hilton was pretty nice. You can get a room with a view of the Falls, but there are a few hotels there with that option. If you like Buffalo wings, you can go to the Anchor Bar in Buffalo where they were invented. Oh and it's probably like 2 hours away but a really pretty park is Letchworth State Park http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Letchworth_State_Park Which based on your description might be worth the visit.

Well in that case I'll put in a plug for the Berkshires in Massachusetts. Lots of adorable bed and breakfasts to stay in, lots of art/history, and beautiful hiking trails and scenery. And May is before the big tourist season hits so you I am sure you could get a decent deal on hotels, etc.

Huge ditto to the San Juan Islands! We stayed there and rented a house (the San Juan water house). It was amazing. We saw all kinds of wildlife and it was during whale season and we sat by the fire pit and whale watched. We rented it with two other couples, though, and it might be a little pricey alone. I attached a pic of our view. If you are going to get a car, I also recommend either doing Vancouver or Olympic National forest. Tons of great hiking, and you can be on the beach one day and in the mountains the next. But, honestly, all options sound fantastic! ![]()

My suggestion is the Rockies in Colorado. In May, there are very few tourists. You would get amazing deals on the best hotels, and even the toniest of restaurants often offer two-for-one deals. The weather can be iffy (it can either be warm or snowing), but there are loads of places to hike, bike, kayak, or whitewater raft. Historically, Colorado has a rich mining history, and you can take tours of old mines or mining towns, drive through historic districts, or stay at a historic B&B. For beautiful vistas, you can drive or hike over dozens of mountain passes, and even stand on the top of the continental divide. As far as mountains go, the Rockies are truly stunning.

Thanks for all the suggestions! If you have anymore, keep 'em coming. Even if we don't get there for our honeymoon, I can always add to my 'where I want to travel' list, which is rapidly growing!

Can I vote for Canada? A friend of mine went to the Canadian alps after her summer wedding and I was SO JEALOUS when I saw her photos. Going somewhere colder when it's all hot in the winter is pretty nifty - I felt so "eh" about our trip to the caribbean because the weather was actually nicer back home!

How about Cape Cod? Or Upstate NY?
