So FI and I got engaged back in August and we still haven't set the date or found our venue. We've looked at a number of places and are actually going to look at another place tonight and another one on Thursday, but it's beginning to make me crazy! We are having trouble finding a location that we love while still keeping it within budget. Everyone keeps asking "Oooh have you set a date yet?!?!?" and it's kinda a bummer having to say no. Also, it doesn't really feel real since I have NO idea when we'll be getting married. Plus we can't really move forward with any of the planning until we have our date and location. Ahhh! I'm crossing my fingers that we like the place tonight because it's within budget and literally like 2 minutes from our house. Bah! Anyway, just felt like venting...

Just so I don't feel like a weirdo, how long did you ladies wait between getting engaged and setting a date?

I'm a married woman!!!

oh, this'll make you feel better:

I got engaged in April, and we only just recently decided on 11/20/09!  (we haven't actually put the money down yet because I'm scared to commit, especially in this economy--who knows if the venue will even exist a year from now!!!!)

We got engaged last March, and set the date in July, I think. However, part of the delay is that FI felt strongly that we should go through premarital education before announcing our engagement. So that took up until the end of May.

We got engaged last December - set a date and started looking at venues.

Then we decided to just go ahead and buy a house!

No date set yet, though we're thinking late summer/early fall of '09.  Gotta save up our mortgage cushion first!

ETA: I get bugged a lot about setting a date though.  We'll be reserving our venue and setting a firm date in the next couple of months.  Then I can finally get my mom off my back about that!

I just posted a thread about this over the weekend. I got engaged in May and we have NO idea on a date. We were thinking next August because I am medical student and only get 2 weeks off - but those 2 weeks just so happen to coincide with my little brother leaving for college and moving out of state. It's a big deal because he's the baby of the family, so my parents, of course, will be taking him and staying for the week.

I am with you though. It sucks when someone asks when you're planning to tie the knot and you have to say "NO CLUE!"

Glad to see there are a few of us in the same boat!

Don't you just sometimes feel like making up a date just so it's a simple answer? I guess then you would get hounded with questions about the venue and the colors...

I completely  understand. We recently moved across the country and are staying with parents until we find the *perfect* house. Our date is postponed indefinetly because we don't want to get married and come home to the back room at his parents house. The ring is the only thing that actually feels real.

I was stressed about this last week and I will pass along some great advice I got from marchswallowbird and Octavia--just give as much of a time frame as you can. I have been saying "sometime next school year" and that has been plenty good enough for everyone. But, I know what you are saying, because it doesn't feel 'real' without the date. It at least makes me feel better to know that the rest of you are struggling with this, too.

Let's see, I got engaged in March, and didn't set a date until mid last month. It's fine if you don't have a date, but you probably have some idea of the times it works best for you. E.g. I have Spring Break on these dates, I've always wanted a winter wedding, etc. You can stay vague about it so people are sorta answered.

"There's nothing set yet, but we're hoping for next fall." "We're trying to work around my school schedule, so it'll probably in the summer."

Well, we just our out calendar for next year. It's not too promising for a date, but we DO have 2 three day weekends that I have my eye on. I am a little nervous about trying to have a wedding 600 miles away from me over a 3 day weekend, but I suppose I could always just consider having it here and having family come to ME instead.

So, here is the deal. We have 3 days (Sat/Sun/Mon) off for Memorial Day in May, so we could do a Sunday afternoon wedding. We also have 3 days (Fri/Sat/Sun) off for 4th of July, so we could do a Saturday wedding. I guess I also can't rule out Labor day (Sat/Sun/Mon off) and do a Sunday wedding.

I don't know how my parents will feel about trying to make this work, but I'll keep you all posted. With the 1st 2 dates, we could use my 2 weeks off in August (which will not work for a wedding due to the aforementioned) to have our honeymoon!

Anyone heard of or planning a 3-day-weekend wedding like this?
