LOL a comment I read: "I think one of my favorite poll numbers was the fact that more people believed that the Obama's had sex on a regular basis...and therefore were more family oriented. Was the poll in Time or Newsweek or Big Juggs? I honestly don't remember." LMAO!

“I look at these people and can't quite believe that they exist. Are they professional actors? I wonder. Or are they simply laymen who want a lot of attention? To put them in perspective, I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. "Can I interest you in the chicken?" she asks. "Or would you prefer the platter of ---- with bits of broken glass in it? To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked." - Author David Sedaris, on undecided voters

"Society can and does execute its own mandates: and if it issues wrong mandates instead of right, or any mandates at all in things with which it ought not to meddle, it practices a social tyranny more formidable than many kinds of political oppression, since, though not usually upheld by such extreme penalties, it leaves fewer means of escape, penetrating much more deeply into the details of life, and enslaving the soul itself. Protection, therefore, against the tyranny of the magistrate is not enough; there needs protection also against the tyranny of the prevailing opinion and feeling, against the tendency of society to impose, by other means than civil penalties, its own ideas and practices as rules of conduct on those who dissent from them." sorry, kinda long...

A different thread reminded me of my favorite liberal of all time, Paul Newman. May he rest in peace. A lot of people -- especially financially successful ones -- don't like to acknowlege the influence of luck in their lives. To some, crediting luck is like discrediting their own diligence and determination. Newman recognized that hard work could only get him so far. The rest was good luck.

The human being who would not harm you on an individual, face-to-face basis, who is charitable, civic-minded, loving and devout, will wound or kill you from behind the corporate veil. ~ Morton Mintz |

Thank you Karl for reminding us who REALLY gave us our rights and freedoms, even when so many are so quick to toss them aside. I find this a bit offensive. Not all of us believe in a higher power. Please do not assume that everyone does, should, or is tossing out gratitude due to one. That doesn't make us the least bit unappreciative of our fortune to live in a country that respects certain rights. Please, let's get back to quotes ![]() I was responding to Storm and I "assumed" nothing. It is "personal" opinion. You may find it "offensive" but it is my opinion... "The choice that year was between Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford. Most of my friends were going for Carter, but, as an art major, I identified myself as a maverick. “That means an original,” I told my roommate. “Someone who lets the chips fall where they may.” Because I made my own rules and didn’t give a damn what anyone else thought of them, I decided to write in the name of Jerry Brown, who, it was rumored, liked to smoke pot. This was an issue very close to my heart—too close, obviously, as it amounted to a complete waste. Still, though, it taught me a valuable lesson: calling yourself a maverick is a sure sign that you’re not one." -David Sedaris link to full article

This all makes me giggle. ![]() And on that note, one of my fave quotes attributed to Jefferson: "Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear." ............... "Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." |

"The Democrats seem to be basically nicer people, but they have demonstrated time and time again that they have the management skills of celery. They're the kind of people who'd stop to help you change a flat, but would somehow manage to set your car on fire. I would be reluctant to entrust them with a Cuisinart, let alone the economy. The Republicans, on the other hand, would know how to fix your tire, but they wouldn't bother to stop because they'd want to be on time for Ugly Pants Night at the country club." ~ Dave Barry Dave Barry: always something for everyone....
